Wife insisted on taking car on her own to Romano Subaru, we are/were planning on using her car for upcoming trip. She had rattle in rear and did request an oil change and tire rotation, forgot to mention engine always 'racing' at idle but reduced in 'drive.' Dealer fixed rattle with one bolt and possible to high charge, but we understand 'that goes with the territory,' so to speak. Service rep called to report needed rear pads AND rotors tho we never sensed any breaking issues. She agreed to new parts, car reportedly test driven. First thing in the morning tire pressure light on, so I look at the wheels/tires, I can tell that all four wheels were likely rotated because of the greasy finger prints all over, one lug nut from earlier was replaced with general regular sort of nut, and was as such replaced, that's ok and a minor gripe that they just didn't replace with real lug nut, She calls to report the lit tire pressure light and sees no little sticker re: oil change 'due date.' Minor little oversight: did they really change the oil? Probably but even less confidence. They promise to mail it but not a confidence restorer. They were pretty involved with the $652 dollar rear brake job (citing a request to look at the brakes, which she denies) but somehow missed the racing idle they should have seen when moving the car, at least three times. Other than the worry about the tire pressure sensor on this trip, and the now necessary trip way across town to revist this dealer, all these little issues are indeed minor, and separately mean very little, but where is the confidence? Now we question most everything, why even go there if it takes two trips to get some confidence that really a competent dealer should offer outright. They're sloppy and irresponsible. read more

Well it is officially, Romano Dealership suck. I will never purchase a car from them ever again. Romano Subaru has blatantly overlooked issues I am having with my car so my warranty can expire and they can make more money from me. I had to take my car to another Subaru dealership and I have been instructed not to drive my car due to the issues that are covered under warranty and Romano Subaru is questioning what the other dealer has found. I have tried to reach out to the owner with an issue I had back in May and have tried again for him to completely ignore me. They also put faulty tires on my car and they are dry rotting after two years and they won't do anything. Never again read more

My Subaru outback was only 26 months old. Kinda sucks I had to pay for a battery replacement when they say the new one will be warranted for 30 months. So much for their bumper to bumper warranty that I added and paid for when I purchased the vehicle read more

Anyone who knows me, knows that I love Yelp! because it allows me to give positive "shout outs" to businesses and institutions. As a former school principal/administrator and a former restaurant employee, I feel many people and places providing great service and work go unsung. I do this for 99% of the time because we have enough negatives in today's world. In this case, as the 1 star exemplifies, Romano Subaru not only dropped the ball but an incredible amount of balls in working with my wife and I in purchasing a vehicle. What started as a 2 month wait for a new car which we were paying full price for turned into 6 months with still no car. If they ask you if you want to "build" a car to order, don't even consider it unless you are going to physically build it on the assembly line yourself. In the end, terrible communication, customer service and excuses made this a dealership that we will not return to or refer anyone to ever. The manager returned our down payment and acknowledged that we had met very poor customer service. With another dealer in Syracuse, we were able to test drive, buy and pick up our Onyx Subaru Outback on this coming Tuesday. 4 days vs. 6 months. Supply chain time lags and post COVID problems do not excuse our many calls made, concerns disregarded and basically poor attention to us as customers. We love good service, applaud it when delivered by other dealers in Syracuse but when it is this bad, I don't want anyone else to have to go through this. When my current car started needing repairs that cost more than it was worth I knew it was time to look for a new car . After a lot of research I decided to go to Romeo Subaru . That was yesterday and I drove home with a beautiful 2025 Crosstrek. I absolutely love this car . Everybody was so amazing to deal with. They are extremely rude i came in to get my brakes fixed and i had a tpms alert. I let them know and when i picked up my car they told me it was all set and fixed. As i came out of the parking lot the alert went on, i just dropped my car off today and i got an estimate of 600 dollar charge for the alert that wasn't my problem. Do not come here. read more

