Roxy's has provided me with not only a fair price, but also very valuable accurate advice on how to get the most out of my instrument.

Is Roxy's still open? I thought I saw, on The Batavia, they are closed for good.

I just called and their number is no longer in use

The owners are expert musicians and craftspeople that will have your instrument adjusted and in tip-top shape in a reasonable time at a reasonable cost. Alder Creek also sells and rents instruments. You can't go wrong - these folks will stand behind what they sell, and provide the knowledge and support you'll need.

This isn't the first time I've left there wondering what has happened in her life to make her so miserable? I took a rental in to be looked at because one of a key's wasn't closing. As I was inquiring about the issue I started to sense an attitude from the female clerk. Maybe I as a customer gave up those rights of inquiry when i signed the rental agreement (?). So, I with a little annoyed inflection in return inquired about her unnecessary attitude. Her loud and scolding retort informed me it was because she was out at the counter while 'he' (the owner) was in the back eating dinner and that this was the second instrument that I've brought back for repairs due to dropped damage! And that I was given a big break on the last repair! So my loud and excited reply was to apologize for stopping in during normal business (and apparently) dinner hours. I also apologized because I didn't realize and show my appreciation for the "big break" I got on the last repair! I also apologized and was very sorry that I rented many instruments from them over the course of years for our daughter and son... and that I would be sure to inform others of my unpleasant experience. Customer service - and honestly human decency - is just severely lacking. Our son won't even go in there to purchase reeds or other supplies anymore because this lady has been so miserable when we've stopped in the past. Perhaps this damage was our fault - perhaps not, however, does understanding the depth of the repair and the cost seem an unreasonable request? We've spent so much money there through the years, it's unreal how we've been treated when we came in for a repair request. The owner did come out to address the situation and although we've found him to be decent in the past, he didn't apologize for the terrible treatment by his female clerk...and that is failing at Customer Service 101.

That's also, for what it is worth, been my experience at Music City Buffalo. I went in there originally for voice and guitar lessons after getting frustrated with my lack of progress on my own. The lessons--particularly voice lessons with Carina, store owner Vince Mastrantonio's partner--were helpful, and built a relationship that made me trust them enough to buy instruments (people in the business can be kind of shady, and so this is important to me). Vince will work with you (within reason, of course) on prices, and I've now picked up three guitars from MCB. (If you are a Gretsch fan, there is hardly a reason to go anyplace else.) I've also had my upright bass set up there, picked up a used amp, have another guitar repair planned, and will be back for guitar lessons with Vince--an accomplished guitarist himself, which is always a bonus in a teacher--likely this summer. I've always been happy with the turnover, the pricing on purchases and repairs, and the quality of the work. We've also taken to seeing their three-piece jazz-noir band, Carina and the Six-string Preacher, around town. They're cool people who like engaging with the crowd, and I think that's a good way to sum up Music City Buffalo as well.
