I have great respect for Dr. Hong, not only for his kindness and compassion but also for his skills and judgment. My friend recommended him to me, and I have gone thru three different procedures with Dr. Hong. I am very satisfied with the outcomes and trust him completely. I only wish that he could also perform orthopedic surgery so that I could finally get a knee replacement. I forgot to mention how nice the office team is. I recently had surgery and Dr. Hong was absolutely amazing. When I met him for the first time he took time to understand my concerns and made it a point to fight for insurance coverage for a procedure that is often not approved. When I had questions leading up to the surgery, he and his care team responded to my MyHealthOnline messages promptly and he even gave me his cellphone number for urgent questions. On the day of surgery he made me feel super calm and cared for, and kept my mom updated since he knew she was caring for me after. The nursing staff and anesthesiology team at Altos Oaks Surgery Center are also incredible! I woke up without too much pain and I everything was really efficient and ran on time. The morning after my surgery, he texted my mom and I to make sure I was feeling okay and at all the follow-up appointments he's been thorough and attentive. Dr. Ray Hong did my upper blepharoplasty two weeks ago. He is an excellent, absolutely the best cosmetic surgeon with over 30 years of experience. I'm totally impressed with Dr. Hong and his support staff's professionalism, always cheerful and courteous, especially Jeffery and Alondra's impeccable communication skills both verbal and text. The cosmetic-surgery center was very clean, and their nurses and anesthesiologist were wonderful. I felt very safe and cared for. The entire surgical process was very smooth, timely, and thorough. Dr. Hong was available 24/7 during my recovery period with surgery-related questions/problems. I'm most impressed by Dr. Hong's immediate response to my text questions. After the surgery, I covered my eyelids with chill gel-ice packs to alleviate swelling and soreness as directed. I didn't need any pain medication. This is my second week, my eyelids look puffy with red scars around incision sites. I expect anyone who has the blepharoplasty procedure takes time for complete recovery to look normal. I am very pleased with my surgery experience and outcome of it and very grateful to Dr. Hong and his entire team for their flawless, outstanding thoughtful care for me. I had an eye bag removal surgery by Dr Hong. Before the surgery, he was super friendly, promising correction if the surgery did not have good result. The result was not good - although the bags directly under the eyes were mostly gone, they prominently bulged out asymmetrically (!) on the outer sides. When I talked with him, he became very unfriendly and defensive, saying that's normal and my cheek bones were asymmetric anyway, and he would not do anything about it. He asked me to compare the pictures before and after the surgery and said it look better than before. Please be aware of his deceiving trick - he makes the after-pictures much brighter than the before-pictures to make you feel the result is much better than what it really is. I would not recommend this dishonest doctor to anyone. read more

Dr. Hong and his staff are wonderful people, and I could not be happier with what would otherwise be an unpleasant experience. I recently had to undergo a medical procedure on part my face. Needless to say, making any changes to any parts remotely close to a face is a stressful experience. Dr. Hong made a process I was fearful about really straightforward, calm, and easy. He was really welcoming, set expectations ahead of time, explained everything he was about to do before and during the procedure, followed up afterwards, and left me feeling way better than I could possibly expect after having such a procedure done. Two days after, I got an update call from him that everything is clear. I just got the stitches out and am really happy with the result. I'm doing it, yelping my plastic surgeon. Six months ago I had a breast augmentation with Dr. Hong. I went in knowing I wanted an augmentation and a friend had referred me to Palo Alto Medical Foundation. When I called, they set up an appointment for me with Dr. Hong. Dr. Hong was the second surgeon I met with and since I had a personal recommendation if I liked him I was going to go with him. They let me set up my initial consult and my pre-op appointment at one time. All of the staff was nice. Dr. Hong is about the nicest person I've ever met. It's hard to remember he's a surgeon. They gave me a packet of information, including what I needed to stop doing and when before surgery. On the day of surgery I had my friend drop me off, I was beyond nervous. Dr. Hong and the staff, including the anesthesiologist made me feel better. I was so nervous the anesthesiologist gave me something while I was waiting, as they wheeled me into the OR it kicked in and nothing could have bothered me at that point. When I woke up I was in a little pain and they gave me more meds. Then they gave me a juice box, I asked for more, and more. Shortly after that the nurse came in and dressed me and sat me in a room to wait for my husband to come and pick me up. I had silicone put in, under the muscle. The recovery time for this is supposed to be longer, but it gives a more natural look. For the