Based on this visit, I am very pleased and satisfied with Romano Subaru. I had a problem with a repair and I was not satisfied with it. I wrote a letter (yes, old school) to the General Manager of Romano Subaru and about a week later, he called me. He said he would make it right. Totally disrespected. My husband and I made an appointment for 10:30 today thru Sarah, to purchase a 2016 Outback for my 93 yr old MIL. Arrived on time to watch a salesman put a plate on the Outback and take another couple out to test drive. Then told it was no longer available. We had driven an hour and a half to keep this appt. Then, a salesman tried to sell us another 2016 Outback, we'll call the dog car. It had a lot of dog stickers all over it, dog hair inside and it smelled like dog. Had 10k more miles on it and we were told maybe we could get it for the same price. We declined, then were shown a new car for $20k, even after telling both Sarah and the salesman the top amount we could spend. So to summarize, scheduled car not available, but an inferior one and a more expensive one was. I'm glad we found out what kind of dealership this was before purchasing a vehicle. Go somewhere else, there are a lot of reputable dealerships that treat customers with respect. This is not one of them. read more

I never thought I'd say this about a car dealership, but my wife and I absolutely LOVED our entire experience here! We went to 6 different dealerships before this to test out which SUV we liked best, and we had so many terrible experiences. The other dealerships were either rude, pushy, didn't know anything about the cars they were trying sell, wouldn't answer our texts, or would straight up try to scam us. We had so much dealership anxiety leading up to our visit to Romano Subaru, but within 5 minutes of walking in, we were floored at how much better we felt from just being there. Right off the bat, the dealership was super clean, cozy, and felt like somewhere we could relax in (so many other places feel like museums or fancy libraries and are just so uncomfortable to wait in). Everyone we spoke to was SO nice, helpful, and genuine! We primarily worked with our sales guy, Joe Barry, who was honestly one of the kindest people we have ever met. He was super knowledgeable about the car we were looking at, didn't act pushy or try to upsell us on unnecessary features we weren't interested in, did great getting together all the paperwork, but most importantly, he made us feel comfortable and cared for. He is so kind, honest, and personable, and felt like someone we've known for years. Subaru Joe has become a household name for us now. He deserves a raise, a hug, and a sale every day for the rest of his career. We also worked with Nael, who handled our financial stuff, and was also extremely friendly and fun to talk to! He was so honest and supportive of us deciding to finance with our military bank when we found out they could give us a special, super low APR. It was such a breath of fresh air to not feel like we had to walk on pins and needles to avoid being shamed into scammy deals. That being said though, Subaru still offers amazing rates and if I hadn't been offered the special military rate from our bank, I would have happily gone with Subaru's financing program. Subaru also offers some amazing military discounts on other fronts though, so don't be afraid to ask if that applies to you! I have really mixed feelings about this place. My sales experience was generally good. I felt like the rep I bought the car from was kind and didn't try to sell me anything I didn't want. Not so much can be said for the sales rep that outright ignored my presence at another Subaru dealership I went to first. I custom ordered a Forester because there was no stock to be had and it arrived about a month earlier than promised, so no complaints there. Finance department...typical finance bros. Service department...friendly enough but they damaged my 6 month old car that didn't have a scratch on it when I dropped it off. Picked it up and whoever parked it had bumped the concrete base of a sign in the parking lot and scuffed my bumper. It's on the plastic part so it can't even be buffed out. The scuff matched up perfectly with the location on the concrete, it was 100% something they did and I noticed it immediately because the car was suspiciously close to the sign, but they denied it when I said something. Yeah it's small, but this is the first brand new car I have ever owned, I paid a lot for it, and I was hoping to keep it scratch free for at least a little longer. All I needed was a sincere apology and better communication from Romano Subaru. Instead I was met with confrontation. We know there are aspects of any business that are out of their control, but you should treat your customers with respect and decency, not blame and vague delayed answers. Telling the truth is not a threat Borzou Razmjou, it's the right thing to do. You could have fixed this deal but you chose this path instead. I hope it was worth it. Well, now that I have my car back, I have to say I will NEVER deal with Romano Subaru again. It really bums me out because I had 2 positive experiences in leasing new vehicles, but how their service team managed everything with my accident totally ruined my entire perception of them. 1. The communication from the service rep the entire time was