Robert worked with me to find the exact Cowboy hat I was looking for, and then his staff shaped it perfectly. I found the selection to be great, for any budget, and the prices were good. Also worth noting was his selection of boots, including Lucchese, which have proved to be challenging to find outside of the flagship stores. The most amazing store I've ever been in. The boot dept was super busy with folks picking out their gorgeous boots. I loved walking thru and checking out the cool signs and other fun items they carry. The model at the front is great as he poses like part of the fixtures. A great deal of hats of different shapes and sizes, and I've bought a couple of different hats from here in the past. This isn't about the hats, it's the overly aggressive salesmen around there. I did go in with the intention of buying a new hat, i'll start with that.. It's a small store, do you really need 7 employees every 8-10 seconds asking if you need help, size help, etc.? A few times is good enough, not the same person asking every couple of seconds. Absolutely was not a good experience, not sure if it was "if youre just looking, get out" or what, but almost every single employee was hovering over me constantly asking if i need help. No, i just want to look for something that works for me, i'll know it when i see and feel it, please quit badgering the customers and just shy of yanking the hats out of my hand. It seemed very passive aggressive instead of helpful, not sure the aim behind it as i use to be in sales before, just was very ridiculous; too many employees for a small area, every few seconds, yes i counted, bugging me, yanking the hats out of my hand, please do better, its a good store and decent prices (on big name brands, otherwise fairly pricey), amazing selection.. but the employees were just too much. I did end up leaving empty handed because i was getting very irritated, it wasnt worth staying in the store any longer! Update: Got the exact same hat i was looking for at Cavenders, paid more than half the price for the exact everything. For more than half what i would have paid for at Hat Headquarters, i got the hat, 2 bands, plus reshaped free of charge! Still came out less than 1 hat at this place! I still say some of the big name brand hats have decent prices, but some are definitely overpriced read more

I walked in to look at boots. They had a good selection of Lucchese boots. However, when I took a picture of a pair I tried on, an employee told me that pictures weren't allowed and gave a flimsy excuse. Clearly, they don't want you checking their prices against other vendors. It's almost unbelievable to me that I wouldn't be able to take a few pictures to compare boots before making a $600+ purchase. Since when is it company policy to make a combat veteran carry his service animal in and out of your store. It was already told to an associate after that person asked the veteran to carry his service dog. When confronted by Jim, it was explained again, Jim was confrontational. When asked if the vet is supposed to carry his wheelchair (hypothetically) in and out the store, Jim had no response. The veterans service dog was CLEARLY visible to all, especially with the bright red leash that said SERVICE DOG. I moved from NY to Leander, TX a month ago. I took a ride to Fredericksburg to spend the day walking up and down Main St. Sure enough I stumble upon this gem. I walked into Headquarters Hats not knowing anything about the hats in the store except for one thing, I wanted to buy and wear a "cowboy" western style hat. I have always bought the NY fitted and beanies and that's all I pretty much knew about hats. I loved the "cowboy" western style look about the hats but I didn't know enough about them to build the confidence up and buy one. Not only was The staff was so amazingly helpful and very knowledgeable, but they hustled and moved around the whole store pulling hats from all different places high and low and letting me try them on. At one point there was literally 4 different guys scurrying around the store finding hats for me and seeing how they looked on me as they gave me their opinions. Each one was popping up one by one and giving me a new selection and waited to hear what I thought about it. When I said I didn't like it they went right back to finding me a new one with a new style or fit. I finally settled on one I loved and they all agreed it was a great choice. This man Robert took his time to explain how to properly store the hat and take care of it so it's not damage. He mentioned that it should always be taken off at the dinner table because that's what a gentleman does, but you can wear it when having drinks. I felt so confident with this new hat on my head and I wore it out the store and for the rest of the day. It was also very nice to see the gals giving me double looks as I walked through each store but was a big hit. I will definitely be going back to Headquarters Hats again just because of the service and the quality of the hats. It's a hour and a half from where I live and I will gladly make the drive to Fredericksburg again many times and always remember to stop by this store and pick up a new hat to add to the collection. read more

I wish I could leave 0 stars. I tried on a pair of lucchese boots and asked the sales associate for the price and he and his co worker told me $799. I went to the register and was quoted $1000 for the exact same boots. The manager told me "the price just went up" between me asking the sales associate and my walk to the register. $200 more for the same exact boots within 3 minutes of each other. The manager then told me and my 5 friends to "never come back" to his store when we questioned the price increase. I will NEVER return and will never recommend this store. They are greedy and money hungry crooks. Sad because genuinely wanted their product. read more

Received excellent help trying to find my size in hats unfortunately there was not any my size. The Staff was extremely nice and helpful. They have a beautiful selection on Bolo ties when I found one that caught my eye, I asked if there were any bull skulls with turquoise on them. The owner said no but as I was paying out he and some of the staff glued a beautiful turquoise stone at no extra charge. Interesting experience here today! We walked in to a store with a large selection of western wear and a huge selection of Lucchese boots. Awesome!!! While some are priced comparable to other retailers, others are overpriced as there is a "Main Street mark up" due to tourism and convenience. Went to try on a boot, yes just one, then they asked if I wanted to try on the other one. Sure! Put both boots on and you will be followed around the store- why? Because you have a few hundred dollars on your feet and can walk right out of the store if you weren't being watched. I totally get it!!! I do not have a problem with this, and I would too if I were a business owner. What I don't understand is the pushy/rude/condescending behavior/talk. Being asked what the problem is when trying to decide if I want to spend $200+ on boots or to hurry up or being told incorrectly on what the boots are made from. I am not sure if it were purposeful to try a make a sale or accidental out of ignorance. Just be careful when you are here and don't be afraid to say no even when they act mad you do not want to buy $200-$1K+ boots even after trying on a pair. It is a lot of money, which makes it a BIG decision, so unfortunately not everyone will say yes. read more

Everyone should buy boots from Rob and his staff from Headquarters Hat. My experience was fantastic and to be honest unexpected. First of all, we all know cowboy boots are expensive and if we're going to take that plunge we want to be excited about our purchase. Rob was nothing but first class service and extremely helpful throughout the process. I've searched all over central Texas for a pair of black shark skin boots with a 7 toe. Unfortunately, it's not a common skin, toe, and color combination. Rob went out of his way too find a boot that would fit the specific look I was going for. Rude, rude, rude. I guess they aren't use to people coming in knowing what they want, just tourists that they can talk in into buying what they have. My husband was in the market for a new cowboy hat same size, style and shape as his old one. The salesman tried to sell him some Panama Jack hat so my husband went to the car and brought his hat in. The salesman proceeded to tell him they had nothing like that. As my husband continued to look around the store I went back up to the front of the store. I overheard the rude older sales woman ask the other salesman about my husband, "what's his deal?" He told her he wants a hat just like he has. She wanted to know what brand it was and says "he should just go find him a a store that sells that brand" in her rude crabby voice. I was walking down the street with my GF and they had some very high-quality Stetson stylish open weave sun hats on sale. They were well made and had SPF 50 fabric inside the top and front brim.
