Po'boy here is pretty good but not worth the $13-$14. The serving of fries that came with it was very small. If the servings were bigger then it would definitely be worth the price. read more

I had the gumbo and fried pickles, my friend had an oyster Po-boy and fried green tomatoes. It's a shame I don't live in the area otherwise I'd go back, it's hard to find good creole food and this was some good food. read more

Jambalaya was rich and flavorful, not spicy at all. Catfish PO boy was my favorite, it satisfied my taste buds! Beignets and chicken PO boy were delicious!!! Gumbo was too salty. read more

Every time I've come to Roux Dat I've ended up getting the shrimp po' boy and jambalaya... and it's never disappointed. At my last visit I decided to cheapen out and get the lunch special, which the shrimp po' boy isn't a part of. For the lunch special you have a choice of four po' boys, a side, and a drink. I tried the roast beef po' boy and it was even better than the shrimp! The meat was delicious, the bread was crispy, and the side of gumbo I had was so filling and flavorful! I actually feel lucky that I was introduced to this place by a friend, and keep bringing new coworkers to experience the awesome food that is Roux Dat! read more

This place is absolutely amazing! I don't live around the Santa Cruz area, but when I visit out of town it's absolutely a must for me to eat at a restaurant that I've never tried before! This one was recommended to me and it did not disappoint! The decor for the place is very Louisiana with lots of color and festive designs. I like places where there's an order, pay, sit down, type of situation going on. So it was quick and efficient getting our orders. The menu is pretty standard creole, southern, soul food. Half of the menu board consist of a po' boys and fries menu. The other side of the menu is an option of getting entree meals over rice with an option to do one whole dish or just half and half of another if you can't make up your mind. We both chose half/half of the Sausage and Shrimp Jambalaya and Corn and Shrimp Étouffée with brown rice. There was so much soul, I think I saw Jesus and God! It was absolutely delicious! The amount you get is so generous, full of the meat and veggies. It was also served with 2 awesome buttered bread as well which was a bonus! On the side I got a Cajun Seasoned Fries. It was ok, nothing special. For starters we got powdered sugar beignets. Though they weren't the best beignets I've had, they were still very good! The best part of this food trip was that we got all of these amazing food for only $30! What a bargain! If you're ever in this area in Santa Cruz, I suggest going to this place for food! It's cheap food for amazing quality and quantity. You won't be disappointed! read more

Easily one of the top five "bring your out of town friend or family member here when you can't think of anything else" kindsa restaurants. This place, Charlie Hong Kong and Ponos would be my three go to places for something quick that's not a bar or a white table cloth. Always fast and friendly service. read more

Grabbed take out from Roux Dat during our weekend trip to Capitols. The poboys (fried green tomato & shrimp), side of stews (non-veg and vegan jambalayas) and hush puppies were delicious! Tons of flavor, fresh and just the right amount of spice. So glad we found this spot - perfect after a day packed with hiking and walking. read more

I had catfish po boy. It was fresh and yummy. I did feel that food was experience given the small portions. read more

After reading their website and yelp reviews I was super excited to check this place out. I liked the option of getting half and half entrees, as I like to try all different stuff. My dad and I stopped by for lunch while we were in Santa Cruz a couple weeks ago. We shared an entrée which was half Chicken Creole and half Spinach & Mushroom Etouffee, with half white rice and half brown rice. We also shared two of their side combos which allowed us to try a half portion of each of their side dishes (fries, sweet potato fries, fries green tomatoes, and hush puppies), AND to top it off we ended our meal with the beignets which came with a rum caramel sauce. Food: pretty good. I doubt it would win awards but it was tasty enough. The etouffee was probably the best, between that and the chicken. It had a lot of veggies and a balanced flavor. The chicken had a flavor and texture that I'm not used to and it kind of turned me off. I can't describe it. It was also cold. However, I did eat it. Out of all of the sides, the sweet potato fries were the best (really good actually!). They were sprinkled with some kind of seasoning salt and came with a dipping sauce that was really good. The tomatoes were pretty good and the hush puppies were not what I remember hush puppies being like. They needed some help. Lastly, I did not like the beignets. Too doughy inside, WAY too much powdered sugar and the sauce tasted like straight rum but looked creamy...weird! Menu online says $8, 8.50 for half/half, menu in restaurant says $9/9.50. Service: OK. The person working the counter was super nice and that's what matters most I think. However, when I asked them the difference between etouffee, gumbo, and jambalaya, they had no real answer and told me they were just names meaning "stew". I'm guessing in a way they're actually correct but I was hoping for some info about why they have different names. Also, the people ahead of us in line took FOR EVER (this is not the counter person's fault) and even asked to taste some of the entrees before ordering. They were supplied with little sample cups to try. So we just stood there watching them sample all these different entrees and finally make a decision. The person at the counter could have just taken our order while that couple made up their mind. I love the idea of samples though, just think it should be handled differently. And lastly, and what bothered me most, their bathroom situation. My dad needed to wash his hands before his meal. When he asked to use the restroom the busboy told him that the closest "public restroom" was just a couple doors down at Bed Bath and Beyond. So my dad leaves and returns 10 minutes later, after our food has arrived. He tells me that a "couple" doors down actually means about 10 doors down. And then you have to go into a totally different establishment to use their bathroom? I don't consider that a "public" bathroom. While my dad is telling me this I look through Roux Dat's kitchen to see a door with a bathroom sign on it. WTF? I'm hoping they at least have an agreement with BB&B. read more

