This business started life around six months ago (summer 09) as Clay Plate where they focussed on clay-oven based dishes like turkish pizza, Pide, Lahmacun and Meze dishes. They have recently re-branded as 'Ocakbasi', done away with the clay oven and replaced it with a Charcoal Grill. Although I was a big fan of their previous set-up, the re-brand is a very welcome change with a focus on grilled meat and kebab dishes. Décor is quaint, perhaps a little eccentric, with lampshades fashioned from old kitchen utensils, but the atmosphere is pleasant. Waitresses are way above benchmark, and me and my friends all have our favourites! Prices for an evening meal sit in the £10-£20 range but i've never been for dinner. You can usually pick up a decent lunch in here for less than a fiver including a drink. Definitely recommended for Edgware locals and visitors alike. Do it.

The value is super also, you will be hard pressed to spend more than £30 per couple and can easily do much less. None of us could remember the number but it didn't matter because the each dish looked (and for the most part tasted) exactly the same. My friend ordered the mixed grill with aubergine, but there was no aubergine anywhere to be seen. For dessert they brought out a platter of fruit with an orange carved out to look like a face with a candle inside - this was clearly not the first platter the orange had seen that evening. A hollowed out pineapple had some fresh but mostly canned fruit. As we were waiting for the bill, the enthusiastic if off-key live singer suddenly took off his jacket and tie to announce the arrival of the belly dancer. She did a little act with a sword, and then proceeded to grab men from the audience to dance with her, some of which complied and stuffed bills down her bra. Keeping it classy, Efes. The waiter did not speak a lot of english. Communication was a little skewed. My favourite dish - Beef Fry - is not on the menu. But I ask for it and get it - no problems. I haven't asked them why beef dishes aren't on the menu but their best dish from what I have had would be the beef fry and Kerala Porotta. Happy Unhealthy-ness.
