Integrity, knowledgeable, honest, cost-effective. All words I have personally used to describe Joey and everyone that works along side him. I met him through my Dad many years ago and have been happy to bring my cars to him ever since. I know I can trust an intelligent assessment and a fair price for whatever I bring his way. At Roo's they truly seem to care about their customers and work very hard to earn your trust. I would recommend calling ahead for an appointment if you can because they tend to be busy with a lot of loyal customers. But I've personally never known Joey to turn any job away. read more

This is the most trustworthy and competent repair shop that I have ever had the privilege to do business with. Joey is an absolutely outstanding professional and just a good person. He was thorough in his assessment, discussion of my car's issues, and the actual repair. I have never been in better hands. He will have all of my business going forward because I know he will treat me very fairly on price, only fix what's wrong and will do it in a timely manner. I am shocked that there still businesses out there that are this good. The best repair service I have ever experienced. read more

Honest, reliable, fair prices! I take all my cars there. I had a great mechanic but he left his shop and the new owner would not give me his number. I was reluctant to go another mechanic but after reading the reviews at Yelp and Next Door I agree and all these people were right. read more

oh, this is a great, honest and helpful auto repair place. I've had much work done here - including a jammed window repair to regular maintenance, to struts repair-and all I can say is that I am always pleased with the results, Joey, Christy, and Juan and the others are honest, highly skilled, knowledgeable, and always ready to explain what the issues are with the car. They are organized and good people. Thank you Roo automotive. read more

I have only good things to say about Joey and his crew at Roo Automotive. Honest, fair, kind and the speed of service was excellent. You feel really welcomed in his shop. I brought my dog along with me and my dog loves him as well! They say dogs are good judges of character! You won't be disappointed at Roo's Automotive. If you have any issues with your car, do not hesitate to go to there. read more

I brought my Acura MDX to Roo after dealing with the Acura dealer over and over. Joey took great care of me. Told me what needs to be done. Also explained that it was a dealer issue and I should go back to them for the repair. I did, and there was no charge to me (under warranty). He is honest and very communicative. I will be going back to Roo for any further repairs needs on my car. read more

I won't take my Honda Accord anywhere else. I am so happy to have found Joey. I found him when he was at the Chevron station on Poway Rd. I have been with him for years. I always feel I get exactly what is needed for a fair price. He is an honest man. He will not sell you something you don't need. read more

My dad has been going to Joe for decades (even before he started Roo Automotive) and so I began going to him once I started driving (11 years ago). Joe is super honest and he has a lot of experience. I would recommend Joe to anyone. Two awesome experiences with Joe as our mechanic: 1.) One time our car battery was repeatedly getting drained and the car wouldn't start. We would jump start it, run it for a while and it would be good. Then after it sat for several hours, the car wouldn't start. It had a brand new alternator. Joe worked on it for a few days, charged the battery, but he couldn't figure out the issue. He didn't charge me for the work because he didn't fix anything. We later found out it was our aftermarket DVD player draining power. 2.) The carburetor in my dad's truck needed to get replaced. He first went to the dealership and they told him it was no longer under warranty and that it would be several hundred dollars to replace. He went to Joe next. Joe was aware of a specific warranty coverage for carburetors listed in the owner's manual and pointed it out to my dad. He took his truck back to the dealership and was able to get it replaced under warranty. read more

I highly recommend Roo Automotive and the owner Joey and the rest of the mechanics. Great service, fair price, and honest. I first came to know Joey through my father who meet him via a neighbor's recommendation. I have now brought Joey four/five vehicles I have owned. He was very honest about every one of them. Telling what I needed and what I really didn't need or to sell the car, b/c repairs would be more. If you are looking for a reliable and honest mechanic Roo Automotive and Joey is the place. read more

Joey is honest and reliable - he's the only one I trust to keep my old car in great condition. Luckily, I don't have to see him very often since he does such a great job, but if I ever need a mechanic, he's the one to call. read more

