The British Pride Bakery provides an excellent showcase of British baked goods. The savoury pies…read morewith the traditional-style flaky top are delicious and easy to cook or reheat. The scotch pies are an amazing option too. The scones are another bakery highlight, though they look oversized, as if Canadianized, they're still crumbly and tasty like British scones should be. The store also includes a vast array of other British products including Pot noodle, chocolate, canned soup, shortbread, crisps, etc. Go check it all out and get yourself a treat or two!

Since the closure of But'n Ben Scottish bakery in Pickering, there hasn't been another bakery to get good meat pies from. This bakery replaced a Wimpy's diner and I was curious to see how they would manage such a large space for a bakery. The store is well laid out with fridges and freezers that line the store, jam packed with delicious oven ready meals and hard to find eats. There are also isles stocked with jams, coffee, tea, pot noodles, biscuits and snacks from the old country. And in-store baked breads are spread out on tables near the display cases. I picked up 6 assorted meat pies and some Queen Victoria's during this visit and shared them with my family. I don't often make meat pies anymore as the kid still has yet to develop the taste for it, but for the adults in the family, this was a lovely treat to pick up several different flavours to sample (chicken pot pie, steak and gravy, steak and mushroom). We enjoyed our selection of pies and the dessert and look forward to returning to try out more delicious eats!

Bakeries are scare in Pickering, and this one is a hidden gem on Bayly Street with plenty of…read moreparking. They have a wide variety of breads and baked goods, but they seem to specialize in rye, whole wheat, dinner rolls, hamburger and hot dog buns, as well as sausage rolls. The Marble Rye instantly appealed to me for it's vivid, 2-tone, swirly appearance. It's as close to psychadelic as a bread experience could ever be. Of course, I had to order it! I also ordered some hamburger buns. Both were extremely tasty and super fresh. The rye does not have a sour taste at all, so if you are looking for a denser, sourdough style rye, the Breadhouse rye is probably not what you are looking for. But if you want a very cool looking rye that is light, fluffy, but with a decent crust, then look no further. Next time, I will try the sausage rolls and butter tarts (either plain or raisin). You can order a cake from them as well. Staff are friendly, courteous, and know their product well. You can order for pick-up if you want to speed things along. This is definitely worth the trip. Thank you, Breadhouse, for helping to fill a nearly-empty niche in Pickering! I'll be back.

I tried the birthday slice to see if I wanted to order a large for my son's bday. It tasted like boxed cake. Kinda disappointing. Same with the very average oatmeal cookie and cake pops. They open very late (like 2am) so kinda a hang out spot but the area is pretty quiet. Given the amount of options I'm willing to try again. Hopefully twice is a charm!

Better late than never lol this place is amazing and has a crazy variety of baked goods starting from pastries, croissants, cookies, birthday cakes, customized cakes, to ice creams and sundaes, salads and even savoury items. There are a few tables to sit and enjoy your treat as well. Oh and did I mention they also have coffee and beverages? Insane how much variety they have in the store. We tried their mousse (I forgot what the name was) and it was layered with cream, chocolate cake, brownie bites and chocolate sauce and tasted so good! Their cafe mocha is also quite delicious and I was surprised that it was only $5.5 - much cheaper than what you get downtown. The ice cream sundae was my boyfriend's favourite. It was loaded with brownies, vanilla ice cream and even a cone stuffed in. This was such a great find in Scarborough and I highly recommend people to try it!

Last Wednesday, I was at Woodside Square's food court, having an early dinner thanks to Beef Noodle Slurp. Next to this food stall was Baker Duck. I have been to the original Baker Duck at Denison Centre, which is close to my home. It was nice to visit its second location. I looked at the sign saying that if my items totalled at least $15, I could use my credit card to pay. I rarely have cash on me. Spending $15 was easy. The sour note to my visit was a female staffer to brought out three different baking trays with baked goods and managed to poke me with each them. Really? Coincidence or targeted weirdness? I don't know. I could have been nasty and tripped her. Then again, I wouldn't stoop to her level of stupidity. My haul consisted of these items: - Grilled cheese with pork floss - Egg salad bun - Tempura curry beef bun - Pork floss and bacon bun - Hot dog bun - Curry beef bun - Curry beef puff I got a different woman who helped cash me out. She was great putting my items in a bag. Each item was in its own bag. I appreciated it, as I saw some small flies going at the sesame balls. I paid with a credit card. I tapped and was done. I thanked the woman, grabbed my goodies, and headed to my car. On the whole, I loved everything that I ate. I didn't realize that I went hard on curry beef, but it's delicious. I should get the BBQ pork bun next time. The grilled cheese with pork floss around the crust was yummy and unique. It was the surprise item out of the bunch. I make a lot of egg salad. This egg salad was a bit bland. It also had iceberg lettuce, which could have been omitted. Not horrible. It just needed more flavour. I'm glad that I can say that I've been to both Baker Duck locations. Here's hoping that tray woman get her tray-poking issues fixed. (425)
