My dad has been going to Joe for decades (even before he started Roo Automotive) and so I began going to him once I started driving (11 years ago). Joe is super honest and he has a lot of experience. I would recommend Joe to anyone. Two awesome experiences with Joe as our mechanic: 1.) One time our car battery was repeatedly getting drained and the car wouldn't start. We would jump start it, run it for a while and it would be good. Then after it sat for several hours, the car wouldn't start. It had a brand new alternator. Joe worked on it for a few days, charged the battery, but he couldn't figure out the issue. He didn't charge me for the work because he didn't fix anything. We later found out it was our aftermarket DVD player draining power. 2.) The carburetor in my dad's truck needed to get replaced. He first went to the dealership and they told him it was no longer under warranty and that it would be several hundred dollars to replace. He went to Joe next. Joe was aware of a specific warranty coverage for carburetors listed in the owner's manual and pointed it out to my dad. He took his truck back to the dealership and was able to get it replaced under warranty. read more

Fantastic mechanic if you're willing to spend double what you need to on parts. I came to Roo with a broken down car. I ended up paying almost $2500. After reading all of these reviews I trusted Roo and figured my super jacked up car justified the price. Months down the line I ended up calling up a Honda parts dealer to get a quote on some of these parts and it turns out Roo had inflated the price by about 100-120%. The dealership I bought the car from said they could have fixed the car for half (if not even less) than what Roo charged. Oh, and the labor charges weren't even included in Roo's overpriced parts. Now I'm waist-deep in debt because of the loan I had to take out to pay for the repairs. Yes, they're thorough. But get quotes elsewhere before going to Roo. Later Edit: I received a voicemail from Joey at Roo. I'm sorry, but this whole ordeal has been such a hassle that I don't want to deal with it anymore. I appreciate all the work your crew put into my car, I really do. I appreciate that you lowered the amount I paid for labor (even though I feel like $1000 is still a bit much?). I talked to Honda directly about their parts so I don't see how any explanation would fix this. Thank you for all of your hard work on my car, but my opinion and review still stands. read more

Joey is the most honest and trustworthy mechanic I have ever dealt with! Our whole family brings cars here and not only do we trust him 100%, he does a fantastic job with all of our cars. A great example: My 16 year old son brought his 85 Volvo in to another shop closer to our house for an oil change and they told him he need an expensive repair on his brakes. When I spoke to this other shop they told me my son would be in danger if we didn't do as they advise. It's unanimous! Roo Automotive does a fine job at a fair price. I had the transmission fluid exchanged with a new filter and fuel filter. Joey did the job on time and at budget. As he was closing up the car he noticed a very slight rattle. I couldn't hear it at all. He quickly found a loose spark plug and tightened it wiki-wiki. The Blazer runs better now. I was lucky to find a regular shop in my old home town, Truckee. After we moved I didn't think I'd find another. I was wrong. We are now regulars. read more

I would not recommend calling and getting an estimate over the phone nor using this place. I called to get an estimate to check a few things I was concerned about with my car. I was given an estimate and then when I took it in was told no it would be at least $135 more than the original $125 I was quoted on the phone. When I explained that this was the estimate I was given it was just too bad that was the price. I can't see paying close to $300 just to find out what is wrong with my car. I was also told they were only in for 2 hours on a Saturday suggesting that was another reason for the extra charges. Again, I would not use this business. My experience was extremely bad. read more

How I found Roo Automotive - I took my car to the dealership to replace my driver's side visor. The dealership tried to convince me I needed $450 more work done than just my visor being replaced. My friend suggested I have Joey look at my car. I took my car to him the next day and he told me I didn't need any of that work done. Thank goodness I stood my ground at the car dealership and requested only the visor be replaced. Oh, and by the way, the dealership replaced my driver's side visor and it fell off as I was leaving their parking lot! I had to turn around and make them fix it. I have never known an honest mechanic until I met Joey. I don't have to worry about the nickel and dime details with him. If he recommends I need the work done, I know it is bad. I have had my car(s) into many mechanics and it seems as though they always try to talk in ways that should scare you. Not so with Roo Automotive. They tell it like it is, and many times they have told me the problem and given me suggestions that I "don't need to fix it right away". Joey is the most honest mechanic I've known. I brought my car in for a 60k mile inspection and fully expected to have to do everything such as new drive belts, change the rear differential fluid, automatic transmission flush, coolant flush, new brakes, etc. Basically everything the owners manual recommended at 60k miles. Joey didn't didn't BS me and let me know everything still looked great except for a slight wobble in the front. So I elected to have the front rotors ground down and tires rebalanced. Just wanted to share this with everyone, I have a 2017 Honda Pilot and last year with just over 30;000 miles and of course just past the warranty my air conditioning unit stopped working. I went to Joey to see if he could fix it, he called me and told me that it was to new and I should take it to the dealer and tell them this is not right and they should fix it. When I took it there they said they could not help me and needed to contact Honda America which I did, it did not go well with me saying a few choice words. Not knowing what else to do I called Joey again and asked what I should do? He could have said hey I don't know you and don't have time for you. Instead he took the time to talk with me, be calm and see what they were willing to do. The Honda dealership and I were able to come to an agreement with me paying a fraction of the cost thanks to Joey's recommendations, I will continue taking my vehicles to Roo's Automotive. read more
