Great and petite comedy room. An awesome time for a Thursday night. Great comedians. I made a suggestion about the line up- bc comics are too gradually get better through the headliner. You can bring food and it's byob- that's the part I loved the most. They're a small business so purchased paraphernalia is helpful for them, I purchased a shirt although they didn't have the one I wanted- it was a great quality but a little expensive 35-40. I will definitely be back

Super casual atmosphere. The comedians interact with the crowd a good bit. Its byob. The crowd seemed to be mostly college kids. The comedians touch on some raunchy topics

I saw on instagram someone talking about this spot, and how they host free/cheap shows. To my surprise, not only was it inexpensive but such a good comedians. We were laughing the entire night. All around there was artwork that looked pretty cool. I would definitely be back throughout the summer. I'm looking forward to the next time!

My wife and I drove an hour and a half for this comedy venue and it was well worth it! It was our wedding anniversary and we planned several things to do in silver spring and ended the night at this place. It's in NW DC, which seemed safe in a residential neighborhood. It's a hole in the wall in between a clothing store and an office space for a pizza place across the street. At first, we weren't sure if the show was going on because we arrived 20 minutes before hand for a 8 pm show and the door was shut and locked. This was a Tuesday. But soon enough, the door opened. My advice is, get there right at the start time or if you're even 10 minutes late, you will be fine. It did not start until about 8:20 pm. The show was FREE, but you still need to reserve your tickets via ticketbrite. The guy at the door simply asked my last name and we got in. It's a small space but makes the whole experience awesome. It's folding chair seating, right in front of the comedian. It's literally just a room with cool show quality lighting and good speaker system. There is also a bathroom attached. It's BYOB but there's a liquor store across the street and they are cool with people just drinking whatever they bring. We saw several comedians who did approximately 10 minute stand up shows each. Some were hilarious, some were funnier than others. Be prepared to laugh though! Each had their own style. Also be prepared to be singled out as no one is safe in this small space. So if you're offended easily or don't like being made fun of, not the spot for you! They also have some unique artwork on the walls for sale. There's a cool chalk board of all the Instagram profiles of the comedians so you can follow them too. The venue accepts donations via Venmo and have cool shirts for sale. I highly recommend this spot for a low key comedy event. Who knows, someone you see might be the next big comedian!

Great laughs! BYOB, there is pizza across the street and a liquor store close by! The person checking you in is extremely nice!

Came here for a comedy show a few weeks ago and really enjoyed the space. It's basically an art gallery that sets up chairs for cozy, intimate hilarious show. There were 3 comics who performed and they were each hilarious. They allow BYOB so it's very fun, although the crowd can get a bit rowdy because of that. The host and staff were really friendly and the bathroom was clean. Really cool place in the neighborhood!

Quaint little venue with KILLER vibes. I thoroughly enjoyed the comedy show! We stopped across the street to grab some spirits before the show so it was a perfect night cap after dinner at a near by restaurant. Thank you!

I took my boyfriend here for a celebratory date and it exceeded expectations! This was our first time at a comedy club and it did not disappoint. The venue was intimate but it worked well. It was BYOB but they provided bottle openers/cups at the front. The comedian lineup for Saturday night was hilarious, I definitely recommend!

Great venue! Cozy, intimate, and purely delightful. Everyone is friendly and warm. Awesome art inside. Superb location in Petworth with a delicious pizza joint and liquor store across the street! So grateful for comedy venues like these!

This place doesn't seem like much on the outside but don't judge a book by it's cover! We got tickets here for the Thursday FREE secret show. Our set had 5 hilarious comedians that each had their own style that had me laughing til my face hurt. They were able to read the audience well and adjust their sets accordingly, which made for an even more engaging experience. The BYOB is also heavily encouraged since there are no alcohol sales here. There's a liquor store across the street if you need to pick up something on the way. Overall the venue was a cozy spot, and I highly recommend this place for anyone looking for a fun and affordable night out.

Total fun. Wonderful interactions. The seats are hard plastic, but okay. Drinks available from across the road - easy.

Also, the plus side is that it's BYOB so you can bring whatever drinks you want - I really liked that aspect of it.

My boyfriend and I were in town during the Christmas holiday…read more(2024) and after an early finish to our touring, I suggested we find something to do while the night was still young. I did a quick google search and found out that HotBed offers free comedy shows throughout the week. We stopped in on a Thursday evening for their 8pm show. We took our time with travel and unfortunately got there when the show was already underway. Moreover, there were no more seats, only standing room. A bit uncomfortable but we made it work. The space itself is cozy and very reminiscent of what I think a comedy club would look like from TV or if I heard about it. There is a bar available however, we opted out as it was on the opposite side of the room. I don't think there was a drink minimum either. The show itself, was amazing ! There were about 15 comedians, I think. Out of all of them, maybe 1 or 2 weren't great. Their sets are timed to about 2-5 minutes, so you'll still be laughing at the last comedian while another preps themselves to go up. The comedians are also a great variety of folks, from black to white, young to older, and straight to LGBTQ. I also liked how they interacted with the audience, so funny! Overall, it was a great time. I'll definitiely be returning if I am in town and I highly recommend for others, especially if you are looking for something to do on a budget.

I recognize that the Magic Duel takes huge pride in 5 star reviews on Yelp, which I deeply respect. But I did wish that we had seen the show in a different venue. I am no stage expert, but lights and sound do matter a lot in delivery of a magic show for a skeptic like me, going because the significant other loves magic shows. With better lighting, things would have been more "magical" (thinking bottles.) I was also surprised that a bubble artist, as good as she was in her profession, was considered a magician. After some quick research, you will end up at Magic Duel in this genre, so please go to Dupont or Georgetown.
