I hope that helps you understand how much I loved this place. I cannot express how delighted I was at this place. I biked to Cascais from Lisbon, covering 22 miles in a few hours, and I was pretty exhausted when I arrived. I had to wait nearly 2 hours before I could go to my hotel, and I aimlessly wandered about town just trying to kill time. I saw that it had some gluten-free options, and decided to take a look. Greenwish has a great selection of gluten-free desserts, small pies and quiches, and a wonderful menu of healthy food including awesome salads and a brilliant daily soup. So brilliant that I ate the soup of the day here twice. I got a lot of stuff to go, hauling it to Lisbon with me as I embark on a hiking trip. Man. I wish I could eat here every day - I'll just have to hope it's still here when I come back next, so VISIT AND EAT HERE! You won't regret it!

The restaurant had a small indoor area but the few tables outside were where you should sit. We ordered apps and by the time they arrived there were people already waiting for an open table (reservation recommended). The staff was helpful and provided great recommendations. The grilled polvo was amazing. One of the most tender octopuses I have ever had the pleasure of eating. Given the opportunity I would definitely return.

It's a tiny place with less than 20 seats inside, but weather permitting they expand to outside seating in weekends starting Friday. Run by a very friendly lady who speaks good English. The menu revolves around Octopus (hence the restaurant's name) and this focus pays off; it's simply an irresistible journey of extremely tastefully prepared starters and main courses of octopus, accompanied with potatoes, homemade chips (UK: crisps) and greens. If you're looking for something non-touristy and high quality, at very reasonable prices, then make sure you reserve a table and try this gem!

And if that's not enough - just to the side of the produce there's an organic food section with more yogurt. There's a good selection of wines, though the Continente in the Cascais Shopping Center has more variety. And and overwhelming selection of cheeses - most Portuguese (many from goat and sheep milk) but some from other parts of Europe. There's a few items in the meat section that would be unusual to North Americans, such as whole skinned rabbits, tongue and all, and small packages containing 10 tiny birds, frozen, the whole thing just weighing a couple hundred grams, for Euro 6.50 There's also a big selection of non-food items. One section is even a small music store, only about three meters wide, with electric guitars, strings, amps, picks - whatever you'd need to rock out, at least small-scale.... Plenty of computers and accessories, phones, etc., auto supplies, and on and on. There's another floor above this with some small shops, and a large parking area, both in front of the Jumbo and on the roof. There's toilets (free) on both floors, and a Multibanco Caixa automatico.

That is the only positive comment about this restaurant. Skip eating here because they do not know how to cook fish. Food: Ordered the sea bream and tuna. The sea bream was edible but since they place it on olive oil and lemons, the fish got soggy. The salads were okay but lettuce was soggy and the cucumbers were shaved so thin that they were soggy as well. The tuna was inedible! It was so salty that you could only take one bite, we immediately told the staff and they said sorry. The apologized 4x by two different employees. We left the tuna with one bite taken on the plate. Again more apologies .... We asked for the bill and over 8 apologies and not even reduction of the bill on a meal that was inedible. Bathroom: inside restaurant up the stairs, it was below average cleanliness No WIFI for customers.

Starting with ambiance, the journey is truly unique. You walk upstairs and are greeted with champagne, the are whisked behind a hidden door to a room with a huge map of Portugal etched on the table. Your journey begins with a taste tour of canapés that span the country. From there, you follow an elevator down to the main restaurant where you enjoy the tasting menu. The whole process feels elevated, whimsical, and unique. Moving to service, like many Michelin-rated restaurants, the experience is coordinated, choreographed, and calculated. Everybody was kind and attentive, and meals were served by waitstaff who clearly understood the menu. One special moment occurred where my wife's tasting menu had more desserts than mine. Instead, I asked for a custom dessert cocktail and they sent the bartender to curate one for me. One other notable item about service was that they let my wife and I order different tasting menus, a request not all restaurants oblige. Drink wise, the wine and cocktails were great. The wine was unique and local and paired nicely with each of the dishes. I had a slight preference for my wife's wines a few times, but generally I liked the pairing. My custom dessert cocktail was excellent and opulent. Food was tremendous overall. Some of my wife and my favorites were the canapés, the butter sampling with the bread, and the desserts. The only item that did not exceed expectations was the fish dish, but even that was just "good." Price wise, I will say the LAB is pricey (~$300pp) with pairings, but still far under pricing for similar restaurants in other locations. All in, I feel like LAB does a great job of allowing its patrons to taste the very best of Portugal and pays great homage to the land that surrounds it. The experience is unforgettable and I highly recommend it. Ambiance: 5/5 Service: 5/5 Drinks: 4/5 Food: 4.5/5 Price: 4.5/5 Consistency: N/A
