I was even told I couldn't charge my phone in the lobby while it was on 2%, after I explained how serious and dangerous my situation actually is. Do you realize how carelessly you put someone's safety at risk over appearances? I had ridden a motorcycle in the rain just to get there. I wasn't wearing makeup, my hair was a mess, and I'm struggling to survive -- not trying to "look good" for a business. What if my abuser had been waiting outside in the parking lot? Thank God that wasn't the case this time, but for many domestic violence victims, that is the reality. Turning someone away or denying basic humanity because they are struggling is unacceptable. What kind of business treats vulnerable people this way?

We had booked the Old Caledonian and had an absolutely amazing stay. Since there's not many dining options in the area, we added on a made to order dinner, which ended up being the best meal during our weeklong trip in Missouri. The grounds are absolutely beautiful with a flowering garden, gazebo, magnolia tree, koi pond, hot tub and sauna. We spent our evening out in the yard watching fireflies and listening to their fountain. Inside, every corner is packed with antiques and vintage charm. Most rooms feature a bathtub but to shower (at least in the upstairs rooms,) there is a communal bathroom. We happened to be the only guests so it was fine. It also featured a library with plenty of books to read and board games to play. The owners were absolutely lovely people and cooked us wonderful meals, delivered with attentive service. We were able to make requests for vegetarian food and they prepared a delightful veggie curry and green goddess quinoa bowl for dinner. For breakfast we were served yogurt and fruit, veggie quickie and some lovely homemade scones. There are their own handmade lavender products for sale as well. Beds and pillows were super comfy and they had some great green tea bath products for use. We had such a magical time enjoying the early summer in Caledonia and the folks here were such a big part of that. Upon booking, you choose your room. My room was great, the mattress perfect, the claw foot tub was amazing, mini fridge, WiFi, Keurig, everything I needed in one room and tastefully decorated! Downstairs there was a library with board games and books. A yoga studio upstairs. Hot-tub and sauna in the back of the property. Breakfast was freshly made and also to note, one of the best parts of my birthday getaway. The inn keepers were super welcoming and hospitable, making for a warm, comfortable birthday stay. The family rents a cabin, drives in from all directions, spends several days, then departs til next Thanksgiving. This year we mostly rode horses and painted ceramics in the Arts & Crafts studio, but there are plenty more activities for guests to participate in. The All-Inclusive resort's food is okay, it's nourishing and inclusive of a variety of diets. It's cafeteria style so you get to decide for yourself. Our cabin was large, warm and very accommodating for our extended family. Although there are no TV's, the internet access was adequate to stream movies on a projector tv. But we try to get everyone to disconnect during the day.

When we arrived at check-in, it was super easy to get checked in and everyone was very kind. They have a store with some small items if you forgot anything. The owners live on site and they let me and my kids go visit their puppies and play in the puppies area/run house. They are very kind and spoke to us often throughout. They even offered to go to the store to pick AA batteries for us and a couple other things instead of us going to the store and purchasing it from them directly that was very kind and going above. The only reason for the four star is, I did call them to get additional towels for the cottage house we rented. Whoever answered the phone had hesitation in their voice, and seemed annoyed that I was asking for extra towels. They asked how many people were in our party because they saw a lot of people.kitchen told them yes we rented the cottage house +3 primitive cabins we had a large party, but we were not over using any space. He thought hesitation in his voice and I explained to him we only had two towels and he was more than welcome to come check if he doubted us he said oh that's strangely usually put four or five in the house I said well, they didn't then they offered to bring more as much as we all spent for the entire weekend. It was a little frustrating how we were treated in that specific scenario. They had paddle boats you could rent and we rented two. It was a decently priced 35 for four hours. They also have horseback riding and a couple other things that you can pay additional for. The cottage was fully stocked. As fas as hiking, this summer weather is pretty hot and humid, therefore I was not able to hike as far as I wanted to. I definitely want to return here again for the view. It gives us another option vs going to a park every year for their birthday parties. We love the park, but it's nice to switch things up. This gym is clean, huge, is filled with friendly employees, offers plenty of parking, sells snacks and drinks, is perfect for parties (as it has 4-5 huge tables for cake/presents/decorations/etc), and if you decide not to decorate - that's fine too, because it already looks decorated! It's an easy solution for a last minute party planner (I'm speaking from experience lol). It's also priced fairly, and we loved having the gym to ourselves. 5 stars isn't enough. I highly recommend this business!
