Without going into the medical history that led to my nephew's life in constant pain, his nearly 20 surgeries, and his inability to continue to work as a firefighter- after only a year on the job of his dreams, he was now faced with serious and life threatening dental problems resulting from the potent drugs administered throughout his teens. There would need to be fillings, crowns, and numerous extractions. There would need to be hours of work performed on a patient in a compromised state of health, and it would be extremely costly. His doctors at the University of Chicago suggested he apply to Dental Lifeline, a network of compassionate and humane dentists and laboratories that volunteer to treat people with permanent disabilities who lack the income to pay for the urgent dental care they desperately need. After waiting and hoping for a response, our prayers were answered. Dr. Friedstat volunteered to help us and give Rob a real chance to smile- and eat normally again. The moment we stepped in that office, Joy welcomed us with genuine warmth and concern. She made Rob extremely comfortable and let us know we were in good hands. The first moments are so critical when you enter a doctor's office; we were immediately comforted and put at ease. We never felt like we were a burden, in fact, the staff seemed so motivated to help correct the problems that we were immediately filled with a great sense of relief and HOPE! Dr. Friedstat not only thoroughly examined and analyzed Rob's dental problems, but he spoke at length about the many health complications brought on by his years of battling Crohn's disease. He was interested in the treatments and the pain management issues Rob endured, and though this was part of his diligent work as a professional, he discussed things with the heart of a father. He is so intelligent and so confident that it inspired both Rob and I, and we felt lucky to have him as our dentist. It has been several months of appointments- some lasting 2 hours or more- and Dr. Friedstat was even able to save some of the teeth that other dentists warned would require extraction. His gums are healed and his last crown fitted, and he has been measured for partial dentures. All this work was done without complication, without pain, and by the hands of a skilled and experienced doctor. Finally, I write this to anyone looking for a dentist that they can trust to do expert, thorough, and incredibly skilled work- without fear or pain. This is the…read moredental practice where you can go in, get your teeth cleaned or a cavity filled and actually fall asleep in the dental chair. I know because I've done it. They are that gentle. Dr. Tom seems to have the latest dental technology that can really help catch cavities early. He has a new x-ray machine that makes x-rays a lot more comfortable than those old bite wings. Another technology he has used that really benefited me was the ability to avoid using a crown in certain situations. A few years ago, I had a cavity in a tooth right next to where I previously had a silver filling from long ago. He really needed to drill a lot to get the filling out and to repair that new cavity. This is the type of thing that normally he would need to use a crown. However Dr. Tom explained to me that he had a machine where he could essentially make a 3d puzzle piece for the hole and put it in if I had a little extra time. We could do it in one visit instead of two and it was actually less expensive than a traditional crown. I agreed and have had no issues with his solution. I went in yesterday for a cavity repair and received exactly the same treatment as in the past. I didn't even feel the needle with the numbing medicine. They use a topical to make you comfortable. The staff also make sure to tell you what to expect before they do it. Everyone is friendly and genuinely interested in you and your dental health. They are located near Wolf Circle and very close to a bus and train station. There is ample street and lot parking near the office.

Dr Simon is fast doing the dental procedures and her assistance works seamlessly with her, which works so great for the short focus span for kids. Unlike our last dentist, Dr Simon doesn't put on anesthesia and walk away.