A hidden gem tucked away inside a Capitola strip mall. The food here is, well, just about everything I love about food: delicious, different, interesting, healthy(ish), and varied. At lunch I love the shrimp poboy sandwiches. For dinner, any of the stews. Bignets are always a hit. There are only 4 or 5 tables so I usually take the food home. read more

Disappointed! Got the small bowl of red beans, rice, and andouille sausage. There were literally only 4 tiny slices of sausage the diameter of a tiny hot dog! What? The rest of the bowl, all rice and beans! Yep! $10 plus $2.00 tax. $12 for a very small bowl of rice and beans! NOT a good value IMHO. Rip-off! No thanks! Won't be back! read more

Had a poeboy with shrimp. It was good but not worth 15 bucks. It's spicy as Cajun food should be but beware! The beignets look amazing so I'll be back to try them read more

We found this place; thanks yelp! SOOOOO BOMB! I love Cajun food, especially me living in the south and it almost tastes like you're in New Orleans. The service was great, portion sizes were decent. I can't remember what my fiancé and I got there but I'm pretty sure we shared whatever we got and we were perfectly stuffed! You get to sit outside or inside! Everything was on point. read more

This is a great business. The cashier allowed us to taste a few of the different options on the menu and it enabled us to find what we liked the best. It was a great experience and we loved every bite. Very great environment, welcoming staff, fantastic food. read more

Horrid turnoff at Windmill because of waiting almost 40 min for our food, which turned out I could have made at home. We headed straight here for round 2 and totally turned 360 happy. For a small place it had everything nawleans including great beer. Ridiculously great prices, great food, and great combo options. I had no favorite because everything I had was damn delicious. ..so much I had to order another round of hush puppies for the road. read more

The food is excellent. A great selection of Cajun dishes. They follow COVID protocols, so I felt comfortable here. I'll definitely be back.

The shrimp etouffee was pretty good, not amazing. It's poor man's food, not worth $11. Benigets were super disappointing - crunchy crackers covered in powdered sugar :/ No restroom access makes this an inconvenient place for a lunch break. read more

Awesome place we even go there for coffee and beignets, I would dare to say that the small bites beignets are actually tastier than the cafe du monde in New Orleans, don't judge me just go try it out first read more

I love that they had vegetarian options and that it tasted amazing. Don't let the fact that it's in a plaza mall fool you. I had the spinach mushroom etouffe and spicy fennel and portabella jambalaya. Lots of flavor and although it wasn't spicy enough for me there were PLENTY of hot sauce options. I loved it. read more

So happy I finally made the trek to Roux Dat. As I walked towards the entry, I got a big smile with the creativity of the surfboard (shape) used in their logo. As I opened the door the combination of music and creole spice was a welcome gift to my senses. Smile got even bigger. It's been some time since I've been back to Naw Orleans and I'm getting exciting to get my fix on. Had a Oyster Po Boy and chips. Absolutely perfect! Wife had the red beans, rice and sausage. Great! LOVE the slap ya Mama hot sauce....... The beignets weren't as good as Cafe Dumond, BUT REALLY, this is Capitola and they're still pretty good. The pralines are just as tasty as what you can get in the French Quarter. So happy we have this eatery, as I'll be back for more. Laissez le bon rouleau de temps........ read more

Place is small but wow the food is amazing!!!! Love it. I got the chicken creole stew and it was bomb!

