Took a 75 minute Sunday morning class here called Root Aroma Vin/Yin Yoga. According to the website: "Enjoy the best of both worlds! A balanced practice - half vinyasa and half yin yoga. CTPG essential oils to enhance your connection to the mind, body and breath. Different essential oils will be used each week to compliment the postures being guided. All levels welcome." The check-in process was easy, they had us do it ourselves on their mini screen. The instructor noted that I was new to their space and went out of her way to welcome me, ask if I had ever practiced yoga before, give me a consent card for yes/no regarding hands-on assists during class, explain that the oils are self applied beforehand. The class itself was a pleasant way to spend a rainy Sunday morning. Big windows let a lot of light into the space even on gray days. This class in particular to me felt both a) more like just a normal vinyasa class with some cool down poses, and b) also like a mini workshop what with the oracle cards and assists and perfectly paced music. For just $18! Don't miss out local, friends. The instructor was okay; admittedly she missed a few poses in her sequences from side to side and she seemed to linger around me specifically when emphasizing particular cues (maybe she didn't trust that this wasn't my first class?). Her assists were lovely reiki like touches, but also maybe a little too overcorrective in spots. Bummer that their cafe wasn't open when I visited. It seems like one of the few options in Muskegon for vegan eats. I was hoping to load up on immunity shots, smoothies, avocado toast, and tempeh/chickpea wraps for my hotel room. Ambiance was nice, but food and drinks were WAYYY to expensive. Ordered 2 smoothies, why is it over $20?? Took way too long to receive our smoothies and the sizes were so small. The employees were chatting away, which isn't an issue but if you're taking over 10 minutes to make a smoothie, like come on. Never eating here again. DO NOT RECOMMEND! read more

Went to Julia Fisher's Monday 5:30PM Root Flow (All Levels) Yoga class tonight and it was just a wonderful grounding practice which focused on the breath while offering a good workout! It was simultaneously challenging while being calming for the nervous system. I felt safely pushed past my edge and went further into poses thank I do normally. The space is extremely beautiful and has great juices and the best vegan and vegetarian food in town! read more

So nice to have a healthy downtown smoothie or lunch option! I've gone in several times to try smoothies and wraps. I'm also thankful that they have kombucha on tap. Very cute, clean, and cozy space. I think prices are a bit high for the area, but I appreciate they are trying to support local purveyors and prepare healthy food. Out of the options I've tried so far, nothing has been "crave worthy" or become a new favorite, but I'll keep going back and trying new things so I can get some more greens into my daily eating plan. read more

I contacted Rootdown to see if they could hold an early morning, private class for my best friend and some of her wedding party on the day of her wedding. The owner Kelly emailed me back right away and said they could definitely accommodate us! We had a group of 7 people for a 6 am, heated vinyasa class. Our instructor, Dan, was great and the style of yoga was a little slower-paced than some hot yoga studios I've been to. It was a great way to start the day and everyone in the class enjoyed it. Afterwards, Dan offered to open up the juice/smoothie bar for us! We tried a variety of different juices and the Kokomo smoothie which was amazing. We all left feeling energized and refreshed. They also sell salads which all sounded really tasty. I liked that I could sign the waiver before class just by registering on their website. Rootdown offers several different classes and has mats and yoga gear for sale in the studio. I will definitely be back to Rootdown the next time I'm in Muskegon! An ample variety of quality, fresh salads, juice & smoothies. Combined with a bright open space and friendly staff, make for an enjoyable experience. Ordered a salad (Warrior) and juice (I get around). Both salad and juice were very good and prepared fresh. The salad is competitively priced while the juices and smoothies are a bit pricey. As we walked the Art Festival, we came across this place. It was unexpectedly nice to see Muskegon welcoming places like this where you can find natural fruit juices and smoothies. The staff was very friendly and helpful with recommendations. Even though they forgot one of our orders they made it and gave us a couple extra punches on the card. I love that they encourage re-usability with their bottles if you come back and get another drink and pay a little less. I got the Funky Pretty and that was pretty good if you like beets, in which I do. I like that the prices are very reasonable as well. I don't feel like I'm getting charged an arm and a leg for a healthier option. If this place was in my neighborhood, I could easily see myself becoming a regular. read more

The classes are wonderful; different instructors offer a different feel, and they have varying levels. This is a really exceptional small business in downtown Muskegon with such personable and knowledgeable owners and staff. They offer versatile yoga classes. I was traveling on business and I was concerned about healthy options in Muskegon. By coincidence I found Rootdown and it was out of this world!!! Shira and Daniel were awesome and very knowledgeable of healthy eating. During the 3 days I went there I tried the Kombucha, 3 Juices, 2 smoothies and both of their salads. Everything was fresh and delicious, they literally peel the carrots, open the avocados etc right in front of you. 100% recommended. I can't wait to be back in the area and go back to Rootdown to try the rest of the menu and the Hot Yoga. Keep up the good work! read more

A Nourishment Revelation. I am a hardcore foodie, serious home chef, with a very refined palette, and seriously - the attention to detail in all of the dishes I tried was exceptional. The chefs made the amazing vegetables and ingredients sing in my mouth. Oh my god, the avocado toast with the pepitas and feta - the Run Wild - bread perfectly toasted. the avocado perfectly mashed and left pure. The texture and combination of flavors perfectly calibrated. Such a dish. And my mom's salad??!! huge! fresh, raw beet ribbons at the height their ripeness and freshness. Uh! And the shaved carrots! and mustard vinaigrette was delightfully savory. So glad she got some extra! And while I didn't taste my step-dad's Lotta Love hummus wrap - it's a rainbow of gorgeous vegetable beauty and he loved it. And my ginger tumeric cayenne shot. OMG. I should have instagrammed it with the light powdering of cayenne and black pepper on top?!!!!! sorry ladies! I was enjoying myself too much :) and it was insanely good of course. And I got the Ruby Baby for my drive, again a perfect flavor profile. I credit this meal for an amazingly easy, relaxed and zen 8 hour drive home through Chicago traffic. You're lucky Muskegon! I started coming to the Sunday 4pm community classes (suggested 5 dollar donation) it has been an excellent decision to continue every Sunday I can since! I saw they offered a 20 for 20 ( 20 classes in 20 days) you also get added perks inside the deal! I am new to yoga studios but after talking to some of my yogi friends from Grand Rapids this places prices are AMAZING! Excellent kombucha under 6 dollars! Juices, smoothies, salads and yoga ! Seriously awesome concept and great execution! Man I wish this was in my own home town ! I had to get two one for the visit and one for the road . Serious shout out to this ridiculously cool place! Kombucha on tap?! Please and thank you! They rotate two of their three flavors...ginger, lavender-hibiscus and my choice, jasmine! So, so good! I also had the "Catch-A-Wave" juice...spinach, Apple, cucumber, lemon, celery, parsley and for a little extra $ and kick...jalapeño! I do a lot of juicing and hands down, this is my personal FAV .
