This weekend, I got my first (used) kayak! Thrilled that everyone who works here knows about the products they sell and is eager to help others start an activity or upgrade. Very impressed by their willingness to buy back items so you can upgrade to the next best thing. And you can test out all the boats and boards on the wee pond out back. I would pay a bit more for this kind of service but actually spent less than the big box. Love love love supporting a small business! Was crazy busy so we had to be patient but no biggie. My review is for their shoe depot. We've browsed the kayaks and equipment but haven't had a need for those items. I bought my first pair of boots from them six years ago and haven't needed to come back! My sister gave me a gift card and they didn't have anything in stock that I wanted so they let me browse their vendor catalogs. I ended up getting a pair of Cobb hill boots and my goodness have they held up! I've had to change out the laces, and the heel is starting to wear down but they still look great and professional for winter office wear! Mind you I wore these almost everyday some seasons with a .75 mile walk each way into the office from my parking lot. I'm just amazed by the quality of product that they have in stock. I've never had a pair of dress boots last like that! So because of my great experience we went again to look for shoes for my husband while we were back in the area visiting family (we now live about an hour away). Unfortunately they didn't have a great selection of dress shoes for men, so we didn't end up getting anything. We would have opted to order again but since we lived far away and it would have required us to drive back another day, we didn't. I almost got another pair of boots though (even though I don't need them). The only thing that's odd is how they sit down next to your feet while you try on the boots... oh well. read more

Chainsaws, kayaks and a fab assortment of great shoes! What more could a girl want?? Especially the chainsaws!! Really, for me, it's all about the great assortment of hiking shoes. I bought a great pair of "dressy" Merrells here a few years ago and I've returned for a great pair of summer hikers. They have a GREAT assortment of comfort shoes, hikers, DarnTough socks, Teva flip flops in every color and shape, rain/muck boots and men's work boots. They do have a sale room, but sizes are super hard to come by - at least for me. The shoes aren't cheap, but they are no more expensive than anywhere else. (I have checked extensively!) The quality of small engine sales and service expertise that these folks bring to the job is exceptional. I have every confidence that they know what they are doing and want me to leave their shop a satisfied customer. Most recently, I got a totally unexpected chain saw sharpening tutorial which ended up saving some money by my NOT buying a pricey sharpening gadget and learning to do a much better job on my own. Their prices are a bit higher than the big box stores but I'll still make all of my chain saw, hedge trimmer, weed whacker and related purchases from them. Do NOT take your small equipment here to be repaired. They are listed as a gold star dealer, but should be NO STAR! They overcharge for labor, charge for new parts not installed, and equipment doesn't run any better when you get it back than when you took it there for repair. When questioned, they become rude. There are a lot of workers, but it appears very few actually do anything, and they really don't want to bother with you unless they can sell you something new. BEWARE!!!! I will also say that their shoe store is very, but prices are no great bargain. read more

I recently stopped in at The Shoe Outlet at Power & Paddle to buy some new shoes for work. They had a great selection of all the notable brands. The staff was quick to check in with me, offering help or to answer questions. After browsing for a while on my own I asked the nearest employee for advice he was quick to offer several suggestions based purely on my job and shoe preference. He was clearly very knowledgable about all of the shoes as well as which model would best fit my work environment. Through the whole process of trying on numerous paris he further proved his extensive knowledge. He was very polite, patient, not pushy, and just wanted to make sure I got the right shoe for me. In the end I found the perfect pair of shoes for work, and ended up buying a second pair of casual shoes. Overall I had a great experience, the staff was super friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. I was fully satisfied with my buying experience, and will return should I find myself with similar needs. I would definitely recommend this store to anyone looking to buy quality shoes especially if you are unsure about what exactly would be best for you, as they will definitely we able to guide you in the right direction. read more

My wife and I stopped in to look at kayaks mid week. Mike was very helpful with explanations about kayaks in general and specifically with the Wilderness brand they carry. After narrowing down the type of kayak that would fit our needs Mike also explained the other "mandatory" items required. We also were asked about how we would transport our kayak to and from and Mike had what we felt was useful information on roof rack and trailering options. After returning home and doing a little more investigation , we found out that Power & Paddles pricing was inline with what you could find online. One note Mike made perfectly clear to us. "Wilderness brand could not dictate what price they sell at but they could only advertise the companies MSRP. With that in mind Mike explained that they usually discount about 10% off MSRP. I did ask about sale pricing and he stated that their discount was their price every day. One other note. Power & Paddle has a full range of sit in and sit on top of kayaks that they let you test paddle on their pond out back. All in all we felt welcomed and informed. No pressure and any advise you can ask for. Remember they are a business that is customer oriented and they rely on walk-in customers to continue selling. I don't think I could find a better answer to my questions nor the ability to try them out shopping on the internet. I also found out that if you buy through them you only pay $38 shipping fee vs. roughly $200 delivered to your home from online dealers. My advise is go talk to Mike and make your own decisions. read more

My family owns several kayaks, and was in the market for a new one. We checked the Power and Paddle website, but it didn't list kayaks in stock or any prices-it just had links to the websites of major brands they carry. So you have to go in person. Their kayak store is large and well laid out, with a satisfying range of accessories. We were the only customers there on the day we visited, having taken a long drive specifically to go there with a view to buying a kayak that day. After perusing the displays, we had a few questions. There was no one around to ask-no wait, we spied a teenager working at the back of the store. He seemed irritated to be interrupted, and reluctant to come over and answer our questions. His responses were all monosyllabic, and when drawn out, he again came across as quite irritated to have to answer customer questions. After our mutually unsatisfactory conversation, I was left with a clear idea of what he wanted and prioritized in a kayak, but he still had no idea of my needs or requirements. Finally he said "Look, the 3 kayaks you are interested in are all at the test pond-just go and try them out." So we did. It turned out only one of the kayaks l had mentioned was there-2 were not. (There are an abundance of kayaks at the test pond, but no staff to help you there). We did try the one kayak we were interested in that was there, but were so disappointed with the complete lack of customer service that we took ourselves and our money elsewhere, and bought a kayak from another business (with salespeople that were interested in matching us with a kayak suitable to our needs) later that week! In summary: go there only if you are extremely knowledgeable about all the models of the brands they carry, and are prepared to do all the research and comparisons yourself, with no help whatsoever from staff. Having such a great selection but no one to help you narrow down your choices or review your requirements seems like a real shame! So, I give Power and Paddle one star, only because I liked the selection. read more

My experience with this places shoe outlet went from good to horrible. I went there for my company to purchase some footwear and clothing everything was very nice the fellow that helped me said that the footwear he'd a 30 day comfort guarantee and I could bring them back in any condition and they would either refund the money or trade them for new ones. I wore the boots for a week and found out they were a little too big so I brought them back and the same fellow took them and said he would order new ones of the right size. The next day I received a phone call from him saying that he couldn't take them because the guarantee was only through the manufacturer and there was nothing he could do. I said the only reason I was comfortable buying these boots was because I had a guarantee that I could bring them back and get new ones he said and I quote "there is nothing I can do sir". Needless to say I nor my company are ever going back to that place again and I hope whoever reads this will learn from my mistake that this place doesn't care about its customers happiness. read more
