Came here for a concert and loved that the venue is small so there is no bad seat. Unfortunately the sound/ acoustics were horrible, not sure if this was the band's fault or this location, but it was pretty terrible. The location is good, with a parking garage a couple of blocks away. Because of the proximity to the White House, there was a lot of security in the perimeter of the area which is a plus when walking at night. read more

Attended Michael McIntyre show. Venue is beautiful. Seats are comfortable. Parking options were scarce. Had to walk 8/10 of a mile to the hall. Entry was easy and staff were pleasant. Food is limited. Chicken wings, tenders, and fries. $20 for one serving. Drinks are ridiculous. Empty cup would be charged $8. Bottle of water $7, soda $8, alcohol $18. Extremely disturbed by security/bouncer seated in front of the stage "facing" the audience. He was messing around on his phone with his head down. The performer asked him once to put it away. He did for about five minutes AND THEN PULLED IT OUT AGAIN. The show stopped while Michael again (politely) confronted him. Mentioned the bright screen was distracting and that he was there for protection. The bouncer put his phone away but didn't look up, didn't apologize. He was asked to leave and didn't move. While I understand leaving his post would probably be worse, the venue didn't send anyone up there. Ultimately, Michael demanded he leave. DO BETTER DAR. He had ONE job...to watch the audience for everyone's protection. I have worked at Merriweather and the cardinal rule is to not watch the act, not have our personal devices out, and to remain alert. Not sure if I will go back. Heinous pricing and lax security do not endear me to them. read more

A beautiful venue in the heart of DC. I saw Hassan hares Ronny Ronny hates Hassan. It was a cleverly done show. The venue has tons of bathrooms!!! So there wasn't a wait at all even though this show was sold out! I love that! Getting to my seat was seamless and there was extremely attentive staff every step of the way to help. It was crowded because it was a sold out show but it was very well staffed and orderly. They had food options in the basement level and drinks on the main level. Looking forward to attending more shows here! read more

Security might as well not exist. The metal detector pinged as I passed through. The guard asked if had anything else. I said no. And was allowed to proceed. Acoustics are not the best either. Voices sound like they are talking via a tin can. Other theaters sound way better. Thankfully it was a stand up show we saw. A music act would have been ruined. read more

Lovely small venue! I have never been here before, but I believe there are no bad seats in the house. In the lower area they had beverage service as well, as some food. The food was catered in, and it was wings, and or chicken tenders with fries. Not a great food selection, but again they don't have a kitchen. Typical concert hall prices. read more

I came here last Saturday evening to see Distant Worlds Live, they were fantastic! However we are here to review DAR Constitution Hall itself. My first complaint is there's no indication where to go so you just have to assume that if there's a line you're in the right place. It'd be nice to just have a sign out where you can let others know you should be waiting right there before the show starts. And let me tell you about just walking in itself... yeah it's a chaotic mess. I'm not sure who thought it was a great idea to try to get 100+ people in all at the same time to buy merch/drinks/food in such short of a time span. That's just added unnecessary stress but it'd been a bit easier if we had more staff to help keep the line more organized. Luckily I was able to find my seat easily and I sat down in Row BB, in 103. It was a nice spot close to the front and overall I had a pleasant time. If you can get past that initial rush of people trying to get in before the show begins.. it's an overall decent experience. read more

Been here a couple times for events, graduations and concerts. It's somewhat nice, but it needs a make over, it gives me Oregon Trail vibes. It's not ADA friendly. 2024 and I think it's long overdue. Bathrooms on the main floor are one person stall. That should be reno to accommodate more people. However the employees here are very nice. To get I recommend taking metro. read more

Had tickets to see a show on a Saturday around 7 PM. Upon reaching the front entrance to the hall there were a few doors open with staff members directing patrons where to purchase tickets or enter with their tickets they already had, the process was quite fast since I had my tickets on my phone! When entering you could feel the history that DAR Constitution Hall had, I mean you could also feel it walking up those stairs outside too!!! The amount of staff that was working, there was no question that couldn't be answered LOL! They were nice and very attentive, greeting you before you even had the chance to greet them ! After letting one of the staff members know where I was suppose to be seated they directed me to the box I had tickets for, was kinda cramped sitting in a box that was maybe a 5x5, maybe? It was 4 of us and 5 seats so it was awkward seating, a lot of the boxes weren't taken up, thought about just moving but after seeing one of the people from my box get up before the show started to go get food and came back and being informed by staff that food wasn't allowed, I was kind of thrown off from even attempting to relocate myself to another box to get more comfortable since the staff strictly were enforcing rules I wasn't even aware of (I didn't order food). Inside the actual Hall where you view the show, the architecture was timeless, seeing the history in the pillars, the walls, the ceiling, it was like taking a step back in time. Huge venue, would love to see it fully packed next time I go! With the amount of seating they had available I'm surprised staff didn't accommodate patrons that were packed in those boxes the way they were. Besides that, the experience was a good one! Came here to see Colin Jost and Michael Che while they were on tour. It was my first time at the venue. Very cool to be surrounded by so much history, but the seating arrangement is very strange. We were on the side so we basically had to turn our entire bodies to sit sideways on the seat bc Althea seats don't face the stage (they're almost perpendicular). I didn't get a drink or food or anything, but they had a whole area down in the basement for that sort of thing. The bathrooms were pretty nice (there were a lot of them). My biggest complaint was the line to get into the venue. They were making folks put their phones into those lock bags so we couldn't record the show so it took almost an hour to get into the venue. We were lined up around the block and not given a whole lot of communication. Not sure if I'd be in a hurry to go back, but it is kinda cute and quaint read more

