It's easy to see why this is a local favorite and has great reviews. We headed in here at the request of one of my family members who's been before and wanted to take us. We were greeted right upon entry and there was plenty of seating around. They have a diverse menu with plenty of options for people who both enjoy spicy food and non-spicy food. They also have a full bar if you would like a drink. The overall ambience is very cantina like. They have wooden chairs wooden tables and a bar at the center. They do have some very colorful decor around as well. Staff was friendly throughout. I opted for the burrito and it was ginormous and I definitely couldn't finish all of it. Definitely well worth the price point for the amount of food that you're given. Everybody was very happy with their meals and drinks and I'll definitely be returning to this location. Rookies is right down the road from us and we are repeat customers. We go here at least once a month for our tacos & margaritas fix. Chips and salsa come out first, of course. It is always busy after work because the place is that good. On our recent visit we ordered a beef dip to have with the chips and salsa. They also have a tasty guacamole on the menu. For drinks we've gotten the pitcher of margaritas our last two visits and it really is the perfect amount for 2 or 3 people. Each person gets at least 2 glasses full which is a great value for the price. Things we like: Pastor Tacos, Nortenos Tacos, Tacos Gringos, queso dip, and the rice and beans with the main dish. Some friends and I stopped in on a weeknight. We were greeted cheerfully and seated quickly by our hostess. The inside decor is bright and festive. This is a great place for large groups. They have a vegetarian section of the menu and I ordered the veggie quesadilla. I love that they used a variety of vegetables (broccoli, onions, peppers, zucchini) and they were cooked perfectly without being too mushy or making the tortilla too soft. Each wedge stayed crispy and held together well in a buttery, toasted pocket of deliciousness. Everyone else enjoyed their meals as well. A bit of a hidden gem in a strip center in Longwood off 17/92. The restaurant is bigger than it appears from outside and decorated nicely. We arrived around 2 pm for a late lunch and were promptly greeted and seated at a spacious table for four. Our server took our drink orders and brought out chips and salsa. They also have a spicier salsa so don't forget to request it if you enjoy a bit of heat. Both are tasty. My mom and I both had the steak fajitas and Dad and Johnny the California Burrito. My fajitas were tender and well seasoned with carmelized onions and bell peppers. Both Dad and Johnny enjoyed their burritos but the flour tortilla wasgrilled a bit long making it hard to bite through and requiring a knife to cut. But reported them flavorful. Longwood-I've had this spot on my to do list for awhile. We felt like trying a new spot and this filled the bill for Mex food cravings. The host and waitress were both very kind and friendly. The place looks a little deserted when you first walk in. I was a little bit concerned but we decided to have a seat and check it out. Our drinks were REALLY good and had plenty of alcohol. I had the Cantarito and Hubby had a skinny margarita. I highly recommend the Cantarito. They have 4 different "dip" flavors. ****Suggestion #1-make a sampler platter for ALL 4 dips.**** I was not interested in trying the chorizo dip, but my husband was. I was more interested in the other three, but did not want to order another one. A sampler plate so people could taste all four would be perfect. He said the chorizo dip was delicious!! It was too spicy for me. Chips and salsa were delicious too. Not spicy at all. We tried the Corn Esquites. It was awful. Way over salted, and super watery. They needed to use fresh off the cob corn. Not frozen corn. (I inquired what kind of corn they use.) First entree was Pork fajitas. The dish was great! A LOT of meat instead of a lot of veggies. This was perfect. Definitely the way fajitas should be served. Don't get me wrong, there were plenty of veggies, but the meat definitely outweighed the vegetables. That is normally not the case when you go to a Mexican restaurant. Husband could've used a couple of more tortillas, but that was not a big deal. Second entree was the Enmoladas. The mole sauce was spectacular! ****Suggestion #2-Do NOT boil your chicken for the enchiladas. It makes for watery, tasteless chicken.**** Other than the watery chicken in the enchiladas, the dish was pretty good. I loved the guacamole, pico, and sour cream accompaniments. Beans and rice were good, not other worldly, but good. I would not recommend this dish because of the watery and tasteless chicken inside of the enchiladas. It really could've been so much better. My last review was 7 years ago, so it's time for an update! The decor is super cute and you're always greeted with a smile. They offer complimentary chips and salsa but make sure to ask for their rookies sauce (it's free). I love how they ask you how you'd like your steak cooked for the fajitas and I NEED TO KNOW what cheese they put in their quesadillas because I've never had anything like it and it's so delicious. Another fantastic visit to Rookies! We came in for a work lunch and had a lovely experience. Our waitress was wonderful and the service was fast. The restaurant was clean and beautiful. For appetizers, we got the ceviche, queso, and