I had a FANTASTIC experience at Mahoney's Garden Center in CONCORD, MASS. I had a goal to buy…read moreindoor house plants, and recognize I am not yet good at keeping plants alive. Here is why I rate it 5 stars. (1) HISTORY OF GOOD SERVICE. Based on a good experience at this very store about 3 years ago (and yes that plant is still alive & thriving, even with my poor skills) I returned on Saturday. (2) IMMEDIATE HELP FROM AN ENTHUSIASTIC CREW I went to this Mahoney's with a friend who is excellent with plants, and we walked through the entire enormous greenhouse/garden center to identify what plants I liked, and what we thought may be a fit in terms of size, care, access to light, price, etc. Once we had our "list" I asked for assistance. First, there was a SUPER FRIENDLY young man, (Logan I believe?) and he IMMEDIATELY was incredibly enthusiastic about plants. With an encouraging tone, he personally guided us through the store and show us his favorites and why he thought I could manage them. As our conversation deepened, he immediately connected me with gardeners there who could better help. Mahoney's is incredibly lucky to have such a welcoming employee as this one. (3) EXCEPTIONAL ADVICE FROM NATALIA. We were BLOWN AWAY by the energy, knowledge, competence, patience, and follow-through from NATALIA in the Mahoney's in Concord. She was down to earth, did not rush us, and personally walked us through the store as well. She listened to my needs, looked at a few photos of my room/space and provided creative solutions and helped steer me away from plants that she thought would not thrive in my space, while directing me to others that she felt convinced would look great. I am not kidding. I bought 6 plants, and my friend who was NOT planning to buy a plant, bought one too. That's how awesome Natalia is. I am impressed with her follow-through, personalized service and advice. Natalia was SO AWESOME I had to stop what I was doing to write this review. BRAVA Natalia, and THANKS TO YOU & the Mahoney Garden Center Concord. AWESOME experience and you have TRANSFORMED my rooms!!!

Beautiful Perennials, Annuals, & Shrubs have all remained healthy, & instructions for optimal growth are attached. Convenient location right on Concord Rd is a bonus. Wandering the lanes -- with such a sumptuous range -- reminds me that "Joy is not meant to be a Crumb".* Need To Know: Many plants include valuable details, such as: Attractive to Pollinators; Repels Mosquitoes; No deadheading blossoms required; Deer Resistant; 6-8 hours of Direct Sun needed. Good to know. More Planting Info: Because most Plants are arranged by category in beautifully marked lanes -- sun, shade, perennial, annual, native -- finding fundamental info is simple. More details are always easily found online, too. Goats! Visiting sweet & frisky rescue goats Ben & (yep!) Jerry is a pleasure: climbing rocks, munching hay, encouraging petting. Ah! Simple fauna pleasures among so many floral treasures. Dear elderly Fluffernutter is a goat 90 in human years, enjoying attention as a sweet-natured senior. Planting Questions Rating: I remain so puzzled by negative comments about customer service. I've found help to be accessible, valuable, & informative, even near closing time & when especially busy. My questions would annoy most nurseries, but planting instructions included are not always specific enough. Examples of rookie questions that have been answered pleasantly, even by phone: My Rookie Questions: How may I plant autumn Tulip bulbs that won't be devoured? (Consider Daffodils.) Will 'Million Bells' (Calibrachea) need to be covered if nights dip below 45? (Depends. Is location sheltered?) Can Pansies tolerate light frost? (Yes.) What should soil temperature remain to plant spring tubers for glorious Dahlias? (50° F. or warmer.) Impatiens? (60° F. lowest). What I Don't Ask: I only ask questions if not clearly marked on plant -- yet extra info provided helps, like knowing newly-planted Dahlia tubers do need watering if rain penetration depth is insufficient. (Want Dinner-Plate Dahlias in August? Stick a finger into soil an inch or so in spring. Dry? Tuber or plant needs more water: Rain wasn't enough.) Addendum: I have not purchased trees or landscaping materials, so cannot judge customer service for them. Quality & selection appear exceptional, & friends who have bought them were happy with results. Summary? I Love New England Nurseries. _________________________________ * Quote: Mary Oliver poem: "Joy is not meant to be a Crumb."

I see that a couple other reviewers had the same experience as well so it doesn't seem to be a one-off moment. We came here for a Christmas tree and were pleasantly surprised by the selection (December 7th) of really good quality trees and lower prices compared to other places we've bought from in the past (ranging from $60-$80ish). Of note they take cash or check only, they do have an ATM, and the prices listed are a few dollars short of the actual price you'll pay. The teenagers working at the tree stand were very pleasant and got a fresh cut on the tree and strapped it to our car securely and efficiently. The turn for the worse came when we went to pay. The women was talking to us like we were children which was very odd and belittling (hard to portray tone but for example when I handed her the cash she went '$70, oh good job!') then when handing me back change she goes 'and your change to the food pantry?' and drops my change in a donation bucket before even finishing the question...I literally was reaching my hand out to receive the change and she just decided not to give it to me or let me answer the question. I was honestly pissed off about that. It's my money to choose what to do with and socially, how rude is it to put people in a position to have to fish their change out of a donation bin if they hadn't wanted to donate it? Overall, the woman at the checkout really tainted this place for me by straight up not giving me my change back and I don't plan to return.
