The Royal Thai is located on the main street in the middle of Old Stratford with no dedicated parking, but you can usually manage to park outside on the street.
On arriving we received a bowl of spicy crackers and sweet chilli dip. There is a good value special set lunch menu, but we went for an evening meal and had one of the set menus for around £23 per head. For this we got a mixed starter platter with crispy wanton, chicken satay, ribs, spring roll, prawn in filo pastry and a couple of dipping sauces; this was followed by a bowl of soup which contained mushrooms and prawns. For the main we got a bowl of egg fried special rice, prawns in with an egg basket and noodles; beef in a spicy sauce with green beans; Thai red curry with duck; broccoli with oyster sauce; sweet and sour chicken in a filo pastry basket. For pudding there was a banana fritter wrapped in filo pastry, ice cream and a toffee sauce; coffee is also included.
All the food was good or very good. The service was reasonably quick and polite. It is a small restaurant with about a dozen tables or so. It can get fairly busy, but you don't usually need to book.
This was our first time, but we will be back: the place lacks a little in style and atmosphere, but still highly recommended. read more