AWFUL. It would take me calling sometimes FOUR times to get him to call me back. And of course no one else there could help me because he was the only one that knew specifically what was going on with the insurance company and my car. 2. This leads me in to the fact that it took so long because they were waiting on parts. Ok, I get it. I work in supply chain and I know what's going on. JUST CALL ME BACK and tell me you're still waiting! BUT then, because they couldn't get the refurbished wheel the insurance company paid for, they put a new one on, never told me, never submitted anything additional to the insurance company, and then I ended up paying for it out of pocket, not knowing untill I was reviewing everything when I got home. Now they expect ME to deal with it with the insurance company and try to get my money back. 3. I was getting nowhere with the service reps, so I called and left a message for the service manager. Do you think he called me back? NOPE! He passed me off to yet ANOTHER service rep. 4. When I picked up my car, everything from my middle console and glove box was ripped out. I didn't really think anything of it until today when I was looking for my instant camera. I had left it in the middle console. It's gone, along with the special tool attachment for my wheels. I figured when I got in my car that the attachment was what they were looking for, but I was a little perplexed that they didn't put my stuff back. But nonetheless, I was just trying to pick up my car and go. Not until today I realized my camera is also gone. This means either their tech stole it or they left my car unlocked and someone outside broke in to it. The lack of professionalism within that service department has absolutely blown my mind. I'm walking to a coffee shop as a write this review for Romano. Can't say anything negative about the service team - nothing out of the ordinary. They are competent and get the work done. They are pretty thorough and not too hard on the upsell for optional maintenance. One thing that is absolutely ridiculous though is that they do not offer a shuttle service. Seriously, in this age of customer service? No rides to downtown or at least a local coffee shop down the road. Losing two stars for that along with no adequate reason given. Update - there really is no reason not have a shuttle service. Makes no sense whatsoever and the canned response by Romano is very disappointing. Purchased a 2023 Subaru Legacy a year ago. Called in for a price to have a remote starter installed. Tech indicated for a small fee I could "upgrade" my Starlink membership and this feature would be available through the app. I did this and found, after calling Subaru, that, based on my VIN, this isn't available. If the tech had asked for my VIN my time and wait for a refund could have been avoided. No longer believe the dealer knows my Subaru better then the competition. Probably won't have my vehicle serviced at Romano as I'm not sure I trust them. Emailed both service manager, Alex(?) and general manager, Borzou and never received a reply. How's that for great customer service? Maybe a complaint with the BBB is the way to proceed. Highly doubtful I will service my car or purchase from Romano Subaru in the future. I had been shopping around for a Subaru at a few different dealerships, and Romano happened to have a vehicle in inventory that was close to what I was looking for. Admittedly this has been my first time buying a car, but I had met with salesmen from four different dealerships prior to coming to Romano, had test driven 7 different vehicles, and had been elbows deep in the research process for a few weeks, so this wasn't my first rodeo. I put in an online inquiry and traded emails and a few phone calls with an online sales rep who was very nice and helpful. The vehicle in question had a few features I didn't want (namely a remote starter), but the online sales rep offered to discount the price of the vehicle to compensate for the remote starter by $250 (a bit more than half the price of the starter). I set up a time to come by and see the vehicle and have Romano appraise the vehicle that I was planning on trading in. Unfortunately, when I arrived, the online sales rep traded me off to a sales rep named Jeff. And thus the headache began. My experience with every other salesman prior to Jeff had been nothing but pleasant. No one came across as pushy or slimey, and I began to question why the stereotype about car salesman existed. After visiting Romano, I understand now. Not long after sitting down, Jeff started saying things like "hopefully we can get you to walk out of here today with a new car!" to which I repeatedly mentioned that I was planning on sleeping on it, and wasn't interested in signing paperwork that day. He insisted that in order to move forward we would have to be willing to sign paperwork that day and close the deal. He resisted negotiating without an assurance that I was willing to buy that day, and wanted to know how much the dealership would have to offer me on my trade in to get me to sign. I repeated that I was going to sleep on the purchase