Don Julio Mexican Kut hen & Tequila Bar is an overall fun place to grab a meal and dine in an upbeat atmosphere with friendly service and is conveniently located in a shopping plaza so parking should not be an issue. The menu does not stray far from the usual offerings found in countless Mexican restaurants, but that is not really an issue. There is a reason that these foods are beloved and so popular across the United States. I would even go as far as saying that Mexican food is one of my favorite cuisines and is probably the type of cuisine that I dine out at the most across the board. I went with a burrito and overall, it was pretty good. If you are in Lake Mary, Florida and craving Mexican food, this is a good option. It is also not far off of the highway if you are traveling and want a pitstop for a meal. Overall, I will give it four stars.

What a beautiful makeover of the entire place

When I first moved to New Mexico I was hell bent on finding good food that compared to the delicious NM cuisine. At first I was a little disappointed but after giving them a few more times, I've become absolutely OBSESSED. Their carne asada anything (enchilada, California burrito, tacos) is drool worthy The margaritas are strong and the food is delicious

Stopped by on a Sunday night and it was definitely busy, which gave the place a lively energy right away. Parking was easy since it's located in a shopping plaza, which is always a plus. Vibe & Drinks The vibe and ambiance are fun and social -- a great spot for groups. The drink menu is extensive with a lot of creative options, though some cocktails are on the pricier side. The mocktails leaned very sweet and juice-forward, which may be a bit much depending on your preference. Service & Starters Service was friendly but a bit slow, likely due to how busy it was. Once our food order was placed, everything arrived quickly, and the food runners were very attentive -- keeping our table clean. Every table is served complimentary chips and salsa, which was appreciated and a nice way to start the meal. Food The food was decent overall, though a bit underwhelming for the price point. * Carne Asada: Cooked well, good flavor, and a generous portion. * Shrimp Quesadilla: A little plain; the shrimp was slightly soggy and didn't stand out. * Al Pastor Tacos: Flavorful meat, though slightly salty -- still enjoyable overall. Final Thoughts This feels like a great place to grab drinks and hang out with friends rather than a must-visit for the food alone. That said, if the prices were more in line with the food, I'd easily give 4 stars. They offer a weekday happy hour, and I've heard good things about their lunch options, so I'd be open to coming back to try those. A fun, energetic spot with plenty of potential for casual nights out.

I've only been here about four times in the last couple years but the food here is always good. We had a party of 10. Service was fast and friendly.

Another great experience with Juliana or Juanita (I'm sorry I forgot her name)! I ordered the salmon that came with a mango-habanero sauce and my fiance ordered the chicken enchilada. Paired with a 32oz Modelo. Glad this is our local Don Julio spot!

Carnitas were delicious

We stopped in to Don Julio's to celebrate a friend's 60th birthday with a group of 8. I have to say that service here was exceptional. Nancy and I were running a bit late because I was stuck at work for an emergency. When we arrived, our group were working on appetizers and placed their orders a few minutes earlier. Staff were extremely accommodating - delivered our drinks and promptly placed our orders. Amazingly our orders were out about 10-minutes after all of our friend's orders arrived, which is unheard of. Our server Emiliano L. must have gone out of his way to fast-track our two entrées to make that happen which we really appreciate, thank you Emiliano! Nancy decided on the Aguacates Rellenos with Grilled Chicken ($12), and I chose the Carnitas with Flour Tortillas ($21), I also ordered a Yuengling bottle ($6). I have never seen the Aguacates Rellenos before but its basically two avocado halves stuffed with the meat of your choice (grilled chicken, steak, shrimp, or sweet plantains) served with a portion of cilantro rice and chipotle sauce. I didn't get to try the dish but my wife seemed to have no complaints. The Carnitas were excellent. The roast pork was moist and flavorful the pickled onions on top was a nice touch, the refried beans, fresh romaine, sour cream, Mexican rice, and pickled jalapenos were a perfect match with the flour tortillas to make my mini tacos, they also provided a side of hot sauce from the kitchen which was actually quite spicy and had great flavor; made for a great taco! The restaurant was very busy on this Thursday evening, yet staff kept everything clean and orderly even the restrooms. My only complaint is that they tack-on an automatic 20% gratuity to parties larger than 6. Emiliano was exceptional so he definitely deserved the 20%; however, I believe this should be lowered somewhere between 15%-18% because that is the standard. If the customer feels that the server went above and beyond, they can increase using the suggested additional tip recommendations on the kiosk. Other than that, I would recommend Don Julio's for anyone looking for good Mexican food in the area.

pork carnitas chimichanga,

Went for lunch, food was great, presentation was very nice, atmosphere was nice. Would recommend trying this restaurant. Very good!

Nice airy cool booth by entrance but Hostess is giving me attitude for wanting this booth... WHY....?
Rafael S.

Second visit here because my friend likes it... Our Server was very nice (Lily), however the front desk Hostess gave me an attitude because I chose to seat at a booth rather than the table she wanted... WHY...? Food is good; try the crispy Cheesy Birria. The Passion Fruit frozen Margarita was also good, but my glass cracked and broke without touching it. They immediately gave me a new drink, but Wow! Ambiance is fine but the hostess sets a bad mood.