You'd be crazy NOT to take your car here! Joey and Juan are the best in the business. I've had really bad experiences with mechanics and now I just roll up, hand them my credit card, and tell them to do what they gotta do. Of course Joey always insists on calling me first to get approval anyway. LOL! Seriously. It's a no-brainer. The two best and most honest mechanics in town. And I drive up from downtown to have them take care of my car for 9+ years now! read more

I noticed some leaking. I got an oil change to see if they could determine where the leak was coming from. Transmission fluid that they couldn't address but referred me to a specialist. Roo didn't send me off without topping off my transmission fluid. Thank you for caring. read more

Joey took care of our 3 SUV's over the past decade like they were his own. I always felt that he had our best interests in mind - and absolutely know he didn't do work that didn't need to be done. Moving out to another State but if you are able, drive to Roo for service. read more

Fantastic mechanic if you're willing to spend double what you need to on parts. I came to Roo with a broken down car. I ended up paying almost $2500. After reading all of these reviews I trusted Roo and figured my super jacked up car justified the price. Months down the line I ended up calling up a Honda parts dealer to get a quote on some of these parts and it turns out Roo had inflated the price by about 100-120%. The dealership I bought the car from said they could have fixed the car for half (if not even less) than what Roo charged. Oh, and the labor charges weren't even included in Roo's overpriced parts. Now I'm waist-deep in debt because of the loan I had to take out to pay for the repairs. Yes, they're thorough. But get quotes elsewhere before going to Roo. Later Edit: I received a voicemail from Joey at Roo. I'm sorry, but this whole ordeal has been such a hassle that I don't want to deal with it anymore. I appreciate all the work your crew put into my car, I really do. I appreciate that you lowered the amount I paid for labor (even though I feel like $1000 is still a bit much?). I talked to Honda directly about their parts so I don't see how any explanation would fix this. Thank you for all of your hard work on my car, but my opinion and review still stands. read more

Joey runs a great business and is truly just a great person in general. He treats his customers as he would like to be treated himself. Like the prior reviews state he is super honest and trustworthy. My bill has always been less than estimated!!! When does that ever happen in life? I have referred many friends and loved ones to which all have had great experiences. Good karma my friend and I appreciate your knowledge and great services! read more

Joey is the most honest and trustworthy mechanic I have ever dealt with! Our whole family brings cars here and not only do we trust him 100%, he does a fantastic job with all of our cars. A great example: My 16 year old son brought his 85 Volvo in to another shop closer to our house for an oil change and they told him he need an expensive repair on his brakes. When I spoke to this other shop they told me my son would be in danger if we didn't do as they advise. Well, we brought it to Joey and he informed us the brakes were fine and we had another 6,000 miles on them! Amazing! It's not often you find someone as honest as Joey let along a mechanic. Roo Automotive will be the only place I will ever go! read more

I've said it before and I will continue to say, I'm a customer for life! Joey and his crew are the most honest and talented mechanics I have ever had. Now I've got my kids taking their cars to him! So glad I found you Joey, you are the best!!! read more

It's unanimous! Roo Automotive does a fine job at a fair price. I had the transmission fluid exchanged with a new filter and fuel filter. Joey did the job on time and at budget. As he was closing up the car he noticed a very slight rattle. I couldn't hear it at all. He quickly found a loose spark plug and tightened it wiki-wiki. The Blazer runs better now. I was lucky to find a regular shop in my old home town, Truckee. After we moved I didn't think I'd find another. I was wrong. We are now regulars. read more

I would not recommend calling and getting an estimate over the phone nor using this place. I called to get an estimate to check a few things I was concerned about with my car. I was given an estimate and then when I took it in was told no it would be at least $135 more than the original $125 I was quoted on the phone. When I explained that this was the estimate I was given it was just too bad that was the price. I can't see paying close to $300 just to find out what is wrong with my car. I was also told they were only in for 2 hours on a Saturday suggesting that was another reason for the extra charges. Again, I would not use this business. My experience was extremely bad. read more

