Downstairs - this is where the comics did their stand up routines! - People are seated in a basement comedy club with a neon "HOTBED" sign on a brick wall, watching a stand-up routine.

I was here on a busy Friday night and had a fantastic time! We were seated near the back (which I appreciated, as it was my first stand-up comedy show ever and I was nervous the comics would do crowd work). They offer drinks in the back, including high noons, which makes it a fun date night spot since you can drink while listening to the hilarious stand-up routines. They offer snacks, but we had eaten prior to coming, otherwise that would have been a nice option.

Fun spot for DC comedy shows and improv. The artist list can be hit or miss, but it's a casual vibe and you can easily pop in for a show. The night I went, it was a mostly full house. But my group got there 15 minutes before the opening and we got seats in the second row. Score! The staff is really kind here - from the greeter/host to the bouncer and ticket check. Surprised how much service we got for such a laid back event! The bar serves standard drinks. Sometimes people can get sloppy and spill/drop their drinks, so be careful of the stickier floors (just expect that at divey establishments!)

A night of comedy and drinks and chips. Montreal good but decent laughs for $25 per person. This is a place to. One and support local comedian talent. The talent is like a box of chocolates...you never know what you're going to get. The bar tenders are on point. Overall this place gets the job done, it's nothing fancy to look at. I would give this a visit again but maybe not my first choice. Overall I think every and anyone should support the talent here.

This is my first time attending to a stand up comedy show in DC proper (I've gone to a few shows in MD and VA neighborhoods), I took my husband to a date in this place since he is really loves Comedy Shows! I would like to give the benefit of the doubt and maybe this night (Saturday 6th, 7PM show) was not the best for either the team of comedians or the crowd was not feeling coming to the show? The people arriving earlier to the show, were saving the best front row for at least the 15 min of the show, and the people seating in the middle section were very bored that off-put the comedians lol. I have a mix feeling of not the right audience for the people presenting (it felt really odd, since we were such a small audience, yet most of the time the comedians were uncomfortable and same for the crowd). I will probably give it a try on a weekday night during their free nights (which are Wednesday and Thursdays). I'm not sure if there's actual food in the venue, but they do have sodas (like Coke and Diet Coke) besides hard drinks. You can find lots of eateries around the Adams Morgan area, even other bars to pre-game! Don't forget your ID!!!

We had a great time seeing some local comedians here! The show was reasonably priced for the talent. The drinks were okay but I wasn't expecting anything crazy. Pricing was on par for DC. Good alternative to going out in the city. Would definitely go again!

Checked out this new bar and comedy club the other day and, while there still seems to be some adjustments they can make as a new business, it's off to a decent start. There are currently free shows in Wednesday's and Thursdays. We went to the 8pm show. We found it annoying that they didn't let anyone downstairs to get seated until like 5 minutes before the show and it was a stampede. We had arrived at 7:40 to try to get lined up or get good seats. The drinks leave something to be desired. $14 for crappy bottled wine (small bottle, too). The Aviation cocktail was ok but not the best I've had. The comedy show was definitely good for being free! There we're around a dozen comics doing short sets. Naturally some were better than others but we got our laughs. I'm sure we'll back for another show, and I hope the business can improve the drink menu and continue to fine tune their operations

Sign near comedy stage - A red neon sign displaying the word 'HOTBED' is mounted on a dark textured wall, with part of a person's head visible in the lower left corner.

Fun comedy shows. We attended one of the free ones, and then the Friday night show, both were great. Friendly bartenders!

The two item minimum has never been a problem for me with the DC swiss burger and an angry orchard coming out to about $35 after tip. Booked tickets well in advance via Vivid Seats and bought the event protection. The interior was smaller than I expected, definitely a homey feel. We arrived an hour early to pick up our tickets at Will Call, painless quick process. Host led us to our seats and was friendly. We sat close to the front. Average waiting time to get our food for a busy comedy club, the old bay fries and burrito were pretty good! Needed improvement: Our server wasn't smiling at all, did the bare minimum. My husband ordered two items that were featured in one of their combo specials and didn't notice, a great server would've pointed out that it's more cost effective to order the combo, but she didnt. left a low tip as feedback, figured that would get the message across. She then came back to ask if everything was okay with the service when we were trying to pay attention to the show- didn't feel like explaining then, so explaining here. Other servers however appeared friendlier. Pro tip: if you want to get picked on by the comedian, sit towards the front in the center, that's where it's lit and he/she and the camera can actually see you. Or the tables flanking the stage. Parking tip: the garage right next to the theatre is $17, suggest parking there rather than the pricier $25 one around the corner across the street! We realized this after. Would def come back to see another show.

Having been to a number of DMV comedy venues (DC Improv, Baltimore Comedy Factory) where the whole 'two item' minimum requirement forces you to pick between a mid, under/over cooked food item and watered down $17 drink, I've been admittely blown away by how good the food/beverage offerings here are. The only caveat is the price, but hey, a comics gotta eat too! It's tucked away in a bit of an obscure corner (my Uber drivers always get confused) but the performance spaces are decently large. Just make sure you get there early to nab a good seat. At a bigger name shows, a 5-minute delay could have you craning to see the onstage talent. Bathrooms here are tiny tiny tinyyyy, and if you're above the BMI for your height, you truly might have a hard time getting in through the doors. When evaluated against the competition, I think Comedy Loft comes out pretty solid.

Food looked good, and although I didn't try anything I mingled with fellow early arrivals and they all said the garlic wings were outstanding and one of the servers said the fried mozzarella sticks were their most popular item. Anyway, your group can reserve sections or you can come alone. There's a place for everyone and all are welcomed. FYI, there's a two "item" minimum required purchase, which can be food or beverage items. Key to know that you must order these in the comedy room that you'll be seeing the show, or it doesn't count towards the two item minimum. Anyway, cool place, comfortable seating, great service, and awesome comedy!

If you've never been, just know this isn't your typical theater outing--it's way more interactive, chaotic (in a good way), and just plain fun. When you walk in, there's a bar, but you don't order directly from it. Each seat has a QR code, and the staff delivers drinks right to you, which is super convenient. Once you enter the theater area, you're even given a complimentary shot to kick things off--great way to set the tone for the night. The venue itself is small and really intimate, which makes the whole experience better. There isn't a bad seat in the house. The seats along the stage are bench-style with cubbies underneath for your stuff, while the upper-level seating has stools set behind bookcases that wrap around parts of the stage. The drink menu includes themed cocktails, plus wine, beer, and spirits--expect to pay around $15 per drink. There are also light snacks, but portions are small and a bit pricey, so don't count on them to fill you up. If you do order food, the stools by the bookcases are definitely the best seats since you'll have a surface to put your plate on--otherwise, it's lap dining. As for the show itself, it was fantastic. There's a lot of audience participation, and the actors absolutely commit--including proving they're actually drinking. One thing I didn't realize beforehand is that not the entire cast drinks--there's usually one designated drinker, which honestly makes it even funnier and leads to some unforgettable moments. The performance is an abbreviated version of the story, mixed with plenty of local references that keep it fresh and relatable. The Drunk Shakespeare company also puts on other holiday-themed shows throughout the year, which is awesome. I'll definitely be back to check out Drunk Christmas Carol.