guacamole. The ceviche was delicious and not too citrusy. The guac was creamy and fresh. The queso was salty and rich. For my entree, I got the premium chimichanga with shredded beef. The portion is giant. The beef is so tender and packed with flavor. My husband and went to Rookies Cantina for early dinner Sunday. We've sat at the bar and ordered two margaritas which were excellent! We placed our order to share steak fajitas. After only a short wait, sizzling fajitas arrived. They were dropped off with no plates to eat on. No one in staff checked in with us for more than 25 minutes--a lot of them were in back leaving the bar area completely empty. We literally at our fajitas off our paper napkins! Finally, a staff member walked by and said, "it's good, right?" Like an after thought. I told her no. Absolutely unacceptable to have eaten fajitas off our napkins while no one bothered to check back to see how the meal was or even offer water. I asked to please to the manager. He came by. I explained. He asked if I wanted plates. 25 minutes after eating off napkins in a decent public restaurant. I told him no thank you--I'm happy to pay for the excellent margarita; however, no patron should be eating off napkins. And I told him he does not have food quality issue, he has a service issue. He said he'll talk to his staff and walked away. He brought the bill and discounted it $4. I paid and told him we'd never be back and I'd let people know about it. Decided to stop by Rookies tonight as my boyfriend wanted carne asada tacos, and I've had rookies before (albeit only the beef and chicken tacos/quesadillas). I ordered 3 ground beef tacos, and 3 carne asada tacos. Which came with beans, Spanish rice, and I also ordered a side of queso with chips. The food was prepared quickly, costing less than $35. The waitress who assisted me was an absolute delight. When I arrived home, I ate one ground beef taco, and my boyfriend ate his carne asada tacos. We consumed half the queso dip, and all of the rice beans. The next 3 hours were the absolute worse time of my boyfriends life. He began to feel sweaty, and shaky. Regularly running to the restroom and complaining of stomach pains. Next, his temperature elevated, and we could not keep him cool enough. Lastly, around 6 hours later, he began vomiting and having chills. I did not experience any of this, and did not eat any of his carne asada tacos as I was full from my one ground beef. We ate nothing else that day, besides some grilled cheese and tomato soup I made for lunch around 5 hours prior to this meal. We will not be returning, and if we decide to, we will skip the carne asada. read more

I got the steak chimichanga and it was delicious , the meat was seasoned well , and chimichanga fried to a golden brown. I always love eating here so of course for Cinco De Mayo Rookies Cantina is the place I chose to celebrate. I will say because they hired a third party to help I had a little hick up getting a table but by no means was it their fault. For it being Cinco De Mayo they did an amazing job accommodating and serving the amount of people that came to celebrate. Once we were seated our server Maleja was amazing! She went above and beyond to make our night great. She was so friendly, fast and also made requests for the DJ whenever I had a song that I wanted to hear. (The DJ was there for Cinco De Mayo) Also, once Allen heard of our little hick up he was so nice and helpful it made any negativity go away. The drinks are amazing here! There are only two drinks I ever order and live by, the guava margarita and Don Julio 1942 shots. Honestly no matter what drinks you get they are amazing, strong and get you ready for a great time. We got nachos as our appetizer and honestly you can't go wrong! Flavorful and delicious but not filling. It's a great way to start your meal. I tried something different last night. Usually I get the Nortenos Tacos because they are so good!! But I wanted to try their enchiladas so I got the enchiladas verde and they did not disappoint! They were so flavorful I might actually have a new favorite dish. My daughter got the cheesy enchiladas and while they were very good she preferred my enchiladas verde so we traded. I'm telling you the enchiladas verde is so good you have to try! My husband and son got their burrito and really enjoyed it. It's a good size so don't worry about leaving hungry. My youngest daughter got their macaroni and cheese and I know once she saw our food she regretted her decision, but she enjoyed her classic meal. I will always eat at Rookies Cantina. First time I have been to this business since it was switched from a previous Mexican restaurant. The ambiance here is great lots of decor and the choice of food is pretty good. The menu offers many different things but once of my favorite Mexican meals is Enchiladas and to drink is Agua de Horchata. The enchiladas (de Molle ) were delicious and it came with yellow rice and black beans, the price for what you get is reasonable. The service was good and the waitress took good care of our party of 11, she was always making sure we had what we needed but the only thing I didn't like about eating here was that they had zero AC and it was very hot and hard to eat and feel relaxed. Over all I recommend checking this place out , the food and the decor inside is nice and the employees are nice they also have a little shop right when you walk in and a bar if you just want a quick meal with a beer. read more
