We were skeptical coming into Route 23 Honda after seeing all the reviews online, but the RAV4 we were looking at over at enterprise wasn't at the dealer yet, so we decided to head over. At first, we were planning to just take a look and then head back to enterprise after they picked up the car. And I was almost ready to leave after a seemingly cold welcome from Junior. But my mom and brother insisted on a test drive. Junior came along with us and was a really pleasant guy. I definitely had a rough first impression, but Junior quickly turned it around for us, letting my brother do another test drive as he got the paperwork all setup. By the time we got back, Junior didn't waste any time trying to get me with the typical sales tactics "activation fee on a certified car, add-ons, etc." When I told him where I was starting, he immediately went straight to a more realistic number. Within an hour, we had agreed on an OTD price and he looked into the financing and Honda cash incentives that were available to us to help make it work. I paid a little more than I wanted to, but the great service and kind approach that Junior had was worth it. One of my top 3 fastest car negotiations (I've done more than 50 in the last 10 years). Junior was incredibly kind and patient, helping my brother navigate the paperwork and what was needed since it was his first time buying a car. What was really great was how he treated my mom and brother with respect, always answering their questions and asking if they needed any water or coffee as we waited for financing and terms to come through. Dave, his manager also came out to shake my brother's hand and provide us with all the certified pre-owned paperwork and Junior got us in and out of financing with George within 30 minutes. I was very happy that George didn't push when we said no to the extra protection packages (that's how they get you!). I was holding off to post a review until we got our mats (Junior got us the all weather CRV monogrammed ones), worries that they wouldn't honor it. But we had all the paperwork in a USB drive that included the IOU and free lifetime oil changes that came with the car. A week later, we got an email that the mats were in, but we had a new problem - the battery was dead after only 110 miles. We had to jump start the car each time we got in. My brother sent Junior an email, and he texted us back within an hour on July 4th. Despite the holiday and him going on vacation over the weekend, he got us setup with service and informed Dave Bradley (his manager) for the next morning. I stopped by to talk to Dave first thing in the morning, and he kindly helped us out, setting us up with a new battery from service. Maegan helped me out and checked in with me about the status of the battery test when she saw me after finding another customer. I addressing me by name. I thought there was going to be a fight to get service to talk to Dave over in sales, but to my surprise, they had already worked it all out. I just had to hop in the car and go home. Even though there were some bumps along the way, Dave and Junior put all my worries to bed. My fiancé and I visited Route 23 Honda with our friend who needed a new vehicle. We visited on a weeknight and dealt with Sam in sales. I found Sam to be very typical and by that, I mean having a dismissive behavior towards a woman customer. Sam barely acknowledged my friend but was very interested in speaking to my fiancé. I did comment that my friend is the one who is purchasing the car and all communication should be directed towards her, not my fiancé. I was very put off by this and had the purchase been for me, I would have left and gone to another dealership. Alas, my friend is much more patient than I am because I can't tolerate that sort of outdated attitude. This communication by Sam continued throughout our visit and up until we went with my friend to finalize the purchase that weekend. The only saving grace was the wonderful finance manager, Rolando. He was hilarious and refreshingly straight forward so that my friend could make the best decisions for financing her new car. this place is horrible. 6 weeks ago I went there for an oil change and waited 3 hours. After driving the car for 2,000 without, the car started to leak oil. Apparently they tighten the screw too tight and crack the oil pan. When I complained to them, they told me to bring the car to nj (the car was in Long Island) I told them that it was a 2.5 drive back to nj and they were not guaranteeing that they would take responsibility for the damage. I did not want to drive the car and have the engine ruin, and for them to tell me that they would not cover the charges. The salesperson rushed me through the process, made it sound like I was getting a good deal, and only after signing I realized how badly I was misled. Now I'm stuck with a payment way higher than what was promised. They are not transparent, they hide critical details, and they prey on customers who trust them. I've now had two