A slightly overpriced Cajun joint. Catfish po' boy tasted like a whopper with fish. Staff was wonderful and inviting but I don't think the food I tasted justified the price. 4 catfish sandwiches and sweet potato fries for around 60 bucks with tax. If you haven't tried Cajun cooking I'd still recommend giving this place a try but if you've had the good stuff you will be disappointed. read more

This place is so yummy. I got the jambalaya and it was delicious! I would definitely come visit more often if I lived in the area. It was such a great comfort food item. I wish they had different types of drinks though. I was looking forward to having a mint julep but I didn't see any. read more

Just ok. Shrimp Po Boy just didn't have much flavor. Even the Cajun fries were pretty bland. With an iced tea I paid $15 before tax. At the price I expected more. Don't know how it earned 4.5 stars read more

Flavorful stews. Loved the 50/50 where you can choose items if you can't decide. The Jambalaya & Beans & Sausage with a line of rice was good. Not too hot, so you can enjoy the flavored. The Gumbo & Crawfish & Sausage Maque Choux was terrific. We had to order 2 servings of French fries (plain) because our son kept eating them! We went here while on our trip in the Capitola area. We got the oyster and shrimp Po' boys and an order of beignets. All of the food was delicious! While visiting Santa Cruz for the day I found this nice little surprise on Yelp. We go to New Orleans frequently and have eaten at the best restraunts there. That said, we were skeptical of this spot but were pleasantly surprised be the authenticity of the food. He had the chicken gumbo and fried catfish. I had a shrimp poboy with a side of fried green tomatoes. In what seemed like mere minutes, we were smacking our lips and licking our fingers - and it was gone! The gumbo was extremely good and had fresh gulf shrimp (yes you can taste the difference). Washed down with freshly made lemonade (the bottle of simple syrup to personalize your glass was a nice touch) we were satisfied and happy. The cashier was friendly and happy to answer questions aboit the menu. Santa Cruz's best kept secret. Who knew? read more

Food was great love the atmosphere. They are moving to a new location in the same parking lot. Had the spicy chicken po' boy they Chicken was thin and crispy and had great flavor. The seasoned fries were fresh and crispy as well. Loved the lemonade and that they provide fresh mint to add to it. The waitress brought out of food and asked if we wanted our beignets at the same time or after we were done, we asked for them when we were done. She kept an eye on us even though she was helping other customers and brought them out piping hot right when we finished our meals. Great overall experience. read more

The best authentic jumbalya in town. Also have the best fresh lemonade highly recommend

Looking for a one of a kind and found this greasy little place in a strip mall! Very authentic. I had the oyster po boy and it was very tasty. The beast ood flaky on the outside and soft on ght inside. Not sure if it is New Orleans French rolls but they are similar. I also had the red beans and rice. They were creamy and full of flavor. Wil definitely return next time I'm in the area to try the beignets!! read more

Ok so love the Cajun food here. They have vegetarian (vegan) Jambalaya which is almost unheard of unless you make it yourself! They have awesome étouffée, yummy bread with Cajun butter, delicious hush puppies and fried green tomatoes. If you want to try something new or want something that tastes delicious, give this place a try. We discovered Cajun food in Texas and not really finding it around the Bay Area with reasonable prices as well, vegetarian options makes this joint on my frequent list now! Next time, it's time to try the infamous beignets! Enjoy! read more

I feel bad giving this restaurant one star. But when i arrived with my family, the young female cashier did not seem happy to serve us. She saw we had children with us and also did not say a word about a kids menu. I had to get out of my seat and go to the counter to notify my wife that there is a sign that said kids menu. I understand people have hard days, but you aren't supposed to make customers feel like they are not wanted. Also there was alot of dust on all of the napkin dispensers and a pile of dust was inside our napkin dispenser. Also the silver ware I had seemed like it still had food stuck too it from the previous customers. After leaving I started to feel nauseous and kind of sick. The taste of the food was okay, but not worth the poor customer service or dirty surroundings. Eat at your own risk. read more
