You can pick this radio station up on the FM dial if you're on the upper East side, but if not, you can tune it in on your smart speaker. Since this station is so far on the left side of the dial, it's a community run station, and therefore they can't play regular commercials like 101 Rock. Instead, they can only play public service announcements that tell you important messages like to look both ways before crossing the street, or don't huff paint. My favorite thing about this station is that when the campus administrators shut down the campus when they were having massive protests, regular reporters couldn't get in and see what was going on. That's where WKCR shone- their DJs acted like impromptu reporters, shining a light on what's going on around campus when it seemed like the dean was trying to cover things up and sweep away protests. By this I mean there is conversation that touches on numerous topics and doesn't hold back when it comes to the opinions of the Skype callers (the Citizen Panel) or the hosts. Alex Bennett is the head and creator of GABNet. He also hosts The Ramble that is on line live Tuesday through Friday, 10pm EST till midnight. The show can cover any topic, hence the name, The Ramble. The broadcast day starts with The Exchange, at 9:30pm EST, Monday through Friday. Host Damion Chaplin covers today's news as well as stories from the recent past that resonate with him. The other show they have is Living Sexy, Mondays, 10pm EST. I must be honest and say that I haven't listened to this show but I understand it is open discussion about sex, and being sexy.