This is the only place I will take my car for maintenance. Joey and crew do a great job and the price is great. Roo Automotive is more than fair and I trust them. How I found Roo Automotive - I took my car to the dealership to replace my driver's side visor. The dealership tried to convince me I needed $450 more work done than just my visor being replaced. My friend suggested I have Joey look at my car. I took my car to him the next day and he told me I didn't need any of that work done. Thank goodness I stood my ground at the car dealership and requested only the visor be replaced. Oh, and by the way, the dealership replaced my driver's side visor and it fell off as I was leaving their parking lot! I had to turn around and make them fix it. Roo Automotive is the only place I will take my car for maintenance and repairs. read more

I have never known an honest mechanic until I met Joey. I don't have to worry about the nickel and dime details with him. If he recommends I need the work done, I know it is bad. I have had my car(s) into many mechanics and it seems as though they always try to talk in ways that should scare you. Not so with Roo Automotive. They tell it like it is, and many times they have told me the problem and given me suggestions that I "don't need to fix it right away". In some cases it was something that never needed fixed and didn't affect the car, it was merely cosmetic. I will never let another mechanic touch my cars. Joey and his team at Roo Automotive are amazing. read more

I've taken my car to these guys a few times when my check engine light came on. They checked it out for free and told me where to go since it wasn't something they handled. I felt that Joey was really honest and went above and beyond when trying to help me. I highly recommend these guys! read more

I wouldn't trust my car with anyone else. Joey is very kind and impeccably honest.

I've taken my cars to Joey for about the last 15 years. He has never steered me wrong!! He kept my old Camry running past its time, and never pushed to do work that wasn't essential. He has always been ethical and honest and I would never take my car to anyone else! read more

Finally, an honest mechanic! Joey's the first mechanic I've dealt with in a long time that didn't try to fix extra stuff on the car or try to convince me to replace something that didn't need to be replaced. He simply diagnosed the problem, quoted a reasonable price and fixed it quickly. That's my kind of service. I'll be back for everything I need done in the future. Highly recommended! read more

Joey is the most honest mechanic I've known. I brought my car in for a 60k mile inspection and fully expected to have to do everything such as new drive belts, change the rear differential fluid, automatic transmission flush, coolant flush, new brakes, etc. Basically everything the owners manual recommended at 60k miles. Joey didn't didn't BS me and let me know everything still looked great except for a slight wobble in the front. So I elected to have the front rotors ground down and tires rebalanced. Very fair prices and quick work. I would highly recommend Roo. read more

We all recommended him without reservation, as a matter of fact he is referred to as the best thing that happened to us car repair wise, ever! I've known Joey since he was 25 years old and working for my dad on Texas St. Best and most honest mechanic then, best and most honest mechanic now. He worked for my parents in 2 different shops before starting his own business. My mom still takes her car to him for repairs. Reviews are true. He is a truly unique and exceptionally caring human being. Vets and demands the same values of anyone who steps foot in his shop. I can fully endorse, albeit all the way from Miami now. read more

Just wanted to share this with everyone, I have a 2017 Honda Pilot and last year with just over 30;000 miles and of course just past the warranty my air conditioning unit stopped working. I went to Joey to see if he could fix it, he called me and told me that it was to new and I should take it to the dealer and tell them this is not right and they should fix it. When I took it there they said they could not help me and needed to contact Honda America which I did, it did not go well with me saying a few choice words. Not knowing what else to do I called Joey again and asked what I should do? He could have said hey I don't know you and don't have time for you. Instead he took the time to talk with me, be calm and see what they were willing to do. The Honda dealership and I were able to come to an agreement with me paying a fraction of the cost thanks to Joey's recommendations, I will continue taking my vehicles to Roo's Automotive. read more
