I doubt many people just stumble in with no idea what to expect - you get The Flock! The people who know about the tactile loveliness and the riot of color that is yarn shop! Seriously, I first visited several years ago. I live about an hour away from Ithaca, but whenever I'm around, Homespun is on the itinerary. I was newly widowed, in need of comfort, and yarn is good for your soul. It's a darling little shop, and there were mittens made from bulky yarn, very rustic, in the display window. What could be more soothing than mittens? I went in. The rest is hazy, due to time passing and the spell that comes over me in any yarn shop - I wake up in my driveway with my credit card in my hand and a trunk full of yarn... weird, huh? I do recall that I purchased some bulky red wool and dpn's the size of firewood, and it turned out that I already had the pattern in a book at home. I remember fondling some oilcloth with a retro floral print that I dug, and I'm quite sure I purchased more than just mitten wool - nice selection at prices you would expect to pay for quality yarns. It was the end of the day and they were scheduled to close five minutes before I came in, and I apologized for coming in so close to closing and then being drawn and distracted by the huge array of fabrics on offer. I'm already now looking into what they offer for sewing classes because I have some projects I'm working on related to bookbinding and it would help me to learn/re-learn how to sew. I…read morewas sad the ceramics studio in Ithaca had closed due to the pandemic but Kelly was gracious enough to open her home for a session. There are two wheels and she guided my friend and I amidst great conversation. The space is small and cozy but enough to be distanced while working (we all wore masks). She chooses the glaze on her own and I loved my items when I picked them up. Kelly is a very sweet person and I thoroughly enjoyed the session + her company :)