regardless of the number. Negotiations shut down not long after that. Jeff was incredibly patronizing throughout the experience. I had indicated from the start that the car in question had more features than I wanted, and that I'd like to remove the extras if possible to reduce the price. Jeff initially tried to argue that I should want to keep the mats because of the salt on the roads during the winter, as if anyone looking at a Subaru in Syracuse wasn't aware of salt on the roads. I told him I was well aware of the issue, but that I was planning on buying floor mats third party and saving money. After supposedly speaking to his manager, the dealership refused to remove the floor mats and seat protectors that added to the price, which was also a red flag. read more

This car market is difficult and to make it worse we sold our used car and are down to only one until our new one arrives. I'm glad it's a Subaru and that Romano is our dealership of choice. I have close to 180,000 miles on our current Outback. Admittedly, in Syracuse, we do not take it easy on our cars. I was getting some vibration in the driveshaft. With the current market, I was concerned to even be able to get replacement parts. My customer service person was Alec and I couldn't have been more lucky. My situation put me in a spot where my car needed work the day after the arrival of my newborn son. Alec and his team took care of me like I was one of their own. I got the driveshaft replaced on the spot and Alec got me back in the hospital to see my wife and newborn son that same morning. My experience was nothing short of remarkable. Had several poor services experiences here. Long waits. Car only "diagnosed" after leaving it for a full day. (Charged over $100 diagnostic fee to be told it was EXACTLY the problem I wrote on the service request) Other rear bearings fails soon after, but now the car is 3,000 out of power train warranty. First they claim they can't find my extended warranty. So I have to dig up the paperwork. Then it is only partially covered. Another $100+ diagnostic fee, even though we knew what the problem was. We were told EVERY car is charged this diagnostic fee. So beware. On the plus side- the person at the desk was somewhat patient and helpful snd the loaner car was nice. read more

Beware** Romano Subaru - As a customer, I was told to "Leave!", when I asked why they were over charging an 83 yr old woman $3,269.00 for a new car! On 9/14/21 My For the second time that week, my 83 yr old mother asked me to drive from Rochester to Syracuse to help her purchase a new 2021 Subaru Crosstrak from Romano Subaru. My Dad passed away not long ago and she always depending on him for support with these kind of purchases. So I spent many hours calling around looking for her possibly "last car" and when asked to help of course I said "yes"... She had many, many questions about the cost of the car, the trade in value and so on, all of which I couldn't answer right away. In general, there were two visits to RS (Romano Subaru) over the course of two days, one to see the car and the other to finish the "paper work"... on the 2nd day I asked the sales rep, for clarification on deal #83692, I was told the Dealership doesn't have any obligation to disclose, in anyway, how they came up with the deal, (i.e. how much they would give her for the trade in and how much they would take off the new car and so on). So feeling a bit confused by the comment, not feeling good about the details as they were presented to us, no way I could comfort my mom's inquiries and putting me in a position so I just couldn't clearly recommend she should proceed with the purchase. So while the Sales rep and my mom were talking about the New Car details and how excited she was to get it, the color and so on...  I excused myself waked across the show room floor, over to see the "Sales Manager". He was in an office area (a glass booth in front of the show room floor), I knocked on the steel frame door and asked "could ask you a question about these numbers for my mom's car?", he slowly looked up from his desk and pensively said "yes..." next I pointed to to a few figures I had jotted down on the back of a folder, i.e information I found in the internet and wanted to see if I he could help me understand them better as it pertained to the deal. Note, before I could get my full question out of my mouth, the guy next to the Sale manager, in that same glassed in office area, starting interrupting me with comments about how "Kelly blue book wasn't a correct source for information and couldn't be used". I then tried to respectfully restate my observations... (below). KBB - Kelly Blue Book KBB $27,996 New 2021 Subaru Crosstrek Premium package at fair market value. KBB $6,892 Used 2011 Subaru Foster, lowest package group and in fair condition from KBB.. Note - The car was in Much better shape, but for the purpose of this posting I grossly undervalued the trade in condition to just "fair" and fair market value. RS - Romano Subaru Note - I have the paperwork if anyone would like to see it. RS $29,944 New MSRP RS $5,544 Trade in offer. Math