I'm starting to wonder whether if a pub has the name 'The Royal Oak' then it might be an idea to walk straight past it and look for another place to have a beer. Actually, come to think of it, I've been to six that happen to carry that name, and of the six three of them are pretty nice, and the other three are basically forgettable, which suggests that a 50% hit rate isn't that bad - you basically have 50% chance of walking into a Royal Oak and it either being really good, or really bad. Anyway, that is beside the point because this Royal Oak falls into the 50% really bad category. Basically it is a typical pub with a pokies room and sports bar, and the restaurant that you have to sign into at actually have a meal - I seen this with places like the Celtic Club, but it still baffles me somewhat here. Anyway, I've actually been here four times, which goes to show how forgettable this place is because everytime I walk past it I walk in, thinking it a pub I hadn't been to before, looking around, and suddenly realising - right, this place! read more
