Ask a random stranger for a recommendation -- I have found this to be the best and most helpful shortcut to all things Polish. Candy, sausages/kielbasa, fresh/dried seafood, desserts -- patrons are generally more than happy to lend a suggestion! Staff can be hit or miss because as Jason M. puts it -- some of them definitely "no speak-a da English" Pricing ranges depending on the product, but overall most things aren't too bad. I do not recommend !! very bad service, the products are not fresh. today the donuts were horrible, my grandmother spat them out, you know what a horror, the bakery and the product is not high quality like last time I was there. My wife who is Polish and myself frequent Little Poland for shopping. We have shopped at all the major supermarkets there and this year we decided to do our Easter shopping at Roly Poly. We got a bunch of different cold cuts, cheese, and salads which were all very good. However we bought these two traditional Easter Sand Babka cakes and they were both very dry and lemony. We don't have a problem with lemon flavor, however neither cake was advertised as being lemon flavored. I attached photo with label which shows the big one is labeled as a traditional sand babka. This is a big store for little Poland standards and always very busy. I'm sure they are raking in the money so I would expect them to have better standards than this. For the money they are charging they should label their products accordingly as well as have better quality control of their pastry/baked goods. We will be feeding the cakes to the birds and critters outside as they are much to dry for our likening. Not impressed. read more

A fellow student brought their cookie tray to an open house at our school. O. M. G. I have never, ever, EVER, had cookies like this! Beautifully executed little pieces of art to delight the eyes. Light, crispy, delicious little bites of heaven to delight your mouth! Better than Mazzicatos, better than any damn bakery I've been to in a long time, and considering I'm a bakery-avore, that's saying a lot. I will definitely make a point of going to this bakery this weekend or next. I cannot be held responsible for how much baked items I might ingest...but when it's this good, you don't care! This is a gold polish gold mine! As you may or may not know New Britain has a heavy population of polish food. Now that I am working in the area I ventured out into the New Britskies. My staff recommended this place based on price and great variety! so i made my way over.... I am not polish but this place looks legit. Everyone inside is polish and bilingual. (some only speak polish). What does that mean = good polish food. The place is market / deli with a seating area. The deli serves hot meals which are prepared in the mornings. A meal comes with mashed potatoes with mushroom gravy, breaded chicken and a side of coleslaw. There are many styles of coleslaw that a true polishman will need to educate me in. If you looking for something different and fun I would highly recommend this place. Its cool to just look around at the grocery items they offer. read more

I am delightfully stunned to find this place right in my back yard! Moved to New Britain 5 years ago and never visited Roly Poly thinking it's just a bakery! Was I wrong! I go for the noon time meal (10:00 a.m. till 6pm) and tomorrow I'm going for 6-10:00 breakfast. I can hardly believe I got two beautiful thick slices of fresh pork loin, potatoes and one more side ( I chose cooked beets) for $7.50!!! I also took home another meal of roast chicken for tomorrow. Very neat and clean, everything fresh and everything a Polish person would want. I'm not Polish so shopping for other items is tricky - but I'll be a regular for lunch! read more

Roly Poly is by far my favorite Polish store in CT, MA, and NY (and I've been to them all!). The inside is really cute and always nicely decorated. The food is so reasonably priced and you can even get fresh food (sandwiches or hot food), drinks, and ice cream to eat right there in their little seating area. They have a wide array of products, mostly imported from Poland, and you can find many of the beloved Polish staples that you might find in a store in Poland. There is a toiletries and cosmetics section, as well as gifts and cards. Their fresh food is delicious and all of the baked goods are amazing. Definitely try the loaves of rye bread! read more

As a chef of twenty odd years, I was amazed at the eclectic European selection and style of the Roly Poly Bakery in New Britain, CT. Their homemade Kapusta and Bigos were the best that I have had in over 35 years! I was also delighted with the large variety of Pierogis and Sausage that they had. Their Kabanosy (skinny slim jim type kielbasa) was delicious and bursting with that delightful flavor of Polish spices. This market was clean, fully stocked, and employs Polish speaking citizens as well as their English speaking descendents KUDOS! I will take the 2 hour ride anytime! read more

For real. Bang. Holy S&it. So, I'm exploring my "polish roots" now that I live in little Poland (I am a very embarrassed immigrant that can't even speak polish). This place ROCKS. Kielbasa is super cheap and about the best thing I put in my mouth. Came in here yesterday and got two pounds of traditional kielbasa and a two pound jar of sauerkraut for under $9. Went in today and got 2 paczki. loaf of bread, box of vodka cherry chocolates AND perogies for under $12. Cheap and totally worth it. There is absolutely a language barrier with some of the staff but have yet to have anyone be rude. read more

