I stopped by this Wegmans on my way to an airbnb I had reserved near Purcellville to do my shopping…read morefor the weekend. It's a good sized Wegmans, and it's bright, clean, and well-stocked. I often shop at a Wegmans store in the Baltimore suburbs, but we don't allow wine or beer sales at grocery stores in Maryland, so this was the first time I had seen a Wegmans wine selection - and I was impressed. Other than not being able to find chives, I found everything on my list for the weekend. Friendly staff, too! It was a nice store - if I lived nearby, I'd be happy to shop here regularly.

Easy enough to park the Sprinter van in their huge lot after taking care not to drive onto the deck area. The verdict? Five stars of "Wow." She was thoroughly impressed and on top of that, we managed to get out of here without a cart full of snacks. But still, so much to browse on here. Sushi, cheese, fresh grab-and-go heat-and-eat food, great wine and beer including a huge section of non-alcoholic options, pizza, fresh deli, a tremendous produce department and a massive butchery with fresh fish. There's just so much here. And Wegmans doesn't cut out on checkout either. Despite the store being rather busy on this Saturday afternoon, there were plenty of registers open and no queue at the self-checkout. Impressive. Getting out was a little bit of a challenge as Village Market feeds into the small mixed-use "village" they have adjacent. A little bit of traffic here but it moved fast enough that it rates only a small mention. This is the one area where they could improve. [Review 1032 of 2025 - 1516 in Virginia - 24586 overall]

This is a funny part of the world, this Bluemont. It's like a human estuary, where the (you choose…read morewhich should be which) saltwater people meet the freshwater people, where Civil War history mixes with DC commuters, where the old hands meet the new. To me, it seems as if the culture to the east is having its way with the culture that displaced the native Americans and even though this seems somehow fitting at the same time those living here now are the descendants of the robbers and not the robbers themselves and maybe it isn't so fantastic to have a Prius in every other garage after all but what do I know I'm not from these parts and even though I lived for a spell in Appalachia perhaps this is really none of my business. So please take this preamble with a grain of salt. Take what follows more seriously. This is a very cool General Store. It isn't Clem's store and it has staples that appeal more to the freshwater people than the saltwater people (or vice versa depending on the assignment you selected earlier). But so what that's the way it is. The store and Lani the gracious proprietress and her lovely staff and pulled pork sammich they made from good meat they raised I think and smoked themselves saved my life the day after 20 miles on the AT with no supper followed by a morning with no breakfast or water until like an hour after we started walking all thanks to the most insane thunderstorm I've been caught in for a long time and the flammable aspect of tents and that sucked because we were going to have couscous. We had stashed a two-day ration of food at the post office down the street, about a mile from where the AT crosses the main road. I had spied the store the day we dropped the food and thought hmm that place looks pretty cute I better be feeling hella good when we get this cache because if for some reason I'm not the siren song may play and instead of the last leg on the Trail I could find myself on that picnic table under the shade tree eating bbq and sipping on the sweet root beer. Self-control has historically not been my strongest suit. I was not feeling hella good when we arrived in Bluemont. The 55 miles had taken their toll. That no supper no breakfast thing sapped my will. The bbq was the last nail in the pine box into which my desire to slog on had slipped maybe for a short nap but go ahead and fasten that lid I don't really care at this point. We set for a long spell. One of Lani's associates was so sweet to drive us back to Harper's Ferry and the car and we headed back a day early which was all good because the rest of the family was there and we have really only so many days and it's nice to be home too. If you're hiking the AT, biking the byways, doing a little historic tour of the robber's plunder, even if you're driving your Pious to a government job in Foggy Bottom and need a little egg sammy and the coffee to keep you company on the way - the Bluemont General Store I daresay is the place for you. Truth. Thanks Lani. You and your peeps made my day.