It was freezing cold outside but the staff moved fairly quickly. I went to see Andrew Schultz. I'm not sure if they served food but people seemed happy with their drinks. I didn't drink so... place was clean but I didn't use the restrooms to give an opinion. Very small place. It was my first time going so I thought I would have a bad seat based on the ticket description but I was fairly close to the stage to not be on the floor or in a box. I was in Row E section U. Andrew Schulz is by far the best comedian out. I don't care for your opinion lol just saying. read more

Great concert venue for sit down performances. Tips: Arrive early so you have time to get through the security and metal detectors. Staff is friendly, prompt and courteous. They want to get everyone in to see the show, quickly. Do not try to sneak in with your ticket at the Will-Call entrance to try and skip the ticket holders line. They will send you away, to the ticket holders line and you will have to walk to the very end!! Cash bar only for beverages and cocktails. There is an ATM money machine, but there is a long line to use it. BRING CASH!!! Drinks are about $8 - $10 each. Downstairs, they serve a few appetizers like chicken wings, maybe other items, not certain. I've been here about 6 times in my entire life for either award ceremonies of some sort, comedy shows and live concerts. If you are afraid of heights and don't like climbing stairs, get tickets on the floor or not too high up. The seating goes straight up, and the climb is steep. I took my mom to a concert once and wasn't aware of the climb to get to our seats so they helped us out and gave her like handicapped seating, no climb, which was close, but semi-obstructed view. Keep that in mind when purchasing tickets, carrying your drink up. I would prefer to arrive early, find my seat, put my jacket down, get situated, go to ladies room, get a soda or drink, then return to seat and enjoy the show. If you don't arrive early, it's like rush hour. Everyone arrives at the last minute and the show will start with or without you!!! Parking...there are plenty of parking lots nearby. However, many blocks away. Prepare to walk at least 6 city blocks, or .25 of a mile or longer. Closest metro is Farragut West, about .75 of a mile. Or, you may get lucky and find parking on the street. read more

Since my first review, Ive been back for a couple of other events of different types (a comedy show and a concert). These experiences confirmed my initial impressions but I saw a few more pros and cons. While this is a traditional old venue, the seating is pretty good... the seating isn't luxury, but the views are great from most seats, and being just on the upper side of six feet tall and having weirdly oversized feet, I could sit comfortably with enough leg room, foot room, shoulder room, etc. And the hallways and event area are very pretty. Previously unobserved con: They only have a few bar stands serving drinks at events where they have drinks, and while the service is very friendly and everyone works hard to serve people quickly, direct them on how to get the fastest service, etc., but it can still take a very long time, and they don't have speakers in the hallway or basement where the bars are for people to hear what's happening in the auditorium. I arrived well before the comedy show started and waited in line for so long that I missed both openers before getting my drinks. I would have bailed had it just been about the beer, but I badly needed a bottle of water and would have been uncomfortable through the show without it, so I had to stick out the insane line. Previously unobserved pro: Their employees are INCREDIBLY nice, helpful, and proactive in helping visitors. I kind of saw that the first time I visited, but attending a bigger event in the midst of Covid, it became a much bigger deal. I had a minor involuntary problem that could have been harder to handle in those circumstances, and one staffer immediately spotted my issue and jumped in to help, acting almost parental. They show actual concern for the people attending events there, and you don't get that at every venue. read more

