2 1/2 years ago I had rotor rooter, come in and fix a wast pipe in my basement. They also did the water remediation in all it was probably about a four to $5000 job. The pipe that was leaking was an old corroded copper waste pipe, when the plumber came in, he replaced an 8 inch section of pipe. He failed to recognize (or tell me, not sure which one) that the rest of the copper pipe was probably also corroded, as it is normal for a 50 year old pipe.
At this point, due to the water damage, my finished basement walls were all taken down. To replace the extra 4 feet of pipe would've been very easy, and would've cost pennies more. Instead, he replaced an 8 inch section of leaking pipe that was connected to a clearly corroded copper pipe.
I had my basement refinished, about a $40,000 job, not knowing that I had a ticking time bomb in my wall that any plumber could see was a foreseeable problem and at best would last a few years.
Well, it finally leaked, and now I have a huge job on my hands, because the wall is no longer enclosed, and the job involves removal of huge chunks of sheet rock in bathroom wall.
Spoke to many people over at Roto router, and basically they said too bad, pipe was not leaking when we left it. And to add insult to injury, they sent the salesman down to try and get the remediation job out of us again.
Save the time and money, hire a real plumber, not the hacks at rotor rooter read more
