These are some good people, very knowledgeable with guns, knives, gold odities, jewlery and much more. If you love good prices and lots to choose from - guitars, musical instruments, e bikes and bikes, tools, collectibles, knives and swords / all kinds of guns that change frequently - if you need home defense, tactical, hunting or sporting, check them out read more

I love love this place!! This is the go-to place for purchasing guns and supplies. I had Talana Palmer help me when I went with my husband to pick his guns out. I found a ring there that I wanted, and she was the one who helped me. The prices on guns are very competitive, and they also offer a price match or beat the price on select guns. Matthew Bartel was the one who helped my husband with his gun list. He beat the price that he had on the list. Also, he knows his guns. Everyone in the shop is amazing and very nice to purchase items from, and if you are not knowledgeable about the guns you are purchasing, they know everything! I love this place and the people who work there. If you are looking for anything at all, they most likely will have it. Check them out, you will not regret it. They are amazing! Thanks again, guys, for all your help to me and my husband Gerald really appreciates you !! See you next time! Rosalind Johnson & Gerald Johnson read more

Talana was absolutely amazing!!! My husband and I went in for a loan and to look at possibly purchasing a fire arm. Talana was so knowledgeable about all the firearms. She was willing to take all the time we needed to make sure we were comfortable giving Royal Loan our business. 10/10 recommend going to Talana. read more

Best place to buy your firearms/guns. Im new to the firearms world, Matthew & Matt were a big help. They have a lot of knowledge about firearms, they taught me a lot about each one. I had a lot of questions and they answered them all. Really cool guys here , I recommend coming here! They have lots of guns at a good prices. read more

I've been going to Royal Loan for over 20 years now and I can say with out a doubt it's my single favorite business in San Diego. Not only do they stock things that encompass all of my hobbies, they also are a valuable resource for unique gifts for everyone. A family business that treats everyone like family. It gets no better. Keep up the amazing work. read more

Being from North County, I never knew about this hidden little gem until meeting a gentleman here today for a firearms transfer. I was greeted by Virgil who was very cordial and professional and was also waited on by Matt. The transaction was quick, but also very professionally handled. They go the extra step to make sure everything is done correctly which adds to the convenience to the customer. Very clean store with a great selection of firearms and ammunition especially if you're looking for something on the surplus or C&R side of the hobby. I plan on bringing a few of my surplus rifles I no longer shoot back down here tomorrow for them to check out! read more

Used to come here from time to time just to see what they have. The prices aren't always the best but they always have a wide variety of guns and for the people that can't buy it up from they have well used to have a 90 day layaways. Not too sure if they still do have that. Plus the fellas here were very knowledgeable on everything they had. So take a look I know I'll be back before the year is up. Hopefully lol read more

Love this place. Ken the owner and his crew will help you with anything. I have been going there for years. And will continue.

This review is long overdue so shame on me, the employees that I know are always friendly, helpful and down to earth. A lot of people coming here looking for Guns but they do have movies, gold and music instruments. If you're looking for guns and great prices this is the place to be. I love how you can make payments for about 3months . At some places you have one month to pay in full & pick up your gun. I can't believe how friendly the staff is they will speak to you for a while about the gun you want. You can tell these guys are really passionate about guns. read more

Always like this place for the last 25 years , today I brought my cousins who they were looking to buy their first gun , after they chose the gun we ask questions about the law and how to purchase she's lesbian not that they're is nothing wrong right , well they never explain few things , so one of them diside she was going to be the one , to purchase the gun , the salesperson never did he say not to be near the booth where they make you take a test , so she when Over the counter and last minute decide that the wife had all the proper paper work , instead of her partner they ask to switch , that when it got crazy , they technically got kick out saying that they where trying to do a straw purchase , and they ask her to get out , to be honest , I think they against gays and lesbians , and they loss a $800 sale , I guess they don't need the business never coming back to this place after 25 years of me shopping here , no longer recommend this place ,rude place , cero Profecional excuse of why , they straight kick us out Replying to owner : Maybe a well educated way to explaining why , we can do a business at the time , instead of a rude way to kicking US out would off work , your son and the guy with the long hair as 0 customer service read more

Purchased a brand new Sig from this place earlier this year. Sorry for just now getting around to writing this review, better late than never. I wandered in to this pawn/gun shop randomly one afternoon. Mostly with the interest of looking at guns as I was close to ready to make a purchase but also because I had never stepped foot inside a pawn shop before. The staff was friendly from the get go. They treated me with respect, educated me on a few things I had questions regarding, and provided overall excellent customer service. I had known for a while what gun I wanted just was not sure which version would be perfect for me. I went in armed with questions and walked out with a receipt for the Sig I had just purchased and was waiting to be delivered. Not once did I feel pressured to buy anything, the staff was very nice in answering all my questions, making sure I got the best deal, and making sure it was one I was going to be satisfied with. Less than two weeks later (thanks to California 10 day waiting period laws), I was back in the shop to pick up my new semi automatic. They made the process easy. It has since been months and I love my handgun and know when I am ready to purchase another, new or used, it will be from Royal Loan. In addition to gun sales, there are accessories for the guns (no ammo though), jewelry, and a few other knick-knacks. read more

