I am following Jee Blackwell here from her previous employment and wanted to post the AMAZING cuts she has given me over the past 9 years. I have extremely curly thick hair.... Think Halle Berry's hair in The Call but past my shoulders.... One sunny day I met Jee....and from that day forth I solemnly swore to hop on a plane and fly to wherever Jee moves! This woman cuts curls like NO ONE ELSE. She told me she always wanted curly hair and I believe that is the reason why she can do it so well! ONE THING you have to make sure however is to ARTICULATE what you want out of your curls to her. Tell her how much your hair will "curl up" from being pressed flat **if you do not know that answer pull your hair straight and measure that and then let it go back up and measure that***...OR simply tell her you want to cut it curly and she can do that as well. The key with curls is communication and not lying to yourself about what you have on your head and what you want it to look like. If i want a precision bob, Jee will give that too me but i also have to understand that that bob will curl up into a precisely perfectly round mess of curls next week. I am pleased with both. PS she took me Halle Short too and we chopped off over 12 inches it was fantastic. I am 2.5 years into my grow-out...and let me tell you...the Halle Cut she gave me grew out and it kept looking better and better! She always does a great job and has seen my hair through some crazy times! I get a regular bleach and tone but she has also done some miracle work on color correction. WARNING THE WORST EXTENSIONS EVER!!!! I went to Brenda Kovar at Roman Salon for extensions after moving to LA and am SO sorry I ever did- I have had extensions for 10 years so I am VERY experienced with them. I spent over $2000.00 for Brenda to install extensions to NOT even last ONE MONTH. Two weeks after installation I had to go back to Brenda to have her chop off at least four inches of my freshly installed hair and charged me $80.00 to cut off hair that she JUST put in- I told her I was unhappy her only response " maybe it's a bad head of hair." I have never had this happen in 10 years of having extensions on my head. Her installation was awful as well- the bonds were bending into my head and digging in causing headaches and dizziness. I couldn't pull my hair up or move it without the bonds showing- she put them all the way at the base of my hairline. She also put in a yellow blonde color not an ashy blonde that we had discussed multiple times. I have never felt so embarrassed or unattractive in my life. I asked Brenda to refund me the money for the hair as no client should suffer like this for bad color and wrong product. I had my extensions redone by another salon that spent 12 hours fixing my color and got it perfect the first try. They also custom dyed the hair extensions to make sure they matched my hair and look super natural. The new hair is amazing!! but cost me another $2800.00 to fix the mess that Brenda at Roman Salon created. THINK BEFORE YOU GO HERE - THERE ARE MUCH BETTER OPTIONS. read more

Nestled in an oasis right on La Cienega Boulevard, Román Salon is a nice respite from the LA hubbub. The front desk staff are friendly (Steven is adorable) and knowledgeable about the products, and the ambiance is really relaxed. The real gem of the place is Victor Camarillo, my stylist. I've been following Victor for since college and have never looked back. He is amazing at color and cuts. He's got quite a cult following. His clients just love him. He's also very helpful in addressing all your concerns for after care styling. As for price, I have to agree, you get what you pay for. OMG From my first consult visit until the end of my very long hair coloring appt Calvin was attentive, nice, and he did a phenomenal job! My consult went well and he asked questions and showed me his previous work. I felt like he really listened to how i wanted my hair. I followed my stylist Amy when she moved to Roman Salon. I would follow Amy anywhere because she is just AMAZING! She is super sweet, and does amazing things to my hair. The best part about her haircuts is that they grow out so well! Roman Salon is very beautiful and very calm. The space is gorgeous, and the atmosphere is very friendly. The entrance is a little but hidden behind the back. You have to go through a gate and around a corner to actually get into the salon, but once you find it you can see why it's so hidden. It just looks really pretty. Make sure you bring quarters for the meters!! There are streets behind La Cienega where you don't need quarters to park but it can be tricky sometimes. Been getting my hair done for years by Amy, starting back when she was still training at Vidal Sassoon! She'd cut my hair and then I'd get displayed to other students while she explained how she did the cut. Now I'm visiting her in her new space at Roman Salon. Amy's always been really great with hair. She has wonderful vision and creativity, but also is good about listening to what her clients want and need. Roman Salon is a nice place. Enter from the side away from the street, facing a relaxing open courtyard. If I worked at Roman, I'd be hanging out in this garden-like courtyard during my breaks! Where Trey Burnette goes, I follow. So when he relocated to Salon Roman, it wasn't too long until I scheduled my first visit at his new space. Five stars always for Trey. He is incredibly talented and remarkably keeps up with my hair phases; short, long, blonde, brunette, and everything in between! In my opinion, there's nothing he can't do. These days, I have super-long hair and when I managed to wreck it at a New Year's Eve party, Trey rescued me with a brilliant cut. Note to self: avoid candles when wearing your hair down...avoid open flames in general. As for Roman Salon, I was left was a great first impression. The salon is spotless. It's bright and spacious with a