appointments at Route 23 Honda to drop off my car at 11:00am. Both times, I didn't leave until 11:45am. That's nearly an hour just to drop off a vehicle that already has a scheduled time slot. The main issue is Nicole at the service desk. She is incredibly slow and disorganized. She doesn't prioritize based on appointment times, and she takes forever to "gather paperwork" -- paperwork that should absolutely be ready before a scheduled customer walks in. Her attitude is obnoxious, and the inefficiency is astounding. To make matters worse, I brought my car in for a fuel pump recall. After they "fixed" it, my car smelled like gasoline for eight full days. I brought it back, and the team had the nerve to tell me it doesn't smell like gas -- even though it clearly did. I had to push them just to spray something in the car instead of doing absolutely nothing. Their sense of smell (and arguably their intelligence) must have dulled over the years working there, because anyone with a nose could detect it. Walked away from mw and when I asked the receptionist and he came back he started yelling at me "it's not gonna happen" as in me test driving the car because "I said I was going to pay cash." Absolutely fantastic service and Phil is my hero! He went above and beyond. Phil talked to me in the morning and the part was a day away. I explained my family was stranded, we live 4 hours away and my son is missing school. We needed to get home that day so I could get my dog and get my son back in school. I asked if there was anyway he could get the repair that day given the situation....otherwise I would have to rent a u-haul and tow it home myself. He got our car back to us and working by 2pm so we could finally head home and even topped off the fluids in the car and fixed a pesky batter cable to ensure we wouldn't have any more issues getting home. Came into the dealership after scheduling an appointment with the finance department for an issue with my title on a Honda I already owned. I had intended to sell the car and decided while I was there to see what their offer would be. A salesman asked how he could help me I said I had an appointment and the email I received instructed me to ask for Aubrey Powell upon arrival. He said one moment I'll get her for you. A few seconds later I see her step out of her office look over at me then she walked over to a different salesman who she sent to me to inquire what I wanted I told him he said they can't help with my issue and made it clear he was only interested in my car if it was a trade. I cannot say I am surprised at all the negative, 1 star reviews for this dealership. All I have to say is WOW. My boyfriend is searching for a used reliable car, nothing crazy expensive just something to get from point A to point B for now without it breaking down in a year. He was a pleasure to speak to and had a good vibe. However, working with one of the salesman named Andy was a nightmare. Now, comes out David who tells us they got in contact with another bank who can possibly lower the prices....IF we get a co-signer or PUT DOWN $5000!!!!! At this point, we are done. I thank them for their time and we get ready to walk out. David says "is there anyway we can get a co signer? How would you feel about a $450 payment??" As nice as he was, clearly nobody got the point that we're looking to pay that much for that car. Of course, Andy responds, "no we are way out of their price range it's okay". Free oil changes- a great benefit! Was a bit surprised by my bill for tire rotation. Was quoted $39 plus tax. When I went to cashier I was charged $41.55 plus tax. "Why the difference?" Caught the finance guy Efron adding interest to my loan. Do not trust the financing people at Honda. I had a pre approval rate from capital one of 10%. Efron told me after the loan application I was approved from capital one for 10.39%. I checked with capital one to confirm and they said NO, the loan was approved for 8.39%. He was adding interest. Do not finance through this dealership. (Or probably any.) Get your loan from a credit union and take the check to a dealership. I got a loan from a credit union for 6.49%. Bought a used car from these clowns, their doc fees are DOUBLE what they are anywhere else which ridiculous due to the fact that they DON'T PROCESS DOCUMENTS They were supposed to take care of the registration for me which is standard and Im guessing they didn't do the paperwork until I called with 5 days left on the temporary plate and reminded them. I brought my car in to check out an oil leak. The day after getting the car back it seemed to be handling oddly. I made an appointment and was bringing the car to a local mechanic to check it out when THE FRONT LEFT WHEEL FELL OFF. This visit to Rt 23 Honda was strange from the first day after they took it in. I called to see what they found regarding the leak. They apologized and said they didn't have a "technician" to look at it. About three days later they called and said they weren't sure about the source of the leak. They said maybe the cam seal (a part they had previously replaced) or maybe the cam itself. They were very vague. I now know three things: 1. They don't know how to replace a tire. 2. I could have been killed. 3.These guys are totally incompetent. read more