This is the place to buy guns, jewelry and other items, I purchase guns frequently here and I have to say these guys are great with the best prices in San Diego, the customer service is not 5 stars it's actually 10 stars. Thank you Royal Pawn for always making me feel like family when I stop by. And to everyone reading this post just stop by and see for yourself what im talking about. read more

I really wanted to like this place since a good friend recommended them and they are VERY knowledgeable about firearms, but they sold me a used rifle that didn't even work after they wouldn't budge on a rather high price, they refused to do a private party transfer because they were busy (I offered to leave my number and arrange to come in anytime they weren't busy), and they tried to charge me 29 cents a round for 22lr ammo (Even during these COVID times, Big 5 and Turner's had it for about 8-9 cents a round). They complain about government regulation, but then they proceed to be everything that causes people to demand government regulation! My buddy who recommended them had such great things to say, but I have had nothing but bad luck with them. read more

Let's start off by saying the guys who work at this shop are pretty rad and know there shit when it comes to guns...The sad part is they decided to take advantage of the Covid pandemic and hike up the prices 799$ for a glock you have to be kidding me. read more

I purchased a firearm at royal and they are very professional and helpful and updated me on certain laws they rock the will see more business from me I love em read more

Always treated fairly and friendly every time I come in. They are also straight up with you and don't make you feel like your items are worth nothing... unless yours are. They know a lot about what is going on in the firearm world I usually learn something new each time I'm in. Their loan services are quick and easy too and also straight forward with three month grace period with out a huge security payment at the end. Will be a returning customer as long as I stay in San Diego. It is my go to pawn and loan shop. read more

Had an excellent experience purchasing handgun from Royal Loan! The layaway plan can't be beat. Most gun stores I've been to you have to wait in line just to ask to see a firearm. This is the first place where the staff asked me more than one if there was something I wanted to look at. The staff I dealt with were friendly and very helpful and I plan on doing more business with them in the future! read more

Nice shop. Excellent selection of firearms and highly knowledgeable staff. Patient and professional staff.

Went in to pawn a used m&p shield hi viz like new condition and was offered 175 and he wouldn't even negotiate. Obviously this is far below market I was able to sell the firearm to a private party for $400 the same day and did the transfer at a more reputable lgs. Would not recommend selling here if you want a fair offer. they seem like low ball artist ripping people off read more

Nice store with friendly, knowledgeable staff. Nice variety of new and used guns. This was my first purchase of a handgun, and they were patient and showed me several options and were happy to discuss the various options and showed me how to check it out myself to make sure I was comfortable with it. The process is somewhat complicated but I had already done some research and was prepared to take the required Gun Safety test and all went smoothly. I am very happy with my purchase, the price was very reasonable, and the guys there were great. I would highly recommend. read more

Went in today to see about a loan using a gold ring as collateral. The gentleman I spoke with was extremely attentive, wasted no time in finding out what I needed in terms of loan amount, and immediately proceeded to verify that the ring was indeed made of gold. Within 5 minutes, the staff had confirmed that the ring was indeed 18K gold. I proceeded to sign and initial a single form, gave my thumbprint a couple of times, and that was it! Super painless - these guys made me feel totally confident that my item will be well taken care of until I come to pick it up. Highly recommended! read more

Bad business horrible offers their guns are really cheap and they don't do a good job sourcing their products I'd go to any other gun store in city read more

I was excited to go here to sell some things of mine after reading the reviews here, until I started talking the the young kid behind the counter. He didn't really know much and offered me $35 for a ring that was purchased at $800. The kid wasn't rude or anything, but it didn't feel professional either. Truly this place specializes in guns. Don't go here unless that is what you are looking to sell or purchase. read more

My husband and I had been looking to purchase a couple of guns and our searching brought us here. While they didn't end up having the gun we wanted, the employees were so helpful and not at all condescending or impatient with a couple of newbies looking to buy a gun. In particular, the dark-haired young guy with the glasses (Did he have glasses? Now I'm questioning it.) was amazingly helpful and spent a lot of time answering our questions and recommending good guns for the type of shooting we wanted to do. He also introduced me to my dream gun: the Henry Golden Boy. Their prices are a bit higher than Turner's during their spring sale, so that's the only reason we decided to get our guns elsewhere. When we're in the market for guns again we'll come right back to Royal Loan. If you're just starting to get interested in shooting and have been intimidated by the gun enthusiasts at some other gun shops, come here and ask as many questions as you want. You won't be judged. They also have a nice 10% (I believe) down layaway plan. Turner's is 30%. read more

Great pawnshop, Ken, Matt and everyone that work there at the store and are very professional and polite. I've always had a great experience whenever I have shopped there all the products are reasonably price they have a great selection of everything from jewelry to TVs to firearms to guitars. I have never been disappointed when I have shopped there I have always been treated like family when I come in the store it is a great experience you could not ask for a better pawn shop to go to and spend my money. read more