glamorous interior. It's very elegant. There is also a lovely courtyard area behind the salon. The staff seemed pleasant. Joan Ingram at Roman Salon is simply the best hair cutter I have ever known. She works magic with the scissors - using technical skill to fix problems (blend in shorter, broken pieces of hair). She is thoughtful, listens and works within your comfort level. I used to hate my hair and now I love it! I get compliments all the time! Danielle Kelly is the best colorist - she has taken my hair from an over-processed blond to a natural beach blond (like when I was a little girl!). My hair is healthy and I am happy. I started coming here a few months ago. I had the same hairstyle for a couple years and everyoneeee was telling me to change it up. I was also cutting my own hair at the time, saving money ya know. Came here and gave Christian a very vague idea on what I wanted since I didn't even really know. I had gotten haircuts before, but this is more like a therapeutic session. While I get my haircut I talk about current happenings in life and Christian is super friendly and funny. He even sent me cards when he learned my dog passed away. This salon is not only beautiful, but filled with the most beautifully talented people. Sherri Roman does my color and I will stay with her as long she'll allow me! I pray she never, ever stops working. That being said, I'd still trust anyone in that salon with my hair. Brenda is phenomenal as well! This place is pricy, but a lifesaver. Sherri's work gets me months worth of compliments on my color. She makes it so that it grows out VERY well. I only need it done every 5 months, if that! The treatment you get is also great. They always offer tea and water or coffee. While you get your hair washed, you can catch the latest runway show on the tv and it's angled perfectly so you can see while enjoying a scalp massage. I have curly long hair and they both understand how to work with that type of hair. Stylist Steven McNicholl is AMAZING. I have been to many of the best high end celebrity hairstylists and colorists over the years in NYC & LA....and yes most were very good....but Steven does the same quality color & cut. job as the best in the business...if not better for less $. I have been going to him for years and get complimented on my hair VERY often (sometimes from other hair stylists!!) He does the great highlights, color & cut. Several of my friends and family now go to him as well. My hair is longer layers with color and highlights and it has never looked better. Steven does a great job on my husband's hair, as well as my business partner who has a blond short stylish cut. She too used to go to a very high end salon....no more...she says Steven does the best cut and color she has ever had. Steven is a pleasant easy person and makes you feel very comfortable. Steven was featured in the July issue of Allure magazine as one of the top hair stylists in the country - he deserves it. The salon he works in is a clean, upscale spot with a nice vibe. I called this place at 4pm on a Saturday for an emergency blowout and they squeezed me in for 4:15pm. I was so thankful because everywhere else was fully booked. When I arrived, I had trouble finding the entrance to go in at first, but it had two signs out front directing where the actual entrance was...in the back. The decor outside and inside of the salon was very cute, clean and dainty. A little fancier than the salons I am used to going to. Customer service from the receptionist was fine, but not outstanding. I asked for a cup of water while waiting but never received one. No big deal, but it would've been nice. Five minutes later, I was in a chair. I wanted loose, pretty curls and the girl who did my hair gave me just that. Unfortunately, I can't remember her name but I remember that she was young, blonde and from Chicago. Thank you!!! I won't lie, the cost of the blowout was much pricier than I wanted it to be ($75!) but I was in dire need of a good blowout and I appreciated their flexibility with booking me for something so last-minute. read more

Let me tell you that I hate cheating especially on people that i have been going to for years. I don't like other people styling or doing anything to my hair. That being said, I just recently celebrated my 28th Bday and found out my friends were throwing me a Bday party (1920's theme). I love themed parties but not when I am told last minute and my hair stylist can't take me in to style my hair. I had no choice but to cheat!!! I met Sonia Resendes at Crossfit Brick (where we work out) and she heard me complaining that i needed to get my hair done. She said come into Roman Salon and i will glam you up! I figured why not i have no other choice. Well I am soooo happy i decided to cheat cause Sonia was amazing!! She showed me a whole new salon that is super cute and cozy! Not only did i fall in love with the whole vibe of the Salon but how Sonia took care of me and styled my hair. She really made me feel soo comfortable and really made me look like i was from the 1920s era! She really knows hair. I definitely recommend Sonia Resendes at the Roman Salon for color, cut, styling and Brazilian blowouts. I have found my new stylist and friend and will be coming back to her for sure! read more