Quoted 4,000 dollars for a repair a local guy did for 100 dollars! Our 2009 Honda Pilot's middle row was not locking in place. We've taken our car here several times and have noticed that the last few times, we were getting told we needed big repairs. We've spent about 7k in the past year alone. Now, I wanted to see if they would repair our seat. The cost? FOUR THOUSAND DOLLARS. We were told that the part needed to be ordered and there was only one in the country and that the seat was irreparable otherwise. Then I said I wanted to speak to a salesperson about just trading it in as I didn't feel the car was worth it. Wouldn't you know that this is THE FIRST time I was ever told by a salesperson to NOT buy a brand new car and just do the repair. INTERESTING. That made me suspicious, so I found a local repair man WHO FIXED OUR SEAT FOR ONE HUNDRED DOLLARS. NO NEW PART. He said that all Honda had to do was realign the bracket. When your check engine light comes on, where do you bring your car? I bring mine to the dealer as they are most knowledgeable on diagnosing the issue - right? I thought so too ... So I bring my Honda in because it's running fine but the dreaded check engine light is on. They diagnose the problem and tell me $500+ to fix. Some obscure fuel related evaporative issue (???) - they also tell me about approximately $1,500 in "service needs" because the car hasn't been in "in a while". I tell the service department I'll pass on the extra services for now and ask them to remediate the engine light. Love it when the dealer hits you with the extras :) I'm busy at work (work in NYC) so don't call them to follow up for 3 days. When I do call, service person says I declined service and picked up the vehicle (???) ... I let them know they're mistaken, I declined the "extras" but asked for the engine light problem to be resolved, so they check and 30 minutes later they call and say they have the car but a part needs to be ordered before they can fix it and will be a few days - they apologize and provide a loaner. Wow, a service department that loses your car - strike 1... Car ready 5 days after I drop it off so I get my car. Within a day of picking up the car, the dreaded check engine light is back on again - strike 2 ... Still busy at work so I drop the car back a few days later and let them know the check engine light is back on. They call the next day and say they apologize, the technician looked at it, that "two wires were crossed" but it's been fixed, reset and test drove. I'm not a mechanical person but this doesn't pass the smell test.... I pick car up right before service department closes - they apologize and assure me problem has been resolved ... Turn on key and now SRS light is on, check engine light is off but within 10 miles of driving the "dreaded check engine" light is on again!!! ... Strike 3! This is what they call service? Car is going back for service and hope they don't cross more wires to resolve the check engine light by inactivating my Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) again. Let's hope they get it right the 4th time and don't cross any more wires to endanger my family! So "Route 23 Honda" stands behind their work right? Well on the 4th visit to resolve the same problem, they mentioned actually the problem was something else!?!?!?!?! Well, $300 later and more work and the problem was resolved. The dealer kept it for the weekend and put 80 miles on the car to ensure everything was in order .... Having a dealer mis-diagnose a problem and put a customer through the number of visits I went through is unacceptable. The service manager ("Lou") was 100% unhelpful. Hey, where's my EZ-Pass tag? It was in the car when I dropped it off. If you prefer unprofessional service, a company that uses questionable business practices, or generally just want to throw your money away, be sure to visit Route 23's service department. I had been a long time customer of Route 23 Honda and sad to say that's not the case anymore. I leased a vehicle from them in June of 2020 and it took them 2 months to finalize the paperwork for funding of the lease. I kept getting excuse after excuse on why there was a delay. Also I am 2.5 months without registration or plates of which I am still waiting on. This isn't how you do business. The transaction was as normal as it could be, negotiate price, agree on price sit around for awhile to confirm paper work and financing, sign papers make payments, walk away. Word of advice for anyone thinking this dealership is reputable. They aren't a reputable dealership, can't keep their word on follow up or call backs or even completing whats required. Went for oil change 6/14/2024 appt time 11:AM . Not completed till 2:40 