After purchasing our home four years ago in Leland, NC, our Lennox MDP 33 series gas fireplace as very had to light! After service and cleaning, it failed to light all togeher! We called three service companies and finally settled on Ronsfireside since their service was offered promptly and the most reasonable! If I could give more than 5 stars for Ron's Fireside Shop I would. We just completed a major project where we replaced the fireboxes of our inside (living room) and outside (covered porch) fireplaces. From start to finish, Ron and Mary were knowledgeable and professional, and were a pleasure to do business with. The showroom in Castle Haynes is top notch and we were able to view and select our new fireboxes, mantels and stone for the living room fireplace wall. Matt and Jeremy, who installed the fireboxes, had extensive knowledge of the product and manufacturers installation requirements, and were able to easily navigate through several difficult issues specific to our project. I just got off the phone with Joe-after doing a Google search for 30 minutes trying to find someone who can repair a propane fireplace that has been unusable for over 5 years. While they are unable to help because they don't service this type of fireplace, as well as they are so busy they are booking after the next year, Joe was so kind and spent over 15 minutes with me on the phone. He explained what I need to do and who I can call. He even offered to find what I was looking for and call me back if he had any options for me. We needed a fireplace repair and tried several fireplace shops in the Wilmington area over several months. One shop didn't return phone calls, another shop came to our house to see our fireplace, said it can't be repaired, we need a new fireplace and hit us with a $99 charge that they neglected to mention at the time of the appointment. We finally found Ron's Fireplace. We went to their shop to purchase a new fireplace. Mary suggested sending a service tech to our house to see if it could be repaired instead of having to buy a new fireplace. Jeff, the service tech, came to our house, said it could be repaired, ordered three parts, the parts were in within a week, he came back to our house, repaired it in a few hours. This company is a joke. I live in an older home downtown Wilmington with 2 fireplaces that are not "fire ready", so I called these guys out so they could inspect them and possibly get a quote for getting them up and running. They said it would be $150 for the visit and inspection. I thought that was a little steep, but figured it would be worth it to get them checked. Two guys showed up and spent less than 5 minutes (total) looking at the fireplaces. Since we were inside, I offered to show them the top of the chimney that goes through the attic as they didn't show a lot of interest in actually going on the roof. He poked his head in and for a few seconds and declared that it would be at least $10,000 to fix up. I wasn't ready to spend that kind of money, so I halted any "fixing". He offered to clean up one of our fireplaces that had been used by a previous owner and cap the gas line as I was about to have a baby crawling around. He said he'd do it for $150 and it'll look like new. Again, I thought that sounded steep, but I figured these guys knew what they're doing. I hear a vacuum cleaner going and it sounds like they're doing their thing. About 5 minutes later he hands me a bill for $300...um what? I look at the fireplace and as far as I could tell, they vacuumed up a bit and put a little screw top on the gas line. The fireplace still looked as dirty as ever, but I figured if these "experts" couldn't get it any cleaner, those darker stains must be permanent. I was fairly unhappy with their $300 results, but I reluctantly paid. Later that day, I took a closer look at the fireplace and whipped my finger across the darker, areas and realized that they didn't touch it. The darker areas we only soot and could easily be cleaned up in these lazy guys had any intention. I blame my self for not looking closer, but I wanted to put the word out that these guys should be avoided. I searched around and also found another complaint online. Ron's did a beautiful job installing a gas log system in our historic home. Ron Jr. helped us find the ideal solution that fit an old fireplace and matched the look of the house. His team was conscientious and professional during all stages of work and cleaned up well behind themselves. I called yesterday to ask about getting a new chase cover. VERY sketchy. Disclaimer up front: I did NOT contract these guys to do any work. And here's why: overall, call with Joe (who answered the phone) was filled with tension and almost unpleasant. Ron didn't call me the next morning to follow-up/impart his knowledge so I called back. To his credit, Joe had at least talked with Ron and confirmed that: 1) They had no idea what gauge steel they use. 2) They had no, and refused to take, any photos of recent or past chase covers to show what they look like, claiming "they're all the same anyway." 3) They want to charge $150 to come out and measure the chimney. I believe this would be credited toward the $700+, but not if I don't go through with the purchase with them. That in and itself is not an issue, but why would I *ever* go with someone who refuses to show me what their product looks like up front? For $700+? Tongue-tied in astonishment. Plus, they're booked up through end of July (it is now May 9). Pretty underwhelming all around. Buyer beware! read more

I was quoted a price of $150 to clean my fireplace and upon arriving to my home I was told the price would be $300! When I told him I was quoted a price of $150 over the phone, he told me it was $150 just to DRIVE to my house!! How arrogant. I guess since they are the only ones who do this job, they can screw their customers. read more
