My mother passed away recently and we decided to have her cremation and memorial service handled by Rose Hills. The cremation was done at the main location in Whittier and the memorial service was held at the Alhambra branch. All of the staff were very patient, understanding and helpful. They were able to help with all of the requests that we had and on top of that were very quick to get back to us with responses. The memorial service went smoothly and without a hitch, thanks to the funeral director and staff at Rose Hills that day. If you decide to hold a service here make sure to let all the invitees know that this is the Alhambra location; most people only know about the main Rose Hills cemetery in Whittier. IF YOU PLAN ON WORKING WITH THIS BRANCH, PLEASE REQUEST AN ARRANGER THAT MAINTAINS BASIC HUMAN EMOTIONS AND SKILLS. I can't believe I am even writing this after my BABY SONS funeral service. I'm still VERY LIVID how our service was handled. Our Arranger HENRY CHAN, lacked the basic skills of guiding us on our sons service. We were in the dark majority of this process. Please keep in mind, this is our first time coping with funeral planning so OBVIOUSLY we don't know what to expect nor do we know how planning a service consists of. Tell me why our arranger never ASKED us what type of service we envision? Why did WE have to ask him what type of service they recommended doing since we are non-religious? All he offered to us was a catalog of Urns and Casket STILL without explaining anything to us KNOWING our son is a BABY whom passed. We were given ZERO guidance on this whole experience. I understand we're in a pandemic but that does not excuse ANYONE in this business to handle the things we experienced!! Less than 24 hours before our sons service, we weren't told if we should bring in photos or flowers or ANYTHING of that nature. In tears and frustration, the entire family had to haul ass last minute to gather everything in time. On top of this, on the day of my sons cremation I requested to see him one last time and was DENIED that when our arranger promised us we were able to see him!! WHY DID WE PAY FOR THIS SERVICE IF IT CANT BE FULFILLED? It's been a few weeks since this horrible experience and NO management has reached out to us on this matter. I will NEVER recommend rose hills on their lack of empathy or to any grieving family who is seeking a funeral home to work with. read more

Did not seem to show any compassion to help me and my family in my time of need. We asked for help to place my mother's ashes into a piece for my father for mother's day this year, and they refused to help us saying we had to go to the original place we got the cremation done (which was closed so how could we go) and was obviously NOT TRUE because we went to CABOT AND SONS in Pasadena and that is the place to go. They showed kindness and understanding to us and no hesitation to help. Rose hill did not help us and just turned us away. They have low reviews for a reason and Cabot and sons has 5 stars! read more

We have been here several times as our friends and family members passed. This time around, it was to say goodbye to a dear family member. Because we've been here before, we knew exactly who we wanted to work with. Prior to the service, we met with our advisors to discuss dates, timings, and what we needed to prepare for the transition to go smoothly. We often consulted with Stanley who was extremely knowledgeable in our traditions. He has a very pleasant demeanor which made it easy to work with during this difficult time. On the day of the service, we gathered together in the Lotus Room. He and the other members of the staff did their best to make things go smoothly. Although there was some confusion at times, they did their best to remediate it. Overall, the folks at the Rose Hills Alhambra office were fairly pleasant to work with. There are several viewing locations to choose from and a decent amount of parking located in the back. We greatly appreciated their assistance. read more

Today upon visiting the office we were greeted (if you call it that) by a not so nice male at the front. We were a couple minutes early to our scheduled appointment and the male made it seem like we were late and/or that it was an issue we were a few minutes early. We were asked to sit in the waiting area and he basically started asking questions related to the services in a very dry and non empathetic manner. He asked if we've picked out clothing and for our IDs (no explanation why) and automatically assumed my mother will be making decisions which was incorrect. We then asked if we would be put in a room, as he was discussing arrangements with us, while still in the waiting area. We then get called in to see the "counselor" Claudia and she was just as rude and non-empathetic, she started reading documents and harshly pointed out errors and went very back and forth on 'well you can't do this, you need that, who is making decisions' just being very harsh. There was no welcoming or explanation of the process or desire to truly help our mourning family. I don't know if she thinks we plan funerals all the time and know the routine or if she's just a vile person that would treat her family the same way. The overall environment here was not tailored to people outside of the Asian culture, as there was only traditional Asian clothing on display. Which isn't welcoming to Alhambra residents, who are not of Asian decent, and appears culturally insensitive. We ended up walking out without finalizing anything and we will bring this complaint to all of the major business entities because they're clearly only in this business for financial gain. The opening line, "I'm sorry for your loss" stated by staff is absolutely meaningless when the actions and attitudes following the statement are inconsiderate and show no empathy and compassion for families in this difficult time. read more