PM . I had mentioned a very slow leak on a tire on previous visit ( was 1st oil change since bought car new 10/2023) Svc dept stated nothing wrong . Since car bought air pressure dropping about 9 lbs every month or so . I would put air in tire each time . I mentioned it again on this ,the second oil change visit . A tiny pin hole now is mysteriously discovered. Was charged a whopping almost $80 for fix . My complete is who compensates me for all the repeated trips to get air . Was told by (Poppy Carver) svc agent is the going rate for tire removal,loc pinhole patch repair, reinstall tire and balance . Balance !!! In 55 yrs of driving I never did rebalance after flat repair. Whatta sorry ass con .Tire was already removed with tire rotation so why the reinstall fee .If I knew 80 bucks I would have taken the 20 min to plug it myself. Your repair agent was polite but, talked to me like I was some kind of automotive moron. She used the handy inflation price issues as excuse for massive price increases on everything .This is all BS as pricing did not double in past 2 yrs . The customer ( me ) states the fcw ( front collision warning ) light is coming on the dash and that the fcw light will come on while driving. So when I was driving, the car would start to act up. the car would shut off, turn back on, and so forth. The diagnostic ($135.00+tax). they confirmed that it was an issue. I had to ask if I could have a loaner so I could go to work with, and it took a lot, but they finally gave me a loaner. I get a call and the assistance service manager Rudy Espana on 8/13/20 around 8:58 am, stating, "I have an update on your vehicle and that the modulator is on national backorder. Please call back so we can discuss the options" At this time, I was at work so I couldn't answer the phone. At 9:30 am the same day, I get another call stating the same thing he called about the first time. I get time to call back, and we are on the phone, and he states. Yes, the order is on national backorder, and what we can offer is a part from the junkyard, which may or may not work, so if you buy it, and the part doesn't work, it wouldn't be on us. So I said, why would you give me that option if it's a 50/50 chance? I also asked if I could stay in the loaner till my car was ready, and he told me no, I wouldn't be able to. I asked him, "if I drive my car, is it a safety hazard? And he said, " ON PAPER IT STATES, IT IS A SAFETY HAZARD" he went on to say, unfortunately, yes, you would need to take your car back, and that's where all hell broke loose. I asked why you would put me in a vehicle that's a safety hazard? He states that he will contact his upper management to see what they can do and get back to me. I kept explaining to him that if I get back in my car and something happens, god forbid. Like could you imagine driving and the car stops by its self just all of a sudden as if it's normal? This guy was nuts, and I just feel like they are trying to take advantage of me because I'm young. One thing I can say is I don't know how to keep my calm or talk to anyone when I'm pissed. I start cursing and raising my voice, which is entirely not acceptable but come on, don't sit in my face talking to me like I'm stupid. What I've noticed is that people like to do anything to make you happy and forget whatever happened ever happened, and I don't appreciate it at all. I want to say about one month and a half goes by, and I didn't receive any updates on the vehicle. I told these guys to replace a window frame piece, and they told me the one time they called me that the part I bought was bent and all this other stuff. They know I want the that piece fixed. Why the *** wouldn't you order a new one and put it on and tell me you guys replaced it. I brought the car to fix the forward collision warning, oil change, and the piece for the window, but yet it's still not fixed. Not only did they not fix it, but they didn't wash the car nor sanitize the vehicle. Once again, are we not in a COVID pandemic? The plastic and papers were still in my car, and as I said, the piece to my window was still not fixed. I spent $1700 ( the price initially was $2k+ ), but the guy looked me out to still do a *** job. The assistance service manager dealt with me because he knows that I don't like being bull**** and disappointed me. BEWARE, This dealership will rip you off every chance they can get . they wanted to charge me almost $9000.00 for a new transmission and would not warranty it, they told me it was not covered. after taking the Honda to a different Honda dealership, come to find out that the transmission was indeed covered 100 percent under a recall warranty. I really have to wonder if they were going to double dip and charge me for the transmission and then turn around and charge the Honda factory for a warranty. We purchased two new cars from this dealer and was about to buy two more. after what they wanted to do to me , i will never go back to this dealer nor would i recommend the dealership to anyone. Recently got my oil change and paid $44.00 dollars for tire rotation. Marked my tires at work, after service was completed noticed only two tires were rotated. Showed the service manager and he gave me $30..00 off my next rotation.... just sayin !!! read more

