I was given the task of planning and putting on a corporate holiday event for approximately 350 people, with just about a month to prepare. Marie formulated a theme, based on my request to have s'mores, and her Camp G was such a hit that I'm still getting compliments on 2 months later. Not only was the theme perfect and expertly executes, but with a million other items for me to coordinate at work, Marie was able to take the reigns completely with setup and coordination of the party. She made it so that I just needed to show up! The menu created was perfectly on par with the theme. The food prepared was excellent and many folks went back for seconds. I emailed Root Cellar about two weeks ago and got a call from Marie almost immediately after I submitted my inquiry but I wasn't able to answer because I was heading into a work meeting. I had my fiance call them back but it went straight to voicemail so he left one but never received a call back. I did receive a follow up email from Marie within the hour and responded to her questions and have yet to hear from her. Because I know technology can fail us, I made two attempts to follow up and connect again but still no response. I had the chance of trying them out while they were at Ballast Point recently. It was taco Tuesday and they had a special collab menu with BP that day. Very creative! FOOD: -Bubba Taco - Habanero Sculpin cooked with grass-fed chorizo. It was okay but I think lacked flavor and spice. The meat was quite dry. -"Pale ale banh mi pork belly" - soft taco with pork belly in pale ale with vinagered carrots. Intended to simulate the taste of the infamous Vietnamese banh mi. My favorite out of the two tacos I tried! -Tacos were $9 for 2...came with tortilla chips and pickles. A little pricey, I thought.... SERVICE: -Quick and friendly. My biggest fear for my wedding was having bad, dry food, and "wedding chicken." I didn't want to have one of those weddings where everyone suffers through a meal. Root cellar not only blew all of my expectations out of the water, but they smiled and provided amazing customer service too. Jamie and Marie were amazing from the start of our wedding planning. They customized a menu specifically for us beyond just our favorit foods. Im filipino and my husband is lebanese, they blew it out of the park with satay skewers, lamb meatballs, banh mi crostinis, and bacon lumpia as appetizers. The main course was served family style which we loved. Everything was delicious. For dessert, Marie handed out ice cream sandwiches while people were dancing. I hardly had to do anything. Waitstaff/Service- Super friendly and helpful. They showed up and set everything up and it looked beautiful. I do not have enough amazing things to say about this wonderful husband and wife team!!! Marie and Jamie catered our wedding July 28th of this year. Not only did Marie coordinate our wedding, but Jamie catered the French themed event. Marie was my wedding angel (coordinator) for the whole 9 months beforehand, allowing me to enjoy the entire process and stress about NOTHING! Marie made our special day, what it was - unique, elegant, and perfect! She even had a baby half 6 months before the wedding and still did not miss a beat. Marie is a young lady that is full of grace, talent, energy, calm, intelligence, and great connections to boot! She was extremely creative, which helped to give us a wedding day that was one of a kind and all our own. She gave us many money saving tips which allowed us to pull of a million dollar wedding for under $20,000. I did not have one single moment with Marie planning my wedding, that was not 100% perfect. Our guests raved about the whole experience, saying that is was the most beautiful wedding they had ever been to. Jamie was our caterer. He created a menu that was beautiful and authentic French Countryside. Some of our appetizers consisted of handmade rustic tarts (tomato, mushroom, etc...), Miniature Croque Monsieurs with with Bechamel Sauce, French Cheeses, etc. Our dinner choices were Boeuf Bourguignon and Coq Au Vin. Our guests said it was the best "wedding" food they had ever had. What a complement to the Chef! It tasted like dinner from a fine French Restaurant instead of a wedding that was mass produced. The dinner went very well with the French wines that we were serving too! I still cannot believe how blessed we were to find this wonderful husband and wife team. Chef Jaimie cooked everything fresh on site and the food was absolutely spectacular! We recently attended the wedding of a long-time friend's daughter. We were so impressed that I asked a server who had catered. I'll be honest, I picked Root Cellar because their prices were reasonable for a plated dinner, but more so because they were actually RESPONSIVE to emails, unlike so many caterers you will deal with. With that being said, the food for Root Cellar was outstanding. We don't live in San Diego, so we took the word of our wedding planner that the food was actually good, as we never were able to do a tasting prior. Marie and Jamie from the Root Cellar catered our Oct. 5th wedding at Leo Carrillo Ranch last fall. The food was INCREDIBLE. People are still talking about the smoked gouda mac and cheese and peach bourbon braised short ribs that they made! They also did all the desserts and cake, which was not only delicious but really pretty too! And throughout the whole menu planning process they were such a pleasure to work with and accommodated all of our family's requests. I used Root Cellar Catering for our wedding on July 7. I could not have asked for a better company to work with! When I first inquired they were extremely responsive. We were able to book a tasting right away to get things started. They were the second tasting that we had done and I knew I didn't need to go to anymore after trying their food and meeting them. We got to meet the owners who are SO involved with everything - they're amazing. We loved that they are farm to table - they had the most positive attitudes and vibes I knew they would be easy to work with. My dad is an Executive Chef of 45 years and we will just say he is not easy to cook for or please. He had certain requests and they were able to do them with no issues at all. The food at our wedding was incredible - we received so many compliments! We had chicken stir fry served in Chinese to-go boxes with chop sticks, mac and cheese in mini cast iron skillets that they served and a taco station with shrimp and carne asada - all of which were incredible. They also made mini corn dogs as a late night snack and made the best desserts! They really went above and beyond. Their staff was amazing. My husband and I hired them to cater a small dinner after our wedding, and between the food and the service I'm not sure what was more impressive. My first contact with Marie was a little frantic on my side and she was nothing but calm and helpful, she set me up with her favorite rental company so I could get all the needed 'matching' place settings, wine glasses, and linens.