Date Night part 2! Tix to see Trevor Noah which is the highlight of our week! He did not disappoint. As for the venue itself.... let me explain. Interior and exterior have a classic traditional look that fits being in the nation's capital. The stage area itself is spacious with a lot of seating on the orchestra floor and then upstairs on both sides. Sound reverberates due to the structure so you can hear what's happening. Makes laughing easier when the comedians do their material. Both bars (lounge and entrance) are cash only. This is the 2010's, no one carries cash anymore. Learn to take plastic! They could maintain some of the bathrooms; the men's lounge bathroom was missing soap in some dispensers and the air dryers didn't seem to work. That lead to wet door knobs which sounds the way it sounds as I typed it. Give some updates and renovations to this venue and it could be a must-visit venue. I'll come back to see shows here if the artist is worth it. But please no wet door knobs! read more

Beautiful historical venue that has a surprisingly large number of seats, and good acoustics. Because of its relatively small size, even nosebleed seats aren't that bad. The downside is that the bathroom is small and old. They had water all over the floor from an overflowing toilet when I was there and a very long line for the ladies room. Next time I'm going for an event, I'm going to arrive early as they have a museum that you can go through. Check their website for details. read more

Have been here atleast twice before (each for a comedy show) and each time was a great time. The staff is courteous and the venue is a decent size so that even seats to the side of the stage are still a fine view. The line for drinks always look long, but you'll get to the front in a reasonable amount of time. Tip: if pre-show it's too crowded for you upstairs, head downstairs where the bathrooms are; not only is there another bar down there but there's always less people Looking forward to my next show at the DAR! read more

The venue for the Avant, Mint Condition & Keith Sweat concert. We took a quick Uber ride from Farragut North Metro (Red Line), followed the loud chatter as there was another event taking place closer to the 17th/D intersection & up the ramp we arrived. Mirroring most concert halls that are part of a museum or civic centers, the space is decorated accordingly, a lot of Usher's on hand to assist, & a few refreshment pit stops throughout. The main snack & alcohol bar seems to be located on the lower level, same as the restrooms, yet then back up the stairs, around the way back down to where the stage is located. Perhaps better logistics, & more restroom options would be a plus. Concert Tidbits: M.C. put on good show, well front man Stokley Williams nonetheless. Cool surprise from Johnny Gill on stage, he still got it & K. Sweat may need to finish out his career on the leather couches he uses for his set design...his hype man put in the work. We had great seats, sound acoustics needed a slight helping hand, the Bartender with the never ending Dreds was overly accommodating & ended up having a good time. I will be back for more special events as well as visiting the museum. read more

Saw Jo Koy last night at DAR Constitution Hall. Great venue with lots of historic character. The restrooms are a little outdated and are mostly downstairs. The place is huge and accommodates a lot of people. Jo Koy is a Filipino American comedian and he put on a great show! Started at 7:30 pm with a 30 minute opening act. Then, Jo Koy came on stage and provided laughs for about 2 hours. Show ended at 10:00 pm. The closest metro station is probably Farragut West. Took public transportation and it was pretty convenient--about a 4-6 block walk from station. Parking is also available and there are limited parallel spaces nearby. Great venue! What a cool historic venue to catch a show, this building is so unique. Parking was available on the street which was awesome (Sunday show), and just walking up was pretty nice (attached pic). Greeted at door by staff and everyone was dressed nice and very friendly. Definitely a building full of history, the bad side is that it looks like it could use some attention, price u pay for being so old I guess. Two bars upstairs, and one downstairs. Food was very limited. Seating inside was good and fairly comfortable. The acoustics were decent and no obstructed view of stage (Sect P). The biggest issue was no matter where we stepped the floor inside the concert was extremely sticky, like get stuck sticky. Seemed like it was years of spilled drinks on the floor, at least we hope that is what it was read more

When we found out Bert Kreischer was coming into town we immediately bought tickets. Our seats were so great and it was a smaller venue so we were able to get super close. We weren't able to use the bathrooms on the main floor which was weird and made the other line for the one downstairs super long but it was whatever. Older venue and it's pretty nice looking but there are a few issues. There isn't a bad seat in the house on the floor level. It looks like some of the upstairs seats are situated so you have to turn your head, so keep that in mind and buy accordingly unless you want a visit to your chiropractor in the near future. The food and drink lines seemed to be cash only but I passed on that so I'm not sure. Also, the restrooms are downstairs down an old staircase and seem like they were built during the American Revolution and not updated since. It's a nice venue and I'd see a show there again but it's not exactly a state of the art experience here. read more

I was lucky enough to see President Obama speak here last month during the CRT 2018 conference. The venue is very elegant and even though I only had a general admission ticket my seats were excellent. I was in a side balcony front row. I was a bit surprised that there was no security at the door. I didn't even have to open my pocketbook, which I had to do at every Smithsonian Museum. There was however, security at the Medtronic Reception afterward....go figure. Nice place and the speaker was TOP NOTCH. read more

