My husband and I regularly dine at Wrench and Rodent and The Whet Noodle, owned by the operators behind Pickled Ginger. The husband-wife team are abundantly committed to the Earth and the people and animals who walk, crawl or otherwise roam it. The food reflects deep love for the homo sapiens who eat it; it's fresh, delicious and creatively prepared. And it doesn't scream, "We're trying so hard to be cool". It's beautiful.
We tapped Pickled Ginger to cater our daughter's second birthday party. I know; sushi and such at a two year-old's party. Thing is, she loves herself some raw sea dwellers and, notably, the stir-fried yasai itame vegetables the Pickled Ginger et al. team prepares.
Back to the toddler party. The Pickled Ginger team painstakingly identified all details of the event in advance, even bringing colored napkins to match the theme, in addition to extra resources to ensure we didn't run out of this or that. I breathed a sigh of relief as soon as they began setting up. The whole spread was magical and our guests -- aged two months to 74 years -- celebrated, mouths agape, until so full of food they could no longer move. Epilogue: we eventually requested they move so we could gracefully sneak the leftovers home.
Thanks, Pickled Ginger. Besos.
Good: Order a selection of hot items and sushi. Also, the cold ramen noodle salad.
Better: Order more sushi. They'll relay regulations for how long it can be exposed to air (surprisingly, longer than I anticipated).
Best: Order chef's choice for some of the sushi. We're so glad we did this; the spread was thoughtful, beautiful and delicious. read more
