History
Established in 2001.
Root came to fruition in the summer of 2001. The small clothing boutique, specializing in women's apparel, footwear, and accessories, set out to buck the expectations of local shoppers and shopping tourists, by offering fashion-forward, trend-driven style, found more typically along, say, Robertson Boulevard, than in the quaint Texas town of Fredericksburg. After the first 5 years proved there was a need, Root expanded its inventory and footprint to double the original size, and reopened the doors to a rejuvenated space filled with light and color, and a hearty assortment of coveted and trusted labels such as Trina Turk, French Connection, Splendid, and Rachel Pally, to name a few.
Meet the Business Owner: Cassell H.
Cassell grew up in Fredericksburg and loved just about every minute of the small town life. After finding her match, another local, she set out to find work that would scratch her creative itch, fuel her entrepreneurial spirit, and engage her affinity for really good style in at least one form or another. She purchased an existing clothing store in 2001 and reopened it under the name Root, as a nod to her appreciation for where she was planted. Over the years, she felt out the needs of her loyal customers and gradually tweaked the merchandise until the mix seemed just right. In the meantime, she became mom to 3 kiddos, and created The Roadrunner Inn, a modern take on the Bed & Breakfast experience, with attention to comfort, as well as design, and a doily-free promise.