I think that people have bad experiences at all kinds of businesses all the time. But for some reason, car dealers get hammered extra hard. Route 23 Honda is an example of a dealer that does things right. I just moved to PA and needed to prove I'd paid sales tax on my Ridgeline. Despite it being extremely busy, they found a way to get me what I needed and Eden had it notarized. Paul in finance and Luis Filipe are above and beyond kinda guys. They really came through, as I was desperate. I needed my truck and without their help I had no plates. I was treated exceptionally well before, during and ESPECIALLY after the sale. And the quarterback of my great experience was Luis. The guy works his butt off, is a straight shooter and actually cares about his customers. He's a great manager and a good person. You can't go wrong with a Honda and you won't do better than Route 23. Seriously. Big thumbs up! read more

Let's get the good out there first: -Dealership was clean, well lit and inviting -The person who helped us was very polite Now the bad: -I recd an online quote (not even the best quote but a reasonable quote) -shortly after I recd an email saying come in fast, we'll beat any quote by $300, and there's no sales tax this month. -I called the email contact and asked about the fees and was told you have to come in and talk to a sales associate. I asked are there any unusual fees or dealer installed options that aren't in the price. Answer was no. Made an appointment. -get to dealership; now I speak to someone that clearly has no idea of any of the promises the dealership has already made. After 15 minutes locating keys and plates and the car we had already inquired about (because why get that car ready in advance when you can waste my time) -go on a test drive and get back to dealer, ready to buy car -now they think it's time to actually start thinking about honoring their commitments! -He asks if I've recd any quotes. Funny, they sent me a quote. Then I add, but you also sent an email, that claimed price will not prevent any sale and that you're waiving sales tax this month and that's why I came out. - long pause while sales person disappears to decide what they can do (it's as if I haven't been in communication with the dealership and they didn't know I was coming). -The salesman returns; is there a contract, an out the door price? Nah, I get an a scribble on the corner of his worksheet (legally that's as valueless as used toilet paper). Because that 25 minutes couldn't have been used to actually give me a price. At this point I'm told they can't beat the comp quote because it's different (yeah they're all different might as well say 2 snowflakes are different). -I say, OK so that's your out the door price, he says no, I say then get me a contract or a formal worksheet with every line from the contract (i.e. Show me what you actually plan on charging) this is met with surprise (what, know your price before buying something, unheard of). -20 minutes later, I get a contract that's littered with extra fees and outrageous overcharges (3k for registration, LOL because $2700 over the cost is even in the realm of reality). But worst of all there's sales tax. -I say, your email said no sales tax, we came out tonight because you're internet sales dept claimed how aggressively they were moving cars. Now I'm told that you have to pay MSRP to get no sales tax (meaning that it's not an offer they intend to give anyone buying a car, just leases because they'll waive whatever nominal tax is on that first contract payment). -I say but the email didn't say that. He says it definitely did, I produce the email and he still denies its validity. (Another pic attached for your amusement) Bottom line they wanted to charge $4,000 more than almost every other Honda dealer in northern NJ that I had contacted (2 were only $3,000 less). I could understand if I had walked in off the street and it was an opening offer, but this was after numerous prior interactions. Every word of this review (as sarcastic as they may be) is 100% true. The staff was polite and welcoming, it's just their business practices that yelpers need to be wary of. I'm sure you can get a good price from them, just don't waste any time thinking they mean anything they say until you get to the dealership. Assume they'll lmake up fees and expenses everywhere and that you'll have to bring your own pad and pen to go back and forth in a confrontational negotiation. Also make sure you ask what every fee or charge is, and then decide if YOU are willing to pay it (because that's how they negotiate). Remember that every sales experience varies and you might have a better experience. But this is dealer that requires extra consumer vigilance. read more
