It's the Robb Report for Traders, written in the tone of Maxim. A magazine for Wall Street boys who want to live large & rub it in your face. We're talking large watches, large egos & large appetites. Fat meals for those living the phat life. I'm not kidding. Each installment introduces you to a new 5,000 calorie meal (per person). I wonder, however, where they are going to find women who will eat 500 grams of fat in one sitting. When the magazine first launched, each issue featured "Trader Daters". The section has since disappeared. Maybe the current batch of men prefer cars over women... As the Porsche advertisement reads, "trophy wives require a lot more maintenance." With multi-million dollar bonuses, you would think they could afford both. But anyway... It's an entertaining magazine for Masters of the Universe to keep tabs on the industry & culture. (Read: Compare themselves to each other. I'm doing so much better than X, I aspire to be Y & why hasn't Z been arrested, yet?) Or in their own words: "Trading is more than a job. I actually watched the movie first, and fell in love with it. Julia Roberts was fabulous. I then went on to read the book. I have lost count on how many times I have read the book now. I just LOVE IT. The book inspires me on all levels. It inspires me to look within, to learn, to discover, to live out of the box, to laugh, to eat, to be myself, and of course to travel. I have been very fortunate to have been able to do so much travelling already. Bali is one of my favourite places in the world. And don't get me started on Italy....: Eat, Pray, Love is a must read. It is the transparent journey of an everyday woman from a life of lack and emptiness to a life of self-discovery, self-love and purpose :).

I came upon this book by chance and I feel that it has helped me to not only grow a bit, but to understand the importance of being at peace with myself. The writing in the book was exquisite as the author literally allows you to take a walk in her shoes. Through allowing you to do this she also allows you to understand that being unbalanced (at times) is merely a necessary part of a balanced life. I loved that the author not only took the time to write her own story, but also the stories of those individuals she met along her journey, as this allows the reader to relate to various elements of the story. In sum, Eat, Pray, Love was a delight to read! (Although, it may at times cause an unnatural desire to eat)

This Black-owned gallery consistently has relevant, thought-provoking art by an array of artists, in multiple mediums. Their shows are cohesive and colorful, with a strong, clear message. The staff here is always welcoming and willing to discuss the art more deeply with you. I love visiting any place that features Black artists, especially when it's edgy or with more of an urban feel, but it's sometimes tough to get all the way out to Brooklyn. So I'm really glad I can now make this part of my regular SoHo gallery crawl.

An exciting display of opera and baroque accompanied by a bit of U2, Cream, The Who and Emminen. We were treated to a musical fusion with classics from Mozart, Puccini, Verdi, Delibes, von Flotow, Bizet, Purcell, and Leoncavallo. Wearing rock n roll t's and embossed shirts, the french and italian songs were belted out with much ado and bravado. There were also duets that went along with the keyboard, guitars, bass, drums, violins and cello. Reminiscent of the fabulous Freddie Mercury and Queen, I kept wishing that they would cut loose, and really go crazy. Mostly, they didn't and keep within defined boundaries. Two male vocalists, the main Tyley Ross had an amazing range, funny that he was wearing skin tight black leather pants. The other male vocalist / arranger, Peter Kiesewalter did some rapping. Also a female vocalist, she was called in when the original lost her voice. I couldn't stop thinking about Freddie Mercury, atlas they did not perform one of his songs. From their web site, the music "embraces the pomposity of rock and the pomposity of opera." Five stars for the dramatic melding of european opera with some familiar, nazzy violin and guitar riffs. My favorite song for the night was Verdi's famous, La donna mobile. Thank you, Shauna!
