From the outside it looks like a leather warehouse. It's plain and packed with racks of jackets and walls of purses and other leather accessories. But the prices are both high and low, the quality ranging from luxury to more run-of-the-mill leather goods. There's almost too much to wade through. There are no little vignettes, like you might see in a store like Danier. This is the kind of place they're just interested in moving stock, not enticing you with an aesthetic experience. I don't like the way this place smells. Some such stores smell like leather and tannin. This place smells a bit musty and chemically. It made me want to wade outta there as fast as possible. They have lots of Baby Phat jackets at the front, which don't really fit with the whole image of the store, and at the back they sell leather biker gear. This is not the place I'd choose to buy a leather jacket. The place just doesn't feel premium enough to warrant making a bigger purchase like a leather coat.

He then encouraged me to take a look around the store at the wonderful products he has, especially the jackets. I hadn't owned a leather jacket in probably 40 years. There were so many good things in this store that by the time I left I had two belts, a gorgeous leather jacket, and a new leather wallet. I knew that they had leather & all sorts of tools to go with, I just didn't know they'd have some other specialties - like grommets! The store has a lot of stuff, and the items seem to be clearly marked. The staff were super helpful in assisting me to find what I needed. There were quite a few things I've added to my wishlist now that I've been in (rivets with coloured gems - watch out!) The only thing I don't love about this place is their 'tiered' pricing. If you purchase a membership (one for $35 and one for $150) you can get a substantial discount on your purchase. I don't know how many times I'll be there this year (they expire every year) so I didn't get one. I guess if you're going to have a business using these supplies often, it would be worth it. Although, as an ocassional shopper, it messes with my brain to see what I could save if I bought a membership.

I was looking for a bright floral wallet to match my summer purse and I was in luck as they happened to have a table full of them at 50% off. One of the nice things about this location is with less of a customer base their sale stock doesn't get picked over as fast as it does in Edmonton. In terms of overall stock I would say they carry about the same level as City Centre but with more of a focus on luggage here versus purses and accessories. The young lady helping me out at the cash today was nice enough but extremely difficult to understand. I think it could have been either her first job or a new job as she seemed very soft spoken and nervous. I got what I was looking for today for a great deal so overall I was happy with the experience. My one disappointment came from the fact they are currently raising funds for a children's mental health charity but I saw no posters or signage for it anywhere in the store. It's obviously a worthwhile cause that alot of people will miss out on helping unless you get a staff member at the till who remembers to mention it towards the end of the transaction. Four stars overall and I will definitely come back when the time comes to replace my travel luggage.

I took pictures and measurements and sent her and she arranged to have everything there for my booked appointment. Unique Upholstery & Design asked me to bring it in early in the morning and said they would work on it as soon as I got there. They were true to their word. I dropped it off at 9;30 AM and I picked it up at 4:00 PM on the same day with all the work done. Because I was from out of town, they worked with me so that I wouldn't have to wait for several days. I still had to make sure to work with the company to book the appointment and for them to get the materials needed but they went over and above what I had expected. As for the work, it was top notch. I would definitely recommend this company for any upholstery needs you may have. I was NOT disappointed!!!!! :)

I was so happy leaving this store, the smile on my face is coming back just writing about it! They have some other nice things here too. They have lots of belts, purses and luggage. Some of the purses were really cute. They purses were decently priced and the belts, well, they were freaking awesomely priced! Everything seemed to be priced well. The lady at the counter wasn't overly friendly. She did her job though and she smiled when I told her how excited I was to have found a belt for so cheap. Overall, a good experience!

Oh Canada! Do I buy a lot from Roots? Not really - the clothes are not really my style, but I still appreciate that they are quite nice. That said, I do suggest it to, especially for travel, a gift for someone visiting, or is you are visiting the True North, stop in and pick something up for yourself as a souvenir. This location on Whyte Ave is much nicer than the big mall locations - and especially nicer then the locations you find at Mayfield Common, & South Common etc. This is more of a boutique Roots with specialized leather bags, accessories and even home decor. And the staff at this location are always really friendly. My absolutely favourite item from Roots is the Maple Syrup Can candle! Ooooo, it is too good for words (and oh-so Canadian!). It literally is the same maple syrup cans (the ones you had to punch a hole into with a bottle opener to get the syrup out of) that Canadians have grown up with for decades, but with a thick, wooden wick, and a delicious maple smell. They also make mini ones!!

I sometimes feel like I make a mess in there when I visit. They have a sale section in the back, as well as sale items scattered throughout the store. But, what I have been doing lately is buying items online. Once you know your size, I would recommend ordering online and shipping for free (over $50). It makes it easier to get the right size and the best price. Then, returns in store are quite easy. New customers also get $10 off their first purchase. Check their website for more details. This does not work on sale items though.
