The culprits were the thermostats which both decided to die together. He even fixed my stove gas burner in 30 seconds as he was leaving! While cleaning the furnace they said they had to replace the furnace igniter and flame sensor. For the furnace ignitor they charged $349 and the flame sensor $189. On line you can see a furnace ignitor is $85 and the flame sensor is $13. So, I was charged $538 for parts valued at about $100 plus the furnace cleaning! When I complained about the high costs they gave me $100 back. I asked that they refund another $100 but they would not. My furnace was running fine before they worked on it and is working just the same now. So, it is hard to judge the quality of their work. I know they ripped me off with way too high prices for the parts. So, I would say this company has very poor ethics, don't let them into your home. They are just looking to take advantage of their customers, especially unsuspecting seniors.

Theo was the technician the first visit, and Sia did the recent call, both provided top shelf service. I found them to be on time, accurate, very fair price wise and ultimately highly trustworthy, along with being good people. They won't sell you something you don't need, but also won't just band aid a solution. They will recommend what is necessary to do now with an eye down the road as to what will be your best choice long term. In our case, they could have replaced the blower and other parts on the old furnace for about half the price of a new one (which comes with a 10 year warranty), so the decision was easy to replace the entire unit. Expensive now but don't have to worry about again. Cannot recommend these gentleman and this company enough!

Various solutions were attempted including replacing the remote. Nothing solved my problem. It didn't help my credibility that everything worked whenever the Vaglio people visited. Fortunately for me, Vaglio took me seriously. After trying everything else, they changed the type of remote control I had. Since then, all has worked perfectly. :-) The best explanation of my problem is that there is probably some intermittent radio signal that interfered with my original remote and that operated mostly out of business hours. The new remote uses a different system and thus manages to get through. Through all this the Vaglio people continued to work with me. I really want to thank Jeff F, Angus, and everyone else involved for their perseverance. It would have been very easy for them to just label me as a "problem customer". We selected the Valor insert model that we wanted, and when we received the cost estimate, we gave the go ahead thinking that the overly high installation cost would be reduced once the installers completed the install. Such was not the case. Everything was cleared and wide open, ready to go. The two installers were at our place for 1 hour 40 minutes, and the installation fee was $1350. We were then told that the charge is the same whether the installers were on site for 1 hour or 8 hours. That's outrageous. Had I known, I would have let them tear the drywall out and remove the existing framing.

One does NOT go with the bargain basement lowest priced contractor or company. One does NOT try to do this oneself. One does one's research and goes to a reputable place that is knowledgable, professional, been around a while, has a great reputation, has licensed and bonded professionals, has ample products to choose from, offers a guarantee of their products and service, and has a portfolio and/or references. Vancouver Gas Fireplaces (VGF) is such a company. The gas fireplace in my Yaletown condo never worked well since I moved here, and it ceased working altogether a few years ago. I decided this was the year to get a new and improved model. A few neighbors in my building have done extensive renovations in their units in the past few years, and they all got their fireplaces from VGF. And they all spoke highly of them. When I called the company, I got connected to Martes who was fantastic. I booked an appointment with her to check out all the fireplace models. I was impressed with the showroom, so I was able to see all the different models, and Martes was able to direct me to those models that would fit in my existing condo space and utilize the same venting pipes. (I wanted to minimize the construction, and get my strata's approval for the project without any issues). Martes was super familiar with the models in question and she totally understood what features and aesthetic I was going for. What was extra cool was the fact that I was able to choose any type of hearth and/or mantle I wanted, and any kind of wall treatment, too. I hadn't anticipated being able to re-do the wall the fireplace was on! I like clean and uncluttered styles, so I opted to have my existing hearth pained a glossy black, and to have a mantle made (I always wanted a mantle!), simple and deep, also glossy black. And the wall to remain the same white. The project involved 4 or 5 visits: once, by the installers; the other times, by Vlad, the construction guy. And all I can say is, wow. I've never had a more professional or courteous crew of workers here, ever. From the care in which they took down my tv and sound bar and later re-installed it (even better, without all the pesky wires exposed, as they had been before!), and did all the work so efficiently, in such an organized and co-ordinated manner, as quietly as possible, and so cleanly. Vlad was meticulous, how he daily laid out a huge cover on top of my carpet, so as not to dirty it at all, and he vacuumed at least twice each time he came (and, yes, he came with his own vacuum! I swear, my place was cleaner after Vlad let than before, every time! He was amazing). And I'm attaching photos of my new fireplace wall, with a fabulous, heat-producing fireplace (I also got a special vent installed on top of my tv, to better direct heat below AND above the tv), and my new hearth and new mantle! Vlad did a fantastic job. Shout-outs also go out to Samantha who visited after the project was completed, to adjust some settings on my fireplace remote and for a quick tutorial on how to actually use the fireplace remote.
