UPDATE: Management has reached out and taken 100% accountability for the clerical error. The owner…read morehas promised to replace the gate with the correct lattice style and extend our warranty. I am temporarily updating this review to show they are working to resolve the issue. Once the correct gate is fully installed, this review will be removed completely. Unprofessional Bait-and-Switch - Using Their Contract Typos to Shortchange Customers Beware of Continental Home Group if you value honesty. Back on April 30th, we negotiated a fence project and explicitly requested a price match based on a competitor's quote that included '1 lattice gate.' The sales representative, Joe, confirmed in writing via text that the owner approved adding the lattice upgrade for free to match the deal and secure our business at a final price of $5,595. We paid them 100% in full and in good faith. However, the company committed a clerical error on the final paperwork they drafted by omitting the word 'lattice' on the line item. They then installed a plain, standard gate. When we immediately pointed out the error upon completion, they tried to gaslight us. First, the sales rep tried to claim a lattice gate was 'never discussed' (completely contradicting his own text messages). We very clearly stated a competitor (Modern Fencing) offered a lower price with the lattice gate included. The very definition of price matching is giving a better price for the same exact offer, so how did we end up not getting it in the price matched offer by CHG? Then, they tried to blame us for not acting as their job-site construction supervisors to stop the crew mid-installation. I notified Joe immediately after the crew left that same day that the gate was incorrect. He blamed me for not speaking up after it was already installed, even though the labor and material costs to swap it out would be the same regardless. Finally, they demanded an extra extortion fee of $500, or told us we had to 'buy a whole new project' just to get the gate we already paid for. Highway robbery to charge that much just to replace a gate. Using your own corporate typographical error to hold a fully paid customer's gate hostage for more cash is a completely unethical, bad-faith business practice. I am currently filing a formal consumer fraud complaint with the New Jersey Division of Consumer Affairs and initiating a small claims lawsuit in the Middlesex County Special Civil Part to recover the cost of hiring a reputable company to fix their mistake. Check every single syllable of their paperwork, because they will aggressively exploit their own mistakes to avoid honoring their written text commitments. This is not how you treat a paying customer. I regret not staying with Modern Fencing. Not only were they cheaper, we would have gotten exactly what we asked for. Instead we got bait and switched by Continental Home Group.

I strongly do not recommend this company. Go local. The project started off seeming smooth enough. You do a video call where they draw up the fence live on screen and you can customize style, spacing, type, etc. That was probably the only convenient part of this entire process. The issue is that every single revision after that becomes a massive headache and takes forever. The first red flag was permits. I asked if I needed one and was told no. I am an Architect and knew immediately that was wrong. I had to send them screenshots of my township requirements for them to realize their mistake. Then they said they could submit for permit, only to come back weeks later and say I needed a survey first -- information they should have told me from day one. Because of that delay, I got stuck waiting through weeks of snow before I could even move forward. Once the survey was done, they claimed they would submit the permit ASAP. Days would go by with no responses. Meanwhile my assigned project manager changed THREE times, so I never even knew who I was supposed to be contacting. Then I found out the permit they supposedly submitted had no payment sent with it. Nearly a month later I was still being told it was "processing." At that point I contacted my township directly because this was starting to feel like a scam. They informed me the permit was filed incorrectly, payment had not been received, and they had emailed Ergeon weeks earlier with corrections that Ergeon never responded to. From there, I spent weeks trying to get ahold of an actual manager. Every phone call involved 45 minute holds just to be told no one was available or I'd be put on a callback list that never resulted in a callback. I eventually worked directly with my township to figure out the actual requirements, which meant revising the plans. On top of that, Ergeon incorrectly told me my fence had to be 4' high, while my township told me there was no issue with a 6' privacy fence. So they were not only delaying me, they were giving me completely false information that would have left me paying for something I didn't even want. Then came hours of me marking up PDFs, color coding revisions, and practically spoon-feeding their permitting team how to edit their own drawings because they kept getting it wrong. I became the unpaid project manager on my own job. The best part? After months of them failing to get a permit approved, I sent my township the same marked up PDF I had already sent Ergeon, and my permit was approved in under ONE HOUR. Finally installation day came. The local contractors themselves were kind and respectful. No complaints there. But while they were actively demolishing my existing fence, I received a text message with a $650 change order because site measurements differed from the contract. Measurements that should have been verified BEFORE construction ever started. So after months of incompetence, they tried charging me more money because they failed to do a pre-site verification. I called my PM -- no answer. Called customer service -- another 45 minute hold and another promised callback that never came. While my fence was literally torn apart. I finally got a manager on the phone after demanding one, and even he admitted the project was handled horribly. They waived the $650 change order and removed the permit fee since I ended up obtaining the permit myself. What is truly insane is that after FOUR MONTHS of delays, misinformation, zero communication, hours of my unpaid labor, and an absurd amount of stress, they still offered no discount or real apology. This company is a middleman that hires local installers while being completely incapable of managing the project. Communication is terrible, permitting is incompetent, and customer service is nonexistent. DO NOT USE THEM. Shop local and save yourself the nightmare.