There is no one - NO ONE - better than Amy Jacob. I've been going to her for at least 6 years. She's the most knowledgeable and gifted hair stylist I've ever met. I have A LOT of hair. I mean, a lot. Long, thick, curly locks that have relaxed a bit over the years, but are still a handful. This woman not only knows my hair, but understands it. She's the hair whisperer. Seriously. I shop up with a haystack on my head and pretend it's hair, but when I leave I have runway ready hair. Being that it's this massive mane of black hair, Nobody really realizes if my hair has grown out. EVERYONE realizes when Amy's done my hair, but as it grows out, it's still gorgeous. She does these incredible layers that just remain beautiful. As someone else mentioned, I followed Amy from another salon and I didn't really care where she cut my hair - I'd follow her if she said we were meeting at the local park, she's just THAT good - but Roman Salon is seriously gorgeous. I love the different areas from the upstairs and downstairs to the separate men's boutique and adorable courtyard where they trim hair. Everyone is very friendly, everyone loves what they do and it's just a relaxing and welcoming environment. I followed Victor Camarillo from Chop Chop. Roman is a sweet salon right off of La Cienega and Waring. I like the outdoor patio waiting area. But can I tell you about Victor???? OMG! He is a hair saver. I'm not the type of girl who commits. I find a good hairdresser but I get that itch to try something new and different (usu. some rave review about an up-and-coming superstar hairdresser to the celebs) and I tend to "see" other stylists. I will shell out ridiculous amounts of money to please my insatiable appetite for "different." Yet, I realized how fads fade fast. And you really can't compromise on talent and skill. The more you spend doesn't necessarily equate to better either. That's why Victor is great. He always knows how to make me look good. Everytime I come off the chair I'm surprised how good my hair looks. I shouldn't be after all these years. But he does make me appreciate him more and more. This is the second time I visited Paula at this location. I had originally met her when she was a student at Vidal Sassoon and I had gone in to have my hair done. At the time I knew that she was a gifted hair dresser. Then she became a teacher there and I no longer had access to her. I finally tracked her down, and her haircuts are everything I remembered: finely sculpted to fit my face and make me look 10 years younger. I wake up in the morning and shake my head and the style is back. This is the most I've ever paid for a haircut, and it is also worth it. I feel good about myself wherever I go. I love Paula. Hair colorist (and owner) Sheri Roman is THE BEST colorist in L.A.! i have been going to her for years and would never go to anyone else. i have complete strangers stop me and comment on my hair - "It's such a GORGEOUS color" - and at least half of them flip out when i recommend Sheri... because they thought it was NATURAL! now, if that isn't what we are all hoping for, i don't know what is! i've gotta say, Sheri is just as talented as a salon owner - the salon is beautiful, peaceful, fun and relaxing and the entire staff is wonderful. THIS IS NOT A SALON FOR EXTENSIONS!! MY BACKGROUND: I've been wearing extensions for 9 months, I've gotten them changed out twice after the first time. For my next change out, I wanted to try out a new salon to see if I was getting the best deal and quality from my current salon. So I googled. STORY: I found Roman Salon and the website was great, seemed reputable, so I called for a consultation with the hair extension specialist I thought seemed the best via the website. I was told that the website is "way old" and that that stylist no longer works there. The guy at the front desk recommended Traci Henningsen. I went in for a consultation with her, she was nice and polite, but didn't really seem to know what she was talking about concerning the extensions. The hair she uses is SOCAP, but she couldn't tell me where the hair was from, or anything about the bond size. But we hit it off and I wanted to give her a chance (also, the hair and service was going to be cheaper than where I was currently going). PROBLEM: I went in for my appointment, she took out my old extensions, and then the problems started. She didn't dye my hair to match the color of the extensions, and she didn't cut/trim my 3-month-grown-out hair; however, she did do a great wash and blow dry. Then she proceeded to attach the extensions. She used 10 bundles (each bundle came with 10 pieces). She placed them sparsely among my scalp (bc 100 bonds isn't very many), she didn't cut the bond in half, which means that most of the bonds were half of an inch long (outrageously long), and she put them right next to the scalp (so I couldn't sleep on them with them driving into the back of my head; they are supposed to be about a centimeter to half an inch away). Then she was going to leave the extensions as is until I asked her to trim them. She did an even worse cut. There was no layering or blending into my natural hair, she just cut straight across the bottom. CONCLUSION: I was extremely disappointed and displeased with her lack of knowledge and practice with extensions. Thank God it was around Halloween, so I wore my wig all week to work until I could get an appointment with my old salon. I guess it's true, you get what you pay for. BTW: SOCAP hair is indian hair. My favorite is HairDreams, which is mixed-European hair. read more

She has been my hairstylist for years and I would probably drive up to San Francisco for an appointment with her if I had to. Sherri is amazing at what she does. I'm sure you've watched those make over shows in awe as much as I have at how much of a difference an AMAZING HAIRSTYLE can make. You might have even thought.. wow, how much more fabulous could I be? Sherri is your answer, she'll take your hair to it's full potential. She's everything you could want in a stylist, she listens to what you want, she makes you feel extremely comfortable and you can completely trust her. When you are in her chair you are her first priority and you wont leave the salon without feeling like you just got the best haircut of your life. I'm serious, I feel that way every time. I can't wait for her to cut my boyfriends hair! She does such a fantastic job on men as well. I have really long thick brunette hair and she does an amazing job at bringing life and color to my hair.