The most basic service a funeral home should provide is treating its grieving clients in a professional, considerate, appropriate manner. Rose Hills-Alhambra was sorely lacking this. When my family came in to sign paperwork for my mother's cremation, they made us sit in the public waiting area with other clients where they then harassed my dad (in a very condescending way) about not bringing in the proper ID papers for my mom. When they finally ushered us into a private room, it was the arrangement counselor Mr. Chan's messy office filled with bags of people's stuff haphazardly stashed behind the desk. Deceased people's stuff, from what I could tell. No respect for the dead. Unacceptable. We had to sit there for over an hour, watching Mr. Chan type up the paperwork for my dad to sign -- paperwork that could easily have been prepared beforehand. Mr. Chan kept making mistakes and having to re-type stuff and re-print pages. We even had to sit there while he got up, unwrapped a new ream of paper, and loaded it into the printer. So unprofessional! Meanwhile, Mr. Chan told us we needed to ID my mom's body before the cremation, via streaming video from their storage facility in Whittier. The prospect of this was so upsetting to my dad that he started crying. But what should've been a two-second process became forty minutes of torture when there were "technical difficulties" with the video feed. Mr. Chan kept insisting that technicians were fixing it. He kept telling us to wait... and wait... and wait. It was agony for my father. We finally told them we were leaving and asked Mr. Chan to call us when the video was working again. It wasn't repaired until DAYS later. The worst part about all this was not his incompetence, but his attitude. He had a brash and off-putting manner, giggling at inappropriate moments and showing no regard for the fact that we were all in a fragile emotional state. My mother had just died two days before, and this man was saying, "Now let's talk about money" with a creepy little laugh. It's a horrifying feeling to know that your loved one's remains are in the hands of these people. read more

2 MONTHS LATER... I haven't heard from anyone from rose hills. We called to get an update on the plaque and they said they didn't get an approval on the layout. ARE YOU SERIOUS??? I have the email where I approved it AND their confirmation reply. IS THIS FORREAL? Im completely flabbergasted LONG REVIEW WARNING: I'm so disappointed. Everybody in my family has a spot at rose hills. They're really good as long as you have no complaints or concerns. And seriously, when you're dealing with a death and when they charge you $$$$$ then you're bound to have concerns. At our meeting regarding my grandfathers death, we were told that we would have an organ player playing an ORGAN if we paid $125. That's a hefty price tag just for music for a couple of hours. But for my grandpa, an organ player sounded nice and worth the stretch of $$. So we decided on paying the $125. At the service, I was waiting for an organ to start playing but I saw no one. Instead, I heard music playing but it wasn't an organ. Initially, I thought it sounded like recorded music. I asked the director and he said that someone was playing the ELECTRONIC KEYBOARD in the back room. I'm sorry, but I didn't pay $125 to hear an electronic keyboard. I could've brought my own music or hired my own pianist to play a keyboard. I emailed our coordinator Claudia after the funeral addressing my concern. I told her that I thought we would have an organ playing (which was what she promised us) but an electronic keyboard was being played instead. Honestly, it's not a big deal, but I felt a little ripped off so I had to address my concerns. She was very understanding at or initial meeting so I thought she would understand and work with me. All I really wanted was an explanation. This was the email I got back. "Dear Dorothy, I can assure you that our musicians do not play recorded music unless only requested by the family. They play the actual organ in the chapel, you may not necessarily seen the person because they have an inside room where the organ is." Not sure why she wrote that when I said it SOUNDED like recorded music I didn't say they PLAYED recorded music. And again, she said they played an organ when they didn't. I emailed her back explaining just that. I said if I paid $125 for the electronic keyboard then fine, but I just felt like I wasn't getting what was promised. I get an email for the keyboardist.... Apologizing! She said claudia told her that I had a problem with her!! I had to explain to her that it wasn't her and she didn't have to apologize for doing her job. She was really nice and I told her to direct me to someone who can help. She said claudia would be The one but she try someone else. It's been a week and I have not heard from anyone yet. Are you kidding me???!! We pay top dollars and we can't even get the simplest customer service. SMDH read more

We've been to Rose Hills a few times over the years - They were the funeral home our parents chose to use, and so by default Rose Hills was the funeral home we chose to use. That said, they really were excellent to work with. Many people fear/complain that they get the hard upset at funeral homes, but that definitely wasn't the case with Rose Hills. They listened to what we wanted and didn't pressure us at all, simply abiding by our wishes and helpfully escorting us through the necessary paperwork. read more

I called about a funeral to leave a message and their answering service refused to take the message ... after identifying themselves as an answering service. Then the answering service called me back on my private line to harass me and imply that my faith is somehow lacking. This is certainly no way to establish first contact for this kind of service!