My friend went here to buy bullets, and they had exactly what he needed, it was a smooth cash transaction. This place was recommended as a good place to buy ammo from another friend of ours, who goes there regularly to purchase guns and ammo. Years ago, I went there to pawn a watch and the owner would not accept it, and I wondered if it was because of race issues. I know that in the pawn industry, there is a lot of racial stereotyping that goes on- some people more likely to have counterfeit goods, some people more likely to have stolen goods, etc. But I did not take it personally because the owner was professional about it. And the long haired dude was really courteous. I think its cool that this place exists, with the guns displayed on the wall, the bulletproof glass, and how the employees carry guns. Great place to buy ammo. read more

First time I wandered into Royal Loan was because my roommate was trying to pawn a few belongings. First time into a pawn shop, I was surprised to see firearms all over the wall on the right side. Anyways that is the history, onto the review. This is a firearms review. Pro's - This place actually had some guns that I haven't seen local (Kel-tec Sub2000) - They will take 5% off if you pay in cash - Actually has some crazy inventory of gun's you might not normally see at a gun store - Staff was actually very friendly. Con's. - I knocked off a star just based off some of the prices I've seen here. The markup on some of the firearms was a little bit ridiculous. read more

My car recently broke down and I needed cash, so after looking at several business, I chose Royal Loan based on the reviews I read. I can say that I made the right choice. Ken was the one who helped me and was Great and very friendly. Unfortunatley, I had to part with some of my guns and had an idea what to expect for them. The experience was very smooth and hassle free. I got a very fair offer for my guns and was very impressed by the service they gave me. I highly recommend this business as the staff was very professional and knowledgeable. Thank you Ken and Ed for great service. Felipe A. read more

I'm going to start off by saying the customer service is unbelievable, Matt is by far one of the most knowledgeable Gun aficionados I have ever met and I've been shooting since I was 5. I have been to every gun shop in SD County literally and not all but 97% are terrible experiences for new and experienced gun owners alike, not so here at Royal Pawn. You wouldn't know you were speaking to the owner "Ken" unless you asked! He's that down to earth. Also I've been able to buy things that would normally be out of budget they have a 3 month layaway plan that really comes in handy when your on a budget and will only settle for the best. So because of the Customer Service, good prices, new and used Guns plus an available layaway plan I'm giving Royal 5 stars. read more

Came in with my 51-30 gold plated Nixon watch to pawn it not selling it, but with one look and one small scratch in the back where no one can see it they Refused it right away in like 30 seconds. I was told the owner wants it brand-new conditions. Brand new condition to me that was funny, don't remember the last time i bought something that was really nice and brand-new condition at a pawnshop. Apparently that Doesn't apply with there guns selection I saw some that look really old and really used. read more

Only place I know that lets you Layaway Firearms for 90 days. Great customer service! read more

I'm completely impressed with this place. After a few check-ins I bought a brand new gun after 22 years and with all the law changes they explained everything to me, making it an easy transaction. This place it tops in my book. read more

I went in recently to get my handgun safety permit and browse their handguns. This is the first handgun place I visited that understands the business concept of "customer service". I felt welcome and while I was rusty with handguns; they were patient and helpful with showing me different models and features of the guns I was interested in buying. Seriously, I'd pay a little bit more of a gun here because I know if I had a question down the road; I'd actually get some help. I am not done with my search for the right handgun but when I get to that point Royal Loan is the one to beat for my business. And note to other gun shops, being a jerk to customers doesn't make you cool; it makes you a bad businessman. read more

Great Helpful staff! I purchased and registered a firearm thru this place several years back. I needed to recently obtain paperwork regarding the registration that was over 4 years old. Both the manager and the employee I talked with were very prompt and helpful. I will be buying from them again in the future. read more

Incredibly nice group of people that have the answers to every question and are beyond helpful to those of us who know nothing about the gun purchasing/owning process. I wasn't feeling well so they even ran out to a nearby store to pick me up something while I was filling out forms, etc!!! Can't say enough good things about my experience here. read more

Royal Loan is hands down the best pawn shop in San Diego. Their staff treats you like a friend not just a customer. Ed and the staff on duty helped me with my firearm in an honest manner never making me feel like I was being taken advantage of. Due to their straight up way of doing business I would highly recommend them to anyone. A+ read more

Very knowledgeable and friendly staff. They always have an interesting selection of firearms, new, used, and consignment sales. I have bought several handguns and a few knives, and have never been disappointed. My only criticism is that they take a strict view of California's "approved" handgun list, and although the law does not state that "unapproved" guns can be re-sold to ordinary folks (i.e. who are not police officers), Royal maintains those in a separate case and won't sell them to California residents (other than police.) They even told me that they have sold such guns to people in other states! I (and some other pawn shops and gun stores) disagree with their interpretation of the law, because A) The law allows people to import "unapproved" guns from other states when they move to California and B) It doesn't explicitly say those can't be re-sold to non-police; it only says that dealers can't sell them to non-police. (When you do a Private-Party Transfer the dealer only acts as a transfer agent who performs the background check and does the paperwork, all for a fee.) I can forgive Royal for covering their butts, and I plan to go there again many times! read more
