I was a little nervous as this was my first time at this place and it didn't look particularly fancy or all that "royal." It was a little difficult to get into the parking lot as well and required a U turn down the street. Although I was a walk in, they got me in the barber's chair in less than 20 minutes on the day after Christmas. I only required a fade on the sides and the guy did an excellent job. I was impressed by his attention to detail. He did the fade, trimmed up some stray hairs on top, cleaned my eyebrows up, and shaved the back of my neck with a straight razor and warm shaving cream. I was in and out in less than an hour. Overall, I had a great experience and I would definitely come back. For a $20 haircut, this place can't be beat! read more

I have been going to RB for around 4 years, Craig(4th generation barber ) has always done a superb job and takes dutiful pride in his work. Multiple times, after a fresh fade, I have been stopped on the street and complimented on my cut followed by questions of who my barber is. The banter in the shop is a mix of witty one-liners and a catalog of life lessons. This place is great ! we need more spots like these around... and the price is very reasonable. I'll get a hack job at great Clips for about the same price and these guys take pride in their work. A hair cut here will take 20 mins or so because they take their time and do it right. Takes other chain places 5mins and left with uneven spots I'll notice after I take a shower. They vacuum your hair and shave your neck and around the ears with a straight razor, who does that?!? They will even do a whole shave the old fashion way, this is an experience and money well spent. I almost hate giving them a 5 star review because I'm selfish and don't want any more people to find out about this place, but they deserve it. Wait times can be long if you don't make an appointment. read more

Sorry, but I couldn't give them more then 1 star! I had read about them on yelp and thought I would give them a try. But never again. There was a older man there named Tim, I think he said he was the owner who was walking around outside and he told me to go on in and someone would help me so I did and I got right in but I was there for almost an hour in the chair only to get a haircut worst then the one I had got at great clips which only took 15 minutes...I was very disappointed and I won't be going back there. I don't know how they got all the 5 star reviews unless they did the reviews their self...I hope this helps, at least its a REAL REVIEW. read more

Best barber in Cincy. I tried 8 places before I found Royal up in Kenwood. I never wait long and the cut is always great. Ask for Craig, he'll take very good care of you. A cut includes a hot shave of the sideburns and back of the neck. Cost is only $14. The place is clean and there's plenty of parking! read more

I've been going to the same barber for about 40 years, so when I went to his shop last week and found a sign on the door saying it was closed for good--I'm guessing they lost their lease--I was really bummed. Finding a good barber may not seem like a big deal, but it is. And trying a new one is a little like going on a blind date: the odds are slim it's going to be great, and if it's bad, it could be REALLY bad. But after reading the reviews here, I decided to give Royal a try. I happened to get Ron--he had an empty chair when I walked in--and my experience was like those described below. He gave me a great haircut, I enjoyed talking with him, and it didn't take a lot of time. What especially impressed me was the care Ron took. He obviously takes pride in his work, and I felt as though I was in the hands of a professional. They finish you off with a straight-razor cut, talc, and a vacuum suction to get all the pesky remnants of stray hair. I only wish I would have found this place sooner. read more

I found this place on Yelp after bouncing around to a couple of "Great Clips" types of places after job change brought me to a new neighborhood. I called in advance to confirm a time that would result in the least wait--not sure if this was technically an appointment, or just a good recommended time--but I walked in the front door and sat down in the chair. I received a great haircut from Ron--nothing fancy, just a standard "corporate cut--finished off with a shave of neck and sideburns. The haircut was carefully done, which is more than I can say for some of the places I have been. Finally, the conversation was relevant and enjoyable, covering the Reds, downtown development and the streetcar project. I had forgotten the positive aspects of going to a real barbershop, and am glad I found one. read more

Best haircut I have ever had. Went here because I got a terrible cut at great clips in Loveland! The guy who cut my hair simple looked at the mess great clips had made and said we will fix it. The owner cuts hair well-- but if you get any of the others, you are stuck with one of a row of monkeys who just know how to shave heads. A great place if you are having chemo or you're in the witness protection program. But if you are looking for an actual haircut, look elsewhere. read more

I needed a haircut on a Saturday and apparently had to settle. I won't be returning. Here's why: Stray Hairs. Every barber I've been to, I expect that if I had to go straight from the barber to a social function or something afterwards, I can be confident that the barber took care of everything and I don't need to inspect myself in the mirror afterward to let him know he missed a spot, or in this case, spots. Luckily I had nothing to do after my appointment, because my hair was the most sloppily cut I've ever had in my adult life. I asked for a #1 up top and squared in the back. The back was squared, but parts on the top were noticeably longer than the rest after running my hand through it one time. The front line was asymmetrical. He sort of buzzed one side to the skin of my front peak and left the other side with hair shorter than the top in the very front. Maybe my old barbers were weird for razor lining the front of my hair, but they would not have let me leave looking like I did. I also got a full shave. Though relaxing, I ended up with hairs left under my nostrils/at the top of my mustache, stray patches on the sides of my neck, and a cut near my adams apple where he apparently tried to get a stubborn one, failed, and gave up for me to get at later. I was wearing an unbuttoned collared shirt, and I guess that prevented him from getting my whole neck down to the bottom. I accept responsibility for not getting right in front of the mirror when he asked me what I thought, last time I trust a barber on my first visit. I also guess I should have been more specific on how neat I wanted it, but I thought the fact I mentioned I was interviewing for jobs the following days would be enough to get a clean cut. I guess you have to ask to get your male-patterned-baldness areas cleaned up of rogue, uneven length hairs too, something new to me. I wore glasses so I wasn't following what he did and didn't do, I should've worn my contacts I guess. Once home and after taking in the results, I angrily buzzed my own hair down shorter to compensate for the longer tufts, had to use an electric razor to get the patches of hair left on my face buzzed down, and tomorrow when my skin is recovered I'll have to even it all out with Gillette Fusion. A Gillette will leave me more satisfied with the results than the shave I got at Royal, which should not be the case with a straight razor shave. They were nice guys and I'm sure would fix it if I let them know. I just generally don't believe in telling professionals of this sort how to do their job, and will instead be finding a new barbershop. read more

I wish I could have written a better review for this place after reading such positive reviews, but I am very unhappy with my cut. I did not receive what I asked for in any sense even though I clearly explained what I wanted. I asked for a side part with tapered sides and back with 1 inch off the front. The barber cut 4 inches off and buzzed the rest, giving me no part or taper. I will not be going back. read more