summary: The deal was over by more than $3,296.00 and I was very concerned they were taking advantage of my mom who didn't completely understand what she was signing up for! Still at the SM's desk, I was very surprised when the SM asked me if MY name was on the "deal"or not?,  I said "no", it's my mom's name and she's in the other room across the show room floor", he then in a RAISED voice said "then, I'm done talking with you!", "get out, get out of my office!" "In fact get out of the building...leave"! Frustrated by that response, confused why the assistance manager was now telling me to "get out" and shouting me down.. in a defensive reaction "i asked the SM why you are being such a "prick to me?!!" (Obviously I could have handled differently) So at this point I feel like he could have said something like... I'm sorry but I'm not the guy to need to talk to or let me help you get to someone who can... (obviously this could've handled another way) but no one likes to be treated rudely, by anyone at anytime and I felt like this guy was way out of line. I was escorted outside and told don't come back in! While I was outside, the store owner stopped in the showroom and apparently talked directly to my mom, who was still in the sale's rep's cube and he said I was "outside" and everything was okay. (not sure what else was said I wasn't there.) later on I asked the sales rep if the SM would come out of his office and apologize in front of my mom and I for his rude behavior (to make my mom feel better), but he said he wouldn't because I called him a "prick". After the rest of the transaction was completed, mom got her new car and Romano never explained why they potentially over charged an 83yr old woman $3,292.00 and why they did what they did to me. I have managed customer facing call centers, married for 30yrs, a father of two boys both Eagle Scouts, have been a little league manager for 8yrs and a Boy Scout Scout master for 40 boys in Fairport NY and have NEVER been treated that poorly. I had to bring in my Forester for its regular servicing and also for recall notices I had received on my year's model. I did have to make an appointment thru Kayla, who because of the servicing to be done, arranged for me to have a free loaner car for the day. The Service Department staffer who worked with me, Alec, had my car brought into the garage almost right after I arrived. Once he confirmed the work which had to be done, he quickly set me up with my loaner Subaru vehicle for the day, and I was right out the door again. The Service Department staff called me mid-day, to say my car was ready for pickup. Once I arrived there I went directly to the Service Counter, which was ready for me with the paperwork for the servicing. As soon as that was done, I was right back in my car, going home. This is my 2nd time at this dealership, since moving here from out of state. I find their staff to be very good at their jobs, getting the customers in and out of the Service Department as soon as possible, which is not always what you find at a car dealership. Based on my experience, I feel very comfortable recommending Romano Subaru, to anyone who has to have their Subaru serviced. SD read more

I had been coming to Romano Subaru for every oil change and service maintenance for my 2017 Subaru Outback during my stay in upstate New York for the past 2 years. I always set up an appointment before I go there (which is preferred) and they always finish the job (oil change, tire rotations, and topping off all liquids) within an hour and a half at the very most. The employees are very quick and professional, who seem to be passionate about their job. My niece felt she had an issue with her car in that it wasn't driving the same and she needed to go back to Rochester and was afraid to drive that far without getting it checked I stopped in and met Borzou the G.M and he had me drive it right in to the service garage and introduced me to Ryan the service manager and even though it was a Saturday and they where busy he immediately had a tec check the car over and determined that the vehicle was safe to drive and at worst it might be slightly out of alignment which my niece said she would get Monday. Why would you go back for further service after receiving terrible and expensive treatment last time. Actually the oil change was $109 as the "Technician took a lot of time to evaluate the problems with the car". So they charged me anyway to falsely diagnose the car issues. Worst Service Ever! My boyfriend brought his 2006 Subaru Legacy GT to Romano in June 2014. We were on a road trip and broke down in Syracuse, NY so he didn't have much of an option as it was closest Subaru dealer to the break down. He was pretty sure the turbo had blown, but was waiting for Service Advisor to confirm. They confirmed it was in fact a blown turbo. Advised repair was $2500 and gave the "option" to drop the oil pan for an extra $300. They did not say why you would want to drop the oil pan, so he opted not to but went ahead with the new turbo. So fast forward to August 2014 and now he has a blown engine. He towed it to a local