They work with kids as young as 3, I think and all with the patience of a saint - they can put up with crying, stubborn behavior, fear, hesitation, with a smile on their face and a heart of gold! And Ms Shinogu brings great discipline into the class and doesn't put up with nonsense but she does it in a way that is extremely nurturing and caring. She really wants to support all of the students to be the best of themselves. The Tumbling classes can be hard to get into so if you're interested in tumbling, sign up as soon as class registration opens. Ms Gina was very understanding when we were first starting and helped us navigate our way through the classes and now we're there 3 times a week. One tough thing is that participating in the summer performance is very expensive and somewhat cost prohibitive between the participation fee, costume fees, volunteer requirement, and ticket prices. However, dance students are not required to participate in the performance and can still completely participate in the regular classes! The one awful thing about this place is the parking. 1) there is a free lot (register for 1 hour free, after that it's paid) across the small street but it's so hard to find a stall because it's shared with a lot of other places, the stalls are small, and so many cars can't park within the lines, 2) they can ticket you, even if you have paid - they did rescind it but only after I took the time to figure out how to dispute it, 3) there are a few street parking spaces up the hill but hard to get, 4) you can park at the municipal lot but have to allocate enough time to walk across the street, and sometimes that lot is full.

Acoustics were good and because no tickets for it, it left many of the audience standing as it was a packed house. Luckily for a 4 pm performance there was some shade on the outdoor stairs and a canopied area with some benches to wait until the doors were opened. Although we didn't have center seats since it was first come first served the view even at the end of a row was fine. Parking can be a challenge unless you come an hour early to snag a close by stall.

On one occasion, it was held at Farrington High School's Auditorium and that was a better choice because it was closer to Windward Mall where the 247 Dance Force Studio is located and closer to where most dance students live. Classes just started and for the beginner and for those who have experience, attending the beginning class will set the foundation for proper footwork and basic choreography. The nice part is that the class allows the Sensei to break down choreography as well as teach the storyline and history of the dances. Some tips to consider: * be at the front of line to learn and don't be afraid to ask questions to Joyce Sensei. * bring water and towel. * if can bring a dance towel, uchiwa, batchi sticks. *where comfortable clothing and shoes. *all levels welcome. * enthusiasm and smile! I'll have to say that when I first got here everyone knew each other. I could tell I was walking into a family that had known each other for years. Which made me nervous cuz that's why I left my previous dance studio in the first place. But Applause welcomed me with open arms & by the second week I felt like one of their own. As the years went by the family only got bigger & bigger because that's the kind of place applause is. Not only do they have amazing teachers in dance, voice, & acting but they also have FANTASTIC workshops from broadway stars & other accredited people that I was able to put on my résumé. Sadly, I do not dance at Applause anymore. Thanks to my mentors at Applause, I've been living in NYC for 2 years where I am now applying all my training to peruse the dreams that I had when I signed up for classes at this studio 6 years ago. I was with TCP…read morefrom age 9-17 and Kenny and Chizuko Senseis (along with my other senseis) taught me so much about the art of taiko and made me so proud of my heritage. Back then, we were at the KCC Chapel and I have many fond memories of cleaning, loading/unloading for performances, bonenkais, and hours of blood (mostly just blisters), sweat, and tears from laughing and having so much fun together. Thank you TCP for continuing to support the community with this art form. I hope to one day be able to show my child (if I have one) what a great sport/art form/culture taiko is!