first few days, when I'd sit up or lay down I'd have muscle pain, but I didn't take anything for pain after the day of surgery - it just wasn't that bad. I had surgery on a Wednesday, Friday I begged my husband to drive me into town for a mani/pedi and lunch - I was bored. I started driving on Sunday and went back to work on Monday. I've had a fair amount of surgery in my lifetime, and this was by FAR the easiest. It takes three months to determine what you will look like in the end. I wanted to yelp Dr. Hong right away, but figured I better wait until I see the end result. I love them. I went from an A to a C. People can't tell I had my breasts done because they look so natural. I told Dr. Hong to go as big as he could with the goal of looking natural. Clothes fit the way they should now, bathing suits are way more fun now that they don't fly off when I leap into the pool. It's amazing. They are soft and natural feeling. I can't believe I waited so long to do this. Dr. Hong was recommended to me by a friend who said the bra guru at Nordstrom described him as "an artist." I had surgery with him and was very pleased with the results. Besides that, I was really impressed by Dr. Hong. I explained the outcome I was hoping for and he talked me through the procedure and what was realistic to expect. He didn't try to upsell me or influence my choice beyond saying he could do this or that, and was that what I wanted? I'd heard from other friends about doctors who refuse to do breast reductions to a particular cup size because they think it would be unaesthetic. His staff was responsive and helpful as well. Dr. Hong removed my 7 year old daughter's mole on her lower leg (outpatient, local anesthesia). My daugher is extremely sensitive and feels pain much more intensely than anyone I know. Dr. Hong has a terrific bedside manner, incredibly affable and trustworthy. He was very quick with the needle and the knife and the whole procedure was done fairly quickly. My daughter actually looked forward to seeing him for her post-surgery checkup. She thinks Dr. Hong is the best doctor ever! Dr. Hong performed my double mastectomy reconstruction with the placement of expanders and then my second surgery with placement of breast implants. From beginning to end with multiple follow up visits he made me feel comfortable, He always took his time with me I never felt rushed, he explained the whole process, his whole staff is super friendly and professional. I'm no expert on plastic surgeons but my son had an accident at school and split his lip. My son is sensitive to pain and was scared about the procedure, never having had stitches before. Dr. Hong not only saw us in the middle of his busy schedule, unplanned and without a previous appointment, but he met my son and me with a relaxed, playful attitude that put my son at ease. He listened to my son's fears, explained what was going to happen, didn't sugar coat the discomfort of the numbing shot, but was comforting. He was happy to let me be there for my son as a comfort and praised my son after for his bravery (and mentioned how calm I was, as well.) I waited 18 years to finally pull the plug and I'm so glad I chose Dr Hong. I'm a Mom in her late 30s that has always been happy with my body. After kids, I went from an A to a deflated AA if that's even possible. Bras were always super padded, bikinis were always triple padded and I just decided I wanted to do something for me. It took me 18 years because I was scared as hell and kept thinking what if I make the biggest mistake of my life. I decided to call in and somehow got transferred to Linda (she's amazing), who talked me through the whole process to ease my comfort. We ended up scheduling a consult with Dr Hong and I basically told him I wanted to have a natural size (AA to B). And mentioned I didn't want to die during this procedure. I can't even explain how relaxed he makes one feel. Nurse Cindy (so sweet) took before pics and then showed me how I would look on a fancy 3d (Vextra, SP?) machine with my ideal size. It was like seeing the future of what my body would look like which helped me understand the size I wanted to be. Then they give you CCs that are ideal to what you want so you can walk around to see if you like the size. My husband accompanied me and felt highly confident with Dr Hong. So I scheduled a surgery date, got scared 2 weeks before the surgery and the nurses and doctor walked me through the procedure and I was good again. The night before surgery, I started really having major remorse with the what ifs. I went in the next day with my husband and I instantly felt relieved when I stepped into the Surgery center. The team of nurses and staff are phenomenal. Dr Hong came in and I was so happy to see him and forgot about my nervousness. He marked up my body with a marker and basically told me I'll wake up with soreness and everything would be OK. The anesthesiologist walked me through the process and said he would be next to be the entire surgery to monitor my vitals. The procedure was about 1 hr and I felt no pain during surgery. I remembered waking up with nurse Betty greeting me. I looked down, and was like oh my goodness I did it! I'M ALIVE! I get to see my kids. They wheeled me to the car after 1 hour of monitoring me. Day 1. Slept, ate soup and slept most of the day. I only took Tylenol for soreness. Day 2, walked around, ate and napped here and there with Tylenol. By day 3 I was