I found a ring there that I wanted, and she was the one who helped me. The prices on guns are very competitive, and they also offer a price match or beat the price on select guns. Being from North County, I never knew about this hidden little gem until meeting a gentleman here today for a firearms transfer. I was greeted by Virgil who was very cordial and professional and was also waited on by Matt. The transaction was quick, but also very professionally handled. They go the extra step to make sure everything is done correctly which adds to the convenience to the customer. I really wanted to like this place since a good friend recommended them and they are VERY knowledgeable about firearms, but they sold me a used rifle that didn't even work after they wouldn't budge on a rather high price, they refused to do a private party transfer because they were busy (I offered to leave my number and arrange to come in anytime they weren't busy), and they tried to charge me 29 cents a round for 22lr ammo (Even during these COVID times, Big 5 and Turner's had it for about 8-9 cents a round). They complain about government regulation, but then they proceed to be everything that causes people to demand government regulation! My buddy who recommended them had such great things to say, but I have had nothing but bad luck with them. read more

Purchased a brand new Sig from this place earlier this year. Sorry for just now getting around to writing this review, better late than never. I wandered in to this pawn/gun shop randomly one afternoon. Mostly with the interest of looking at guns as I was close to ready to make a purchase but also because I had never stepped foot inside a pawn shop before. The staff was friendly from the get go. They treated me with respect, educated me on a few things I had questions regarding, and provided overall excellent customer service. I had known for a while what gun I wanted just was not sure which version would be perfect for me. I went in armed with questions and walked out with a receipt for the Sig I had just purchased and was waiting to be delivered. Not once did I feel pressured to buy anything, the staff was very nice in answering all my questions, making sure I got the best deal, and making sure it was one I was going to be satisfied with. Less than two weeks later (thanks to California 10 day waiting period laws), I was back in the shop to pick up my new semi automatic. They made the process easy. It has since been months and I love my handgun and know when I am ready to purchase another, new or used, it will be from Royal Loan. Went in today to see about a loan using a gold ring as collateral. The gentleman I spoke with was extremely attentive, wasted no time in finding out what I needed in terms of loan amount, and immediately proceeded to verify that the ring was indeed made of gold. Within 5 minutes, the staff had confirmed that the ring was indeed 18K gold. I proceeded to sign and initial a single form, gave my thumbprint a couple of times, and that was it! My friend went here to buy bullets, and they had exactly what he needed, it was a smooth cash transaction. This place was recommended as a good place to buy ammo from another friend of ours, who goes there regularly to purchase guns and ammo. Years ago, I went there to pawn a watch and the owner would not accept it, and I wondered if it was because of race issues. I know that in the pawn industry, there is a lot of racial stereotyping that goes on- some people more likely to have counterfeit goods, some people more likely to have stolen goods, etc. But I did not take it personally because the owner was professional about it. And the long haired dude was really courteous. I think its cool that this place exists, with the guns displayed on the wall, the bulletproof glass, and how the employees carry guns. My husband and I had been looking to purchase a couple of guns and our searching brought us here. While they didn't end up having the gun we wanted, the employees were so helpful and not at all condescending or impatient with a couple of newbies looking to buy a gun. In particular, the dark-haired young guy with the glasses (Did he have glasses? Now I'm questioning it.) was amazingly helpful and spent a lot of time answering our questions and recommending good guns for the type of shooting we wanted to do. He also introduced me to my dream gun: the Henry Golden Boy. Their prices are a bit higher than Turner's during their spring sale, so that's the only reason we decided to get our guns elsewhere. When we're in the market for guns again we'll come right back to Royal Loan. If you're just starting to get interested in shooting and have been intimidated by the gun enthusiasts at some other gun shops, come here and ask as many questions as you want. You won't be judged. I have been to every gun shop in SD County literally and not all but 97% are terrible experiences for new and experienced gun owners alike, not so here at Royal Pawn. You wouldn't know you were speaking to the owner "Ken" unless you asked! He's that down to earth. Also I've been able to buy things that would normally be out of budget they have a 3 month layaway plan that really comes in handy when your on a budget and will only settle for the best. Very knowledgeable and friendly staff. They always have an interesting selection of firearms, new, used, and consignment sales. I have bought several handguns and a few knives, and have never been disappointed. My only criticism is that they take a strict view of California's "approved" handgun list, and although the law does not state that "unapproved" guns can be re-sold to ordinary folks (i.e. who are not police officers), Royal maintains those in a separate case and won't sell them to California residents (other than police.) They even told me that they have sold such guns to people in other states! I (and some other pawn shops and gun stores) disagree with their interpretation of the law, because A) The law allows people to import "unapproved" guns from other states when they move to California and B) It doesn't explicitly say those can't be re-sold to non-police; it only says that dealers can't sell them to non-police. (When you do a Private-Party Transfer the dealer only acts as a transfer agent who performs the background check and does the paperwork, all for a fee.) I can forgive Royal for covering their butts, and I plan to go there again many times! read more

I went in recently to get my handgun safety permit and browse their handguns. This is the first handgun place I visited that understands the business concept of "customer service". I felt welcome and while I was rusty with handguns; they were patient and helpful with showing me different models and features of the guns I was interested in buying. Seriously, I'd pay a little bit more of a gun here because I know if I had a question down the road; I'd actually get some help. I am not done with my search for the right handgun but when I get to that point Royal Loan is the one to beat for my business.
