Last year, my two daughters attended RFK for after school care. Being new to the area and coming late in the summer after moving from Chicagoland to the Bay Area, I feel fortunate to find RFK as a service provider for after school care. I cannot emphasize how lucky I was to find RFK on an internet search. RFK is an amazing care program which is quite different than typical engagement of kids playing, doing some homework and waiting till the pickup time by the parents to go home... Kids can choose to do a lot of different activities such as chess, yoga, robotics, Spanish language, Bollywood dancing. For my daughters, Bollywood dancing was a hit. Watching the year end performances show by all the kids was an event to remember! My 4th grader will be back this year and she cannot wait... Excellent teachers, very nice infrastructure and facilities... All the kudos go to Shuchi, the owner and the boss who runs an outstanding service in the Foster City. RootsForKids offers both after school programs and Summer camps. The facility is spacious and gated, featuring several classrooms excelling in both cleansiness and repertoire of learning/playing materials, as well as a large playground from which students' laughter and shouts of excitement traverse to the parking lot in the afternoon. It is worth noting that the school is in a standalone compound, and they have their own parking lot. They provide transportation to pick kids up from selected nearby elementary schools, which is a bliss to working parents. They have some of the nicest and most energetic teachers you'll ever meet. The director herself, Ms. Shuchi, is very responsive to inquiries, and their teachers are communicative. They have a sizable staff to teach students of various interests after school, including foreign languages (Spanish, Hindi), yoga, Bollywood dancing, and homework assistance. They also do a great job striking a balance between academics and recreation, as my child had fun playing with Legos, hama beads, and Minecraft with friends. Their Summer camps feature a different theme every week. Some notable activities include movie time, going to the park accross the street, and water spraying time. This is also a time when students will work on 2 to 3 projects a day. Some of the work is pretty fun, as my child brought home a bird feeder, a small magnet propelled self painted car, and a pair of mock binoculars made of paper styled to their artistic appeal. In the last week, they work for tokens to trade for small toys. To conclude, RootsForKids is like a small school in itself. They have qualified teachers, a good variety of learning and playing opportunities, and well planned programs. The tuition is more than reasonable. Our daughter is in her second year at Roots, and we're so happy there. In the beginning of her TK year she was enrolled at a different after school care facility. Within a month, we realized that she was miserable there, and we knew we had to find something else fast. After visiting a few different places, we thought Roots was our best option. It was clean, well-organized, had a great mix of academics and free play, and the staff seemed caring and friendly. Fast forward a couple months, and we're SO glad we chose Roots! Our daughter is now in Kindergarten, and looks forward to going to Roots every day. She has more friends there than she does at her elementary school, and has formed bonds with her teachers. She's a pretty shy child, and the activities there have helped her come out of her shell. My son will be in Kindergarten next year, and he's already enrolled for the school year. This is the PERFECT after-school program. My older son is in kindergarten and he LOVES RootsForKids. I'm planning to put my younger son in RFK and I'm just dreading the day that they graduate to middle school and can't go here anymore! The owners, Ms. Shuchi and Ms. Anu, are wonderful people, smart, caring, professional. They answer my emails promptly. This program is excellent academically but also fun. I can't even believe the enrichment activities such as dancing, history, language classes, yoga. My son is learning more math here than in elementary school -- and he's having fun with it! RootsForKids is hands down the best afterschool program that your child can be in. Ms.Shuchi, Ms.Anu and all the teachers/staff are extremely dedicated and very approachable and really have great experience in handling kids of this age and their psychology/behaviours. The after school hours that the kids spend here are very structured. The kids can choose from a variety of electives additionally if they want to explore extra curricular activities (Bollywood dance, Yoga, Spanish, Hindi, Art, Lego, Discover India, Public speaking). You can also sign up for sports/chess and other regular activities. Fall/Spring/Summer camps are also nicely organized and has variety for the kids. Next to home, this is the safest place your child can go to, after school. Roots offered various enrichment classes we were not able to accommodate in our schedule otherwise. They have great teachers and trainers and very happy and smiling environment. My son has been with Roots for Kids through his Kindergarden year and I have been very happy with the curriculum and the activities. We have already signed up for the summer and for next year! Our son rates this place # 1 of his favorite places to be during week and we are very grateful for the peace of mind it gives us as parents. RFK was recommended to us by our friends whose family is of two different cultural backgrounds as we are. It is important to us that our son is exposed to what the Bay Area is all about, the diversity. We have carefully listened to the information provided to us during the first visit/orientation with the importance of appreciation for knowledge, diversity and respect mentioned several times. We decided to sign our son up and we can absolutely say that the promises made were definitely promises kept at RFK. RFK is extremely well run/organized. Bus pick ups from schools are managed very well without any hiccups. The system for kids pick-ups is followed to the dot and prevents from any mishaps. Communication with the school is clear, consistent and any messages/emails/vmails are responded to in a timely manner. RFK provides a wonderful learning environment Arts, languages, science projects, math all done in a structured but also fun way -- our son loves it! Also, not to forget the additional enrichment classes offered: Lion Heart, chess, lego building etc. etc. Socially, this place is a haven for kids and parents. Our son made many new friends, reconnected with his preschool friends who ended up at different elementary schools and became much more