back to myself. I was prepared to be in horrific pain and was quite surprised Tylenol was enough. I did NO lifting and listened to Drs orders. That was the hardest part, trying not to do much. The pain is more like a pressure pain when you get up and down from bed. Use lots of pillows to prop yourself and this helps. Still Day 3, I decided to look and loved them instantly even with the swelling but they didn't look crazy swollen. Its been 2 months and I'm in awee that I did this and DID THIS FOR MYSELF. I went back to work day 5, worked out after 4 weeks with cardio and its 8 weeks and I'm back to weights and running. I would recommend Dr Hong to anyone considering this procedure. My scars aren't even bad after 2 months, very light. I'm a full B and have no regrets. ZERO regrets. I adore him and everyone on his team and am writing this thorough review because its OK to want to do something for yourself regardless of what other's views may be. I wanted to do something for myself and set aside everyone's opinions and I am so glad I did and thank you Los Altos Center! read more

Dr. Hong was incompetent in my treatment. I wish I could give him a negative score, have to settle for a one star. I went to see Dr. Hong for a cosmetic surgery, he seemed nervous, could not come up with a plan, and did not listen to what we wanted or preferred. He botched the surgery, left terrible scars, and could not manage his own complications. His post-operative instructions were harmful. Would not recommend Dr. Hong to my family or friends for even a simple procedure. read more

I would give Dr Hong 10 stars if I could. I could not be happier with my results, but beyond that it is the man who gets the stars and not my results. From my first appointment Dr Hong put my fears at ease. He was extremely professional, knowledgeable and had done his research on my personal history. He answered my many questions and was always patient. After surgery he responded promptly to text messages and made time to see me when I had questions or concerns. Dr. Hong was the recommended Plastic Surgeon at PAMF to reconstruct my radiated breast after I had a 2nd diagnosis of breast cancer in the same breast. I had a lumpectomy and radiation 5 years prior to the 2nd diagnosis. The breast skin was very thin from radiation treatment, and I needed new skin in order to rebuild a healthy breast. I had a mastectomy removing all the breast tissue and Dr. Hong took a flap of skin from my back latissimus muscle. The results were/are AMAZING! The interesting piece of information I found out about Dr. Hong was... he studied under my original Plastic Surgeon at MDAnderson Cancer Center, Houston. I had a partial mastectomy and a Tram Flap procedure on the breast that was not radiated in 1995. The Tram Flap surgery was a new technique known by only a few surgeons at that time. Dr. Hong not only rebuilt the breast that was radiated, he rebuilt both breasts at the same time so they would match. Very Impressive Surgeon! Very Kind and Caring Human Being! On July 30, 2014, I read Dr. Hong's 11/16/12 Yelp Review where the reviewer says that the bra guru at Nordstrom described him as "an artist." I was able to get an appointment with Dr. Hong the next day, due to a cancellation. Dr. Hong is just a terrific human being. He is gentle, kind and compassionate. I had not taken my clothes off for any man other than my husband in 25 years, so I was understandably self-conscious about taking them off for Dr. Hong. He put me at ease, showing nothing but understanding and concern as I described how I felt about what my recent drastic weight loss and two pregnancies and breastfeeding in my forties had done to my body. My breasts were at my waist and my waist was at my crotch. We discussed both a breast reduction and a tummy tuck. And because I have no experience with such things, never believing that I would ever be a person to get elective plastic surgery, I gave Dr. Hong permission to do what he thought was appropriate and natural looking for my frame and stature. My breast situation was so serious that my insurance agreed that it was medically necessary, due to the pain in my back and neck caused by the weight. That very day, we scheduled my surgery for October 6, 2014. I will be honest, these types of surgeries are painful, particularly when they are done at the same time. And painkillers do not work on me. So a positive attitude and a can-do spirit are very important. During my recovery, I had the care of my very wonderful personal assistant, in addition to two terrific massage therapists and two naturopathic doctors. After several months of healing, I highly recommend a massage therapist knowledgeable in working on scar tissue. On April 14, 2015, I went in to see Dr. Hong for my six month followup appointment. I asked for copies of both the before and after pictures that his office staff took. If I was not there myself when both sets of pictures were taken, I would not believe it. In the before pictures, my sagging everything looks like a "fat suit." In the after pictures, my breasts are exactly where they belong, in proper proportion to the rest of my body. (They were always too large for my frame, but no more.) My almost 55 year old abdomen looks like it did 30 years ago ... the six-pack abs of the ex-dancer, gymnast and athlete are back. The scars are barely visible. (I can't promise you six-pack abs if you didn't have them underneath there before.)
