But I was off to Dr. German's (Grrr-man), which is waving distance from my brother's house in the hometown. I showed up a little early to fill out paperwork and sat amongst my peers for the day... Dr. G was saying that he went to the bicentennial of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. Everyone else waiting was probably at the original signing. No spring chickens at this office. But I was in, I was out, I was on my way to their recommended pharmacy. Dr. G and his assistant (phlebotomist?) Courtney made me laugh, the latter with her good personality and small talk, the former with his gruffness (he walked into my room and said "so what, are you sick?" Ha.) which I have always found charming. He's not your average feel-good city doctor I'm accustomed to, but all in all pretty good. The burden is on you to do everything (e.g., check insurance coverage with referrals, fax medical records, update their office listings in insurer's directories), so I wouldn't trust physicians who don't check for quality in the staff they hire to do nothing to attract and retain patients except make their lives miserable simply because they can get away with it. I'll take family's health and business elsewhere. Someone who treats patients this poorly can't possibly reflect well for the physicians caring about someone's health if they let this pass for customer care. I never feel like I'm imposing when I call the office. Many doctor's offices have extremely rude stuff but not this one. There is one point I'd like to bring to light - the office is stuck in the late 90s/early 2000s as far as technology and service. They don't have the capability to submit prescriptions to a pharmacy electronically which is a GIANT pain. I have to budget an extra hour to any visit in case something is prescribed in order to drive to the pharmacy, stand in line, and hand them a paper prescription. THEN I have to drive back later to pick it up because I don't have time to hang out in the pharmacy for an hour while it is filled. It feels like the 1970s to me. Every doctor I've been seeing since 2005 submits electronically and many times the order is filled within the hour for easy pick up later at my convenience. As far as I know, New York state law mandates all prescriptions must be submitted electronically (to prevent drug abuse) so I'd be interested in what exemption this office is using to get out of the mandate. Secondly, they don't seem to have the ability to accept bill payments via the internet. In 2022! They want you to mail in a piece of paper with your credit card information or call them over the phone to give them your credit card information - not very secure, convenient, or modern at all.