confident. We have been sending our daughters to Roots for a combined 6 years. They have attended the after school program as well as their holiday camps. We always ask if the kids want to try a new camp during the summer and they flat refuse. They have built incredible friendships in the program and the curriculum has proven to be both instructional and fun for the kids. We moved to Foster City from San Mateo when our daughter joined Foster City Elementary School in 2018. The process of her joining the school started as early as 2017 Dec and soon after the winter break that year, in 2018 Jan-Feb, we started looking out for After Care for my daughter. When the school options were not available/full already and others waitlisted, we found out this amazing place called RootsForKids. My daughter and I both took liking to this place immediately. When I will pick my daughter in the evening, the first thing she will tell in those initial days were the ride in Roots Van and how she enjoys that even though it is a short ride of 5-10mins. Ms. Anu/Shuchi has really created an amazing environment for the kids where they can explore lot of amazing activities. There is the love for Bollywood dance, Hindi/Spanish classes and the icing on the cake was the YEAR END event where each and every kid came on stage and performed. Other things to know about this place: 1. Cost wise it is not expensive. We moved to Fremont and the prices in this area is almost 1.5times what is in Roots. 2. Pickup from school is amazing and if your kid goes to GOLD MEDAL, pickup from Roots for GOLD MEDAL is also an option. 3. No food option and that is actually good. 4. Summer fun-truck is really exciting for the kid, but my daughter record with that truck didn't go well. We had to switch from ice-Popsicle to candy to avoid any more sore throats. 5. Couple of times in the years, have to move to Foster City library as the place where Roots location, is closed due to other religious activity. I think even at the new place, the organization/smooth execution by all teachers are awesome. We stayed for 2yrs and would have continued forever at this location had we not moved to Fremont. read more

Our daughter has been going here for the last year and absolutely loves it. Since our district has a short Kindergarten day, she spends more of her day at RFK. The staff is super caring and welcoming. The fact that my child eats all of her lunch and snack (which was a huge struggle before) and complains when I pickup early, is already a huge win. The enrichments offered as part of the curriculum as very nice and keep the curriculum diverse and my child excited. Teachers are very engaged, setup a good incentive structure for positive behavior and office staff is very responsive. They prioritize reading + writing + math which is helpful, though personally I would prefer bit more of play time. Overall love the place! read more

Your child is not safe here. Shockingly bad & extremely poor quality. Please do not get trapped by other reviews or low cost which by the way is not low anymore. They are in it to make money and as much as of it to the extent that they make children do child labor - making them clean so they don't have to pay for help. Their helpers are cheap and low quality. They do not see anything wrong in it. They do not ever supervise children well. And the most shocking part was that they do not see the inappropriate behavior of a 4th grader boy toward a 1st grader girl. They just ignored it despite parents bringing them to their attention. Instead, like super old fashioned traditional Indian granny, told girls parents' to control the girl???? Shocking beyond words. Common you Indian parents - you make good money. Do not subject your kids to such low standard atmosphere and most importantly an environment where there is high risk for your girl child to be subjected to inappropriate behavior. read more

My son is currently attending his 2nd year at Roots. He started last year in TK. We found this program as the afterschool program offered at his school was full and we were put on a waitlist. Little did we know that not getting into the afterschool program at his school was a blessing in disguise. Shuchi and Anu (the owners) run a wonderful program and have hired the best teachers. They are super patient and kind. When my son was in TK, my husband and I considered Roots to be his primary school as the children were learning more advanced material than they were in TK. They definitely helped him prepare for kindergarten. I also strongly feel that they offered a lot of emotional support as my son always came home happy. He would also tell me how much he loved his teachers. There was also a lot of communication between the teachers, my husband, and I. They have also been very responsive to any concerns that I've had. I have to say that there is lots for children to do and there's never a moment that I walk into the classroom to pick up and the kids are doing nothing. I've seen my child either doing work, playing outside, doing yoga, listening to a story, building with legos, etc. There are even times when I pick my son up at the end of the day and he cries because he doesn't want to leave. The teachers also help him with homework and all my husband and I have to do is check it. That's big, especially because we have an infant at home. They have a structured schedule for the kids, but their expectations are reasonable and age appropriate. My son has made great strides because of the structure of the program and the content that he has learned. Roots does pickup from school and I have to admit that I was a little bit nervous at first, but it was fine. It seems a lot more common these days as there's not enough space for everyone to attend afterschool care offered at the school. The first day, they suggested that we were there to help transition but since we could not be there, they made sure to give us a call to ensure he was at the site and to give us an update on how he was doing. Roots also holds an annual event where the kids perform (singing, dancing, reciting of languages) and it is the cutest thing ever! Props to the teachers for all their patience. My daughter joined RootsforKids few weeks back and I must say we are very happy so far. In RootsforKids, you find mentors who are full of passion, zeal and fresh ideas. My daughter loves the after school and enjoys every bit of it. There is a lot of focus on math skills. I was amazed to see the work sheets that she brought home and found that the sheets were definitely one level up and more than what they teach at school. They also focus on reading and writing exercises. Next, she is picking hindi ( which is not our mother tongue ) well. She