"Signature" chimichanga

This is supposed to be a signature chimichanga. My wife brought it home as a to-go order because I wasn't able to join her and my son at the restaurant. Needless to say, it was not edible. It was slimy and cold and generally disgusting. That's what you get for $15 I guess these days

Enchiladas Rancheras

We went on a Saturday evening and the place was packed, but we were seated right away with a party of 4. The restaurant itself was very loud and it was hard to hear anyone else. It definitely had a very lively atmosphere, but not a good place to go if you are hoping to have good conversations. Our waitress was very friendly though and even with how crowded it was service was very quick The food was tasty and on par with other Mexican restaurants I have been to in the area! I wouldn't say it is anything special, but if you are craving Mexican it will definitely hit the spot. I later saw that they are known for their Birria, so that is likely what I will try next time. I got the Enchiladas Rancheras which were yummy and filled me up. The chicken and veggies are all on top, with the enchiladas being filled with cheese. I loved the Mexican rice that was served on the side! Overall, we had a good meal, just wish the music was a bit quieter. The food is average and will definitely leave you feeling satisfied.

Don Julio's was great. I really enjoyed the meal. I ordered the don julio nachos with steak.

Shrimp Ajillo with green rice and avocado lettuce
Rita T.

Service was prompt. The food came out pretty quickly. The new shrimp with garlic ajillo was delicious. The Mexican Street Corn is so cute and delicious. The fajita skillet was piping hot when it came to the table and it was a generous portion. The place is super clean and bright. It has a modern Mexican vibe.

Spicy margarita

Samir was the best bartender ever When I sat down I asked him what the best marg was and he had a suggestion right of bat, And when I couldn't decide of hibiscus or spicy he chose for me, His customer service and attention beats any restaurant in the area If you come to don julios I suggest sitting with him at the bar over at a server at a table

I was thinking of taking my friend here for his birthday-would this be a nice dinner date spot option or more like a bar ? neither of us are big drinkers

This is a great birthday spot but depends what you are looking for. Great food, drinks and party vibes but drinking not required:) Can be loud and crowded. Order the table side guac, quesadillas and street tacos!

We have some favorite staff there including the always present and hardworking manager, Morse. Kaitlyn is also a fav of ours. Even when she's not our server she always comes over to say hi. We prefer sitting outside on the patio, tends to be less noisy. When there are large crowds inside, the echoing gets to be a bit much. They offer military discount and have a frequent eater program.

The hostess, Tamia, was in the process of cleaning it but still took a moment to acknowledge us and let us know she would be right with us, which I appreciated. While we waited, more parties came in and the line quickly grew toward the door. There were other staff members nearby, but no one stepped in to help seat guests or manage the wait, which made things move slower than expected. Once we were seated, it took a while for our waiter to come to the table. The hostess actually came back to check on us and ask if we had been helped yet, which stood out. When our waiter did arrive, the first thing he mentioned was that last call would be soon since they close at 10. We had arrived around 9, so we went ahead and ordered both drinks and food at the same time. Service throughout the meal was slow. We ordered the trio for the table, and I got the puffy tacos, one beef and one chicken, with black beans and rice. My son ordered a chicken quesadilla, and another person in our party ordered street corn, birria tacos, and a passionfruit margarita. It took a while for the food to come out, and when it did, we didn't have any silverware. Our waiter didn't come back for a while, so we had to flag someone down just to be able to start eating. The trio was the highlight of the meal. The guacamole, salsa, and queso were all really good and definitely something I would order again. The rest of the food was just okay. The chicken taco lacked seasoning, while the beef taco was a bit over seasoned for my taste. The beans had an unusual flavor, and the rice tasted like it had been sitting for a while, which may have been due to the late hour. My son said the quesadilla was good. The birria tacos had a decent amount of meat, but the flavor was closer to roast beef than what you would expect from traditional birria. The passionfruit margarita was just okay and wasn't filled all the way to the top, which was noticeable. For the price, the overall experience didn't quite match the quality of the food and service. Between the slow service and inconsistent dishes, I would likely not return for a full meal. However, I would consider stopping by for takeout of the trio since that was the standout. The restaurant is decorated beautifully, the staff are super friendly, efficient, and everything was clean. The menu is presented via electronic tablet, which was a unique experience, but I can only imagine this is expensive for the business to maintain. Regardless, I prefer this versus large paper menus or scanning a QR code to look up the menu. I decided on the Carnitas Fajitas for lunch which came to $14. This is a bit expensive for lunch but I did order Fajitas, so that's my bad, lol! The dinner portion is $22.50 which actually is priced competitively to other restaurants in the area. They do offer more affordable lunch options, but I decided to splurge a little. Our food was out in about 15 minutes and my fajitas were sizzling hot just the way I like them. It was well worth the $14 and I was stuffed most of the day after devouring this plate along with all the chips, salsa, and queso. There were four of us in the party and everyone was happy with their meal. Great Job Zacapa Team, we will be back soon!

Not overpowering but the reassuring smell that they take food safety seriously. They are located in a Publix shopping plaza and have booths, tables and a bar with stools. I ordered the lunch ribeye and the lunch chicken fajitas. The fajitas came out in the traditional sizzling presentation. They tasted as good as they looked with all the fixings. The steak was for later. A lot of time a thin lunch steak does not come out to a medium rare. This was spot on and the steak was juicy and tender. A really good steak! Both meals came with tortillas that maybe were homemade? The server greeted me and took my order right away. I had asked for some modifications and I thought it was nice she repeated them back to me so the kitchen would get it right. My bill was presented and quickly processed on a handheld device.