I finally experienced DAR Constitution Hall this year - NOT once - but twice! The acoustics in this place are awesome! I watched the U.S. Air Force Band perform with Joni James and then later in the program - a Scottish Bagpipe group from Texas named "The Rogues." It was really cool hearing the Air Force Band add their depth and complexity of sound to the The Rogues rousing bagpipe music! The Joni James part of the performance was not my cup of tea. She is a performer from years gone by - I'm guessing World War II era - interesting though - they used a picture of her for the advertisement when she was a young lady - but she now must be in her 70s or 80s. And it showed - her voice was no longer what it once was - but there were a lot of blue hairs in the audience that had come expressly to see her perform. The old couple sitting in front of me got up to leave when she was done performing - I asked if they were staying to hear the second part of the program - they were not. But I convinced them to stay and give it a listen. Afterwards I asked them what they thought - they thoroughly enjoyed the Rogues! Later in the year, I finally got to see Loreena McKennitt in concert! I've been waiting to see her perform for about 10 years! I was not disappointed! It was a magical and enchanting evening of music! I had box seats just above the floor seats - so the view was very nice! read more

I have been to DAR a few times for concerts and a few times for Shecky's girl's night out events. I would have to agree with many of my fellow Yelpers that it is not a place you want to skimp on the good seats if you want to see what is going on. However if you have good seats the show is incredibly intimate. One of the bands we saw took a selfie from the stage and when it posted, there we were 10 rows back: photobomb mission complete! Events that are thrown here (ex: Shecky's) do get rather hot, as they are in thrown in the hallway vs being in the concert hall. But they have a coat check by the bathrooms downstairs, so if you are prepared for this, you should be fine. It's a gorgeous building and there is ample street parking only a few blocks away if you decide not to Metro and walk. There are also ATMs on premises if you want a drink or snack before hand. read more

Nice medium concert hall. However I suspect the infrastructure is very old sitting under a newer remodeled facade. It's hard to get up and down stairs to the restrooms. And lines are long. The acoustics are pretty good and seating ok. We saw John Prine here and he put on a good show. It is just not intimate enough. It was cold outside and inside. But you gotta go with it if someone you wanna see is here. To catch a cab head towards the Washington monument and a Main Street. You will find one. read more

The DAR (Daughters of the American Revolution) Constitution Hall has been around since the late '20s and is a designated National Historic Landmark. The Will-call tickets are to be picked up at the box office on C Street, but if you have etickets on your phone, they're quickly scanned by the ushers. I recently came here to see one of my most favorite comedians ever, and we were able to snag box seats - just note that these are first-come, first-serve, as these are stand-alone chairs (5 total, where 2 have arm rests) - I recommend in coming earlier so you can get the ones in the front! The venue itself is smaller and more intimate, so either way, it seems as if everyone gets a good view of the stage. The sound/acoustics were good. The ushers are friendly and direct you to your seats efficiently; they are also pretty quick in 'grabbing' patrons who do not follow the 'no photography' rule (which applies to certain performances) . Restrooms are located downstairs; the men's are halfway down the stairs, and the women's are on the lowest level, across the food court area. There are small concession stands that offer alcoholic beverages, hot pretzels, etc. Parking is metered, limited, and restricted. +smaller and more intimate venue +try to go for the box seats! +limited and metered parking +Will-Call located on C St read more

I attended the Valentine's Soul Jam at DAR Constitution Hall. The featured acts were: The Manhattans; Blue Magic; Bloodstone; The Emotions; and The Stylistics. The sound, acoustics, and lighting were suitable at DAR Constitution Hall. The seats at the venue are small. During the intermission, there was a unusual long line at the rest rooms. I look forward to seeing the nostalgic musical artists at DAR Constitution Hall. read more

Saw The Head and the Heart here on Saturday. The show was phenomenal, though the experience was only decent. The venue is all seats - a good amount on the floor, some boxes, and an upper level. There's a pretty good view everywhere except for the upper level seats immediately to the left and right of the stage (where we sat). There, the view gets obstructed by sound equipment. A bunch of seats were left unfilled, so we were able to sneak into a box, which greatly improved the view. That being said, the EQ was almost comically bad throughout the show, to the point where I often couldn't tell what the words being sung were. No matter where you sit, the experience isn't really interactive, which is what I prefer in a concert/venue. Ushers are super helpful and were respectful to my boyfriend and me while we tried to find our seats. We didn't mess with the concessions/bar area, although we heard people complaining about the wait for drinks between acts. Parking is definitely tough - most garages are at least a half-mile walk away, and street parking is sometimes difficult to find. The DAR website suggests Colonial Parking on G St. NW, but it was closed the night of our show. read more