dealer, Northtown Subaru, and their service tech said that the FIRST thing they do is drop the oil pan when a blown turbo comes in to see if there are any metal fragments. Was not an "option", was mandatory for them. So now he is faced with a $8500 repair ($6K for engine and $2,500 for labor) because Romano Subaru's Service Advisor did not properly advise on dropping the oil pan and why you would want to do that. I spoke with two other local Subaru dealerships in the area and they both said the same thing as Northtown Subaru, that they would automatically drop the oil pan if a blown turbo comes in. Side Note: This is the 2nd blown turbo and 2nd blown engine on this vehicle with only 76,000 miles! Subaru of America had no sympathy and will not reimburse anything. NEVER TAKE YOUR CAR TO ROMANO SUBARU. Take to the other Syracuse Subaru dealership or drive to Rochester or Buffalo and get service. WORST SERVICE EVER!!!! Very disappointed in my recent visit to Romano Subaru after years of pleasant experiences. I brought my car in to repair the wheel bearings, which were covered under warranty. When I went to pick up my car, they stated that my brakes were put on upside down (they were just installed the day before). I was confused because my family mechanic has been reliable. My car was making terrible screeching noises. When I brought my car back to my mechanic to see what was wrong, he said that one of the caliper pad brackets into rotor in the front was tightened to the point where he was surprised my car even moved. My rear break shoes were also tightened WAY too much. I am very upset with Romano Subaru and their lack of professionalism to blame an error that THEY CAUSED on someone else. My wife brought our 2015 Forester in for an inspection at this location. After sitting there for 3 hours, she was told it would be over a $1000.00 dollars to pass inspection. She needed 4 new tires and the front brakes were on an "angle" causing uneven wear. Here 's the thing, they did the brakes on our vehicle the month before to the tune of $500.00 and I had the tires checked the month before to prepare for inspection so I know they should not fail. So I tell the rude, cocky service rep, Chris, all this and ask him to put the car together and let me wife drive out of there. I told him we are going to take the car to NYS certified place that I know and trust. Five minutes later my wife calls me back and says Chris wants to talk to me. They mistakenly misread the tire meter and the tires are actually good. The brakes, well those just needed to be blown out and they would probably pass. Just need do this work and change license plate bulb (which was just lose, probably done purposely) to the tune of couple hundred bucks. Was this satisfactory to me? NO, it's not. Nothing about your shop is satisfactory. Bottom line I got the car inspected and two filters replaced (Cabin and engine) for $80.00. In the next couple months when it snows and I want to replace the tires they can be replaced with the same exact tire for $200,00 less then these guys are charging. OH and I just found that last spring my wife was told (during an oil change) she needed to replace the cabin filter for $100.00 and she did. I am seeing red. They got me on that one. Screw me once shame on you, screw me twice shame on me. You won't have another shot to screw me and if I have my way you won't have the opportunity to do this to anyone else either. Would give 0 stars if possible , went in to see selection . Filled out credit app and was told they would give me a call . Waited about 3 weeks and called to see what was up and they said they would call me back the same day or next . I had a little debt they brought up which is situated now but even if they couldn't sell me anything at the time , I figured it would be professional to just say try and take care of the debt and we will work with you . Instead I never got called back and from reading previous reviews I'm pretty glad I didn't do business with them . It's unfortunate that this happened this way but hey I guess I dodged a bullet . Hopefully the service will get better eventually but the way I see it I will never do business with any Romano dealership because of this . read more

I drove 2 hours in a rainstorm to look at an Outback I had asked to be held for me, as I was pretty sure I would purchase it. I arrived at my APPOINTED time and was told the vehicle had been sold. I have an 05 Forrester , so I thought it would be a good move to take it to the dealership to get it fixed. I was quoted $3,600 to get the entire exhaust system done. They said it was " completely rusted out". I took the car back after paying them over a hundred dollars just to look at it, and took it somewhere else. They said it was just 1 part of the exhaust system and that the rest should be good for a few more years. $800. Big difference. I got a response for the review I did on their website. The pat cut and paste response about "Syracuse winters " and such. The car has only been thru 1 winter and looks practically new. Go somewhere else to get a second opinion and save your money. read more