practices writing hindi alphabets and recognizes states of India. They have some fun packed stuff like bollywood dancing and some good sports activities. Adding to this, they offer school homework help as well. If you are looking for after school programs for your kids in and around foster city, you should check this out. I would definitely recommend it. We are now in our second year (K &1st) with RFK and I feel that this aftercare program provides the perfect balance of physical activity, academics, and free time. Wonderful place!! My daughter loves it, and I love seeing her so happy. When I go to pick her up she always says "can you come later, please?" Miss Shuchi and Miss Anu are not only loving and great with the kids, but truly committed to going beyond just taking care of them. I toured all aftercare programs in Foster City and San Mateo before deciding on enrolling my kindergartener in Rootsforkids. My daughter is in first grade now. Of all the options, Roots came out far ahead. For one, there is a locked door policy at Roots with sign out option (there is double sign out when you pick up). When we toured various programs we were shocked to see some aftercares have their doors open with no security options. Rootsforkids also has various enrichment programs available. Being busy working parents, we do not have time to ferry kids to various activities. My daughter has learned Bollywood dancing, yoga, and Hindi at no extra cost to us. For a small fee, one also has the option to learn various outdoor sports and chess. Roots definitely provides value for money. Lastly, our kid loves it there and us happy to go there everyday! Summer Camps at RootsFor Kids are awesome! My kids usually don't want to go to camps once school ends, BUT they love going to the summer camps offered at RootsForKids. There are different weekly themes, with a weekly field trip which is the highlight of the week. An ice-cream truck stops by on Thursdays and the kids absolutely love packing their dollar bill in their backpack to pay for the ice cream. They also have park time, games, arts and crafts and Friday Fun Movies- overall it's a blast and the staff is superb, they are like a part of our family, the kids adore them. Elementary school was a big transition for us. Knowing my child, I had many questions for the after school program. Roots was referred to us by another parent and we were impressed by the program from the start. From the beginning, Anu and Shuchi were very easy to talk to. When we first visited their facility almost two years ago, I remember Anu was very organized, prepared and ready to talk to us about any questions we had. She even had some homework worksheets from that week, from another child who was in the same grade our child was going into. We also noticed that some of the subject work plans were comparable to area private elementary school curriculum. I found their direct and yet caring manner comforting. They were open about the growth areas they hoped for the children and how they helped them get there in their own pace without mollycoddling them. I also was concerned about the security of the child when moving between two facilities. Here too, Anu spent a good amount of time to walk me through their processes and how they assured me how children's safety is their foremost concern. The program offers a lot for the children and the teachers have a great rapport with the kids. It has academic, enrichment, art, social emotional, sports and so much more. There is structure and it is also fun. The biggest certificate for any program is how the children like them. Our son LOVES Roots. It usually takes me a while to extract him from Roots in the evenings. He in fact told me not to come before signout time! We have had a great experience with all the teachers in the kindergarten classroom. Ms Natika is a favorite! Anu and Shuchi are truly wonderful people... so caring, smart and helpful. We have discussed the growth and needs of our son with them many times and they have been so generous with their time and resources. Roots for kids has been the best after school program for my kids aged 10 (4th grade) & 6 (kindergarten) . They are so happy that there are days when I pick them up early and the kids just don't want to go back home. The staff are very friendly and caring. The owners Anu and Shuchi are very professional and easy to work with. They take note of the littlest details. They do take note of the development of your child and encourage to move them accordingly. The kids finish their homework and then do a variety of activities. The activities yoga, dance, public speaking, art,languages, math are very structured and focused. They offer camps during all school holidays and also provide AM care which is a big help to working parents. I care a lot about the safety of the place where I leave my kids and I am happy to say that the always locked door policy is very satisfying. The transport is also very safe and good. When our child was moving to elementary school we anxiously searched for good after-school programs. At kindergarten, they spend more time at the after school program than in the elementary school. So we were looking for a program that was enriching, balanced between structured and free play, safe and affordable. We found most programs were basically board games and free play or were entirely academic focused. We found a right balance Roots. The program offers both academic (math, writing, homework time, hindi, spanish). Along with social emotional and other learning (art, public speaking, yoga, bollywood dancing,etc.). I find that my child has progressed in areas like public speaking much more at Roots than in his elementary school. Somehow the teachers are able to adapt to the each child's style to encourage them and help them grow. They also have partnered with other groups to get additional enrichment like - chess, a range of team sports, bricks4kids etc. Roots also offer camps tied to the San Mateo Foster City school calendar. And these camps are also similarly well organized. We have tried these as well and our experience has been equally positive for these. We also liked the fact transportation was taken care of by the Roots themselves, and that there was only one change of responsibility from elementary to the afterschool program. The founders Anu and Shuchi are great and very communicative and helped address our questions. We have had no reason of concern. Returning to Roots for the next year was no-brainer for us and we are happy to recommend them wholeheartedly. read more

Our daughter (she is six now) has been with them for the last one and a half years and it has been an absolute pleasure for her as well as us.