What an experience! I placed an order a week before Easter and picked it up on Good Friday. Thankfully I paid for it on the phone when I placed the order so I didn't have to wait in the line. Going there on good Friday is something out of the ordinary. Organized chaos. But I loved it. Food was piping hot and fantastic. Person who helped me was extremely nice. Place is pretty good. The selection here is excellent and you will pretty much be able to find anything you want. This is a regular go to store for me if I want an all in one trip with lots of varieties. There are 3 major issues here though that hold this short of a 5. 1) the prices generally are about 15% higher than you will find at other smaller stores, for example Baltic in Hartford is very competitive on pricing (cheaper), and many liquor stores are cheaper on the beers. 2) always check the expiration dates! Have been burned here where I bought things that were expired and did not realize until I got home. Always , always check the expiration baffle tossing in the cart, especially the refrigerated items but I have found this to be the case on non refrigerated items as well. 3) the size. For the amount of traffic they got they really need to expand the size of this place and also the size of the parking lot. On the weekends forget coming here without total chaos inside and in the parking lot. Either way , all things considered I would return and this is a go-to of mine and strongly recommend for polaks and non polaks. read more

A little gem of a deli/supermarket. The staff is really friendly, and really polish. As i stare at their offerings in confusion, they always offer up their insight on what to try. Unless you speak Polish, stay far away. I've been in there twice and they've been downright snobbish, borderline racist. Completely ignoring me because I don't speak their own language and not one of them even remotely speaking a lick of English or even understanding the language for simple nods to easy questions. I bought what I thought was chocolate cake but later found out was ginger thanks to the useless assistance I received, or lack thereof, when inquiring about the cake. All kinds of bread, donuts, pastries, cookies, and cakes! They have a Deli with Polish meats and Delicious Hot Home Made FOOD to eat there or to take out! This place is MORE than just another grocery store! It has something for everyone!!! The Roly Poly Bakery is my absolute favorite store. The atmosphere is amazing and the customer service is some of the best that I have ever encountered. The food is delicious and always fresh, and of course my personal favorite the bread. I only buy my bread from Roly Poly. And of course the pastries, which are unique and irresistible. Overall, I extremely recommend the Roly Roly Bakery to everyone because of its wide variety of shopping goods and excellent customer service. I came back to this place after about 5 years absence. I ordered Ambasador cake for my husband for Father's Day. What a disappointment. We had that cake years ago and it was delicious. Now the layers are very thick and the cake is dry. There are barely any pineapples inside. My husband just tried it and told me to return it. But i m not driving a hour to make the return. I generally stop in a couple of times a year when passing through the area to get my fix on some good polish food. This place is really nice but really lacks organization. It's a popular place in a really bad area so be prepared and be careful. We went on a Saturday which was a mistake but that's when we were passing through. The place was busy but it seemed as if it had more people working there than customers. I went to get some kielbasa and had to wait and wait and wait. No tickets giving people numbers like in supermarkets so you were on your own trying to push yourself in and get the attention of a clerk. Once you finally had someone to help you, you had to point out what you wanted from hundreds of meat choices, nothing properly marked or explained. I guess they expect their customers to know. I picked three different kinds of kielbasa, smoked and a skinny kabanos. They all tasted pretty good but I found bits of bone or something inedible in almost every piece. I didn't care for that and just thought the butchers were careless in their grinding. I know that when I buy krajana kielbasa in greenpoint Brooklyn I am never disappointed. We also bought poncki which we ate the next day and found them to be stale and not filled enough. We also purchased some jars of pickles and beet products. Too much confusion for us at this place we'll seek other butchers in the area next time. We don't like shopping in a store where it's so tight people are falling over each other or bumping each other in their tiny carts. Visited Roly Poly for the first time on 2/10/18. Very cute and ultra-clean supermarket. Pierogis and bread with melted cheese and mushrooms were very good. Other hot entrees looked equally mouth-watering. Kielbasa was excellent! I was disappointed in their paczskis - the doughnut was good, but less than a teaspoon of filling. read more

Wonderful Polish store. However, I did buy a 16 ounce Pepsi which when I got to my car and checked my packages, realized I didn't have it with me. When I went back to the cashier who had cashed me out, I asked her about it. She said she knew nothing about it and the other check out clerk kind of got involved. Totally uncalled for, as I was nice about it. I just bought another 16 oz Pepsi and saw that the first Pepsi I purchased wasn't put back. As I was coming back to the counter, I saw that she was drinking a 16 ounce Pepsi which she didn't have before when I checked through. I also noticed it as I came to the counter she put it underneath the counter very quickly. Since, I only had two packages, I was back in the store, at the checkout counter, which wasn't busy at the time within a few minutes.