Delivered the old fashioned way in glass bottles, no less! Key Lime Pie was great, egg sandwich was decent but the lettuce was soft. Even though Harris Teeter is more attractive than Giant, I have love for this store. Giant has…read morealways been good to me. I've been going to their stores for over a decade in the northeast where they go by "Stop & Shop" but share the same logo. With most of the same products and no fuss shopping experience. They carry a lot of products I can't find at Harris Teeter like pink beans and some international products. They have good deals Always registers open and self checkout always goes quick, and isn't extending into the actual aisles like at Harris Teeter. Always a lot of employees working and familiar faces that have been there for years.

There's one lady that follows people around in the health and beauty section until they leave it or she convinces them to buy something so I try to avoid shopping when she's working, but everyone else is lovely. Shelves are usually well stocked, the produce and deli are great, the store is clean, and the prices are the best you're going to get in Purcellville. The pharmacy, I beg of you go literally anywhere else because they're wildly incompetent. My husband, like most Americans who do not work in healthcare or haven't cared for a chronically ill family member, is somewhat healthcare illiterate and placed his trust (unfortunately) in this pharmacy team. Our 7 y/o has the sniffles so he came into the store asking for Children's Sudafed (the real stuff, not the phenylephrine you can get from the regular aisles.) He was "helped" by Nichole who asked how old his baby was (since when is that age measured in YEARS) and after staring blankly at a shelf of medications, asked someone else for help. The person she asked for help NEVER came to speak to my husband but handed a box of pills to Nichole. My husband didn't even think to verify if it was pills or liquid because *Children's* Sudafed doesn't come in pills. We promptly returned to the store to return the incorrect medication we were sold and the person Nichole asked for help was, disturbingly enough, the pharmacy manager Honorine! Honorine proceeded to snap at us that my husband didn't specify liquid and seemed quite irritated that we were upset with HER med error. Marieta was pleasant in helping us and attempting to process our refund but when she could not, Honorine was called over and SHE had no idea what to do. If someone is a manager, you'd think they'd be able to handle a refund but Honorine continued to display her knowledge deficiency and impatience and had to call a key holder from the front end to handle the refund. Hannah arrived promptly and handled the return well with Marieta. If either Honorine or Nichole had simply said "Sorry, we don't carry/are out of stock/don't have Children's Sudafed," my husband and I could have moved in to another store but they were so greedy to make an unnecessary sale, they wasted everyone's time and energy while demonstrating a gross unprofessional conduct and ineptitude along the way. Thousands of fatal medication errors occur in the US annually and millions of non-fatal errors occur every month--I wonder how many come from this pharmacy. TLDR: Giant's great overall but I'd sooner drive to another state than EVER trust their pharmacy again, even with the simplest transactions. Of note, while some children as young as five or six can take pills with some coaching, it has not gone well with my child in the past and especially when she's got a sore throat, it would have been a lost cause. Hence why we asked for the *CHILDREN'S* version, which only comes in liquid. :)

I'd drive 500 miles for their little bake shop treats. Not really 500 miles but yes, we did drive…read more50 miles. Their blueberry pies are such a hidden gem. They bake their pies on premise. I always call in an order so my pie is hot and fresh when I pickup. There are also pies on the counter for sale but if you want a specific guaranteed flavor just phone in your order. The blueberry crumb pie is so delicious, the crumbs are sweet with a KH or crunch. The blueberries ooze with blueberries. I also picked up some Nalls cookies. A packet of 5-6 cookies for $4.99 and they are soft and fresh. There's also a section of fresh produce. Staff is always friendly and patient. Parking is right in front. They are located right off Harry Byrd hwy.

Everything is fresh, ready to be taken home. I was thinking peanuts, last time they had cans of Virginia peanuts. I grabbed a couple cans for giving at Christmas time. The smell of the pies baking stopped me for a minute...nothing like a fresh baked pie. They're not small like in the grocery store...it's a family sized pie. Apple, cherry, blueberry..too many choices. I decided on blueberry crumb. It was warm when I picked it up!. Ok time to hit the road, I'm feeling like pie and a little ice cream. I paid and was gone. When I was home it was some of the best pie I have ever had. Definitely recommend for fresh vegetables, nuts and fresh baked pie. You can't go wrong. I think the market is seasonal...not really sure. Maybe go online to check hours in the colder months.
