Some leather stores, from the way they look, you can tell if they're high-end or cheaper. This…read moreplace is a bit confusing in the message it's sending out. From the outside it looks like a leather warehouse. It's plain and packed with racks of jackets and walls of purses and other leather accessories. But the prices are both high and low, the quality ranging from luxury to more run-of-the-mill leather goods. There's almost too much to wade through. There are no little vignettes, like you might see in a store like Danier. This is the kind of place they're just interested in moving stock, not enticing you with an aesthetic experience. I don't like the way this place smells. Some such stores smell like leather and tannin. This place smells a bit musty and chemically. It made me want to wade outta there as fast as possible. They have lots of Baby Phat jackets at the front, which don't really fit with the whole image of the store, and at the back they sell leather biker gear. This is not the place I'd choose to buy a leather jacket. The place just doesn't feel premium enough to warrant making a bigger purchase like a leather coat.

Leather Plus is one of the many leather goods stores around Edmonton. It has a lot of leather…read morebrands that I honestly haven't heard of before, which is common for many budget leather stores around town. I was here looking for a belt but I decided to get one elsewhere. I wasn't a fan of the style of belts they had, all of them seemed to look to same to me. The store is quite difficult to navigate through as well; it feels a bit crowded.

Oh Canada! Seriously, for a large National chain, there really isn't anything (besides Hudson's Bay…read morequintessential strips) that is more of a slice of Canadiana then Roots and that beautiful beaver! Do I buy a lot from Roots? Not really - the clothes are not really my style, but I still appreciate that they are quite nice. That said, I do suggest it to, especially for travel, a gift for someone visiting, or is you are visiting the True North, stop in and pick something up for yourself as a souvenir. This location on Whyte Ave is much nicer than the big mall locations - and especially nicer then the locations you find at Mayfield Common, & South Common etc. This is more of a boutique Roots with specialized leather bags, accessories and even home decor. And the staff at this location are always really friendly. My absolutely favourite item from Roots is the Maple Syrup Can candle! Ooooo, it is too good for words (and oh-so Canadian!). It literally is the same maple syrup cans (the ones you had to punch a hole into with a bottle opener to get the syrup out of) that Canadians have grown up with for decades, but with a thick, wooden wick, and a delicious maple smell. They also make mini ones!!

I have been loving Roots lately! It is right on the ave, which makes it easy to pop in for a look…read more This is a smaller store, that definitely has the attention to detail to fold all the clothes properly. I sometimes feel like I make a mess in there when I visit. They have a sale section in the back, as well as sale items scattered throughout the store. But, what I have been doing lately is buying items online. Once you know your size, I would recommend ordering online and shipping for free (over $50). It makes it easier to get the right size and the best price. Then, returns in store are quite easy. New customers also get $10 off their first purchase. Check their website for more details. This does not work on sale items though.
