I was visiting Hartford, CT area for a wedding. Among the list of places, the bride and groom suggested visiting was Roly Poly (bakery). Now, I had wondered why the couple suggested that people visiting from out of state visit this bakery until I walked in. Let's just say this one was a hit. It's a polish grocery store with a bakery, hot bar and other polish items. But the staff are friendly, the food is all 'polish' and written in 'polish' so the gastronomic adventure is quite something for someone like me who enjoys foods from other parts of the world. I have polish restaurants in my area that I have been to, but I am yet to find a polish bakery. I live in a rather large cosmopolitan west coast city, and I was surprised to find things I never knew existed. Let's just say 150 dollars later, I was lugging 4+ lbs of European chocolates (in bulk), among other delicacies, back to my home in California. I will be back for those chocolates. I have yet to find bulk quantities of European alcohol-filled chocolates anywhere in my area. read more

Oh my goodness. You will never guess how cool this place is from it's vanilla exterior. Once you walk in, you're greeted by the scent of freshly baked bread and unlimited delicacies. WOW. There's a deli section, all kinds of kielbasa, jars of jams and other treats, a dairy section, beer, coffee, it goes on. You need to stop by to appreciate it. It's really awesome and everyone who works there is SO friendly. I was able to contain myself to getting 2lbs of angel wings, poppy seed bread and a couple different beers, a self made sampler if you will. I shared the angel wings with my coworkers and they flipped! Both those and the poppy seed bread have the perfect amount of soft sweetness and crunch. I can't wait to go back and see what treasures I find next ! read more

My go to for comfort food! Polish Whole Foods, they have everything. All things Eastern European and made like babci used to

Great hot food deli, all the polish food you would ever want. Never had a bad experience there, been going there since I was a youngster, highly recommend! read more

I'd heard so much about the baked goods at Roly Poly--I had to check it out. I walked in expecting to find a bakery and was pleased to find a 3-for-1 bakery-deli-grocery store combo instead. The place was massive, with shelves lining every wall and open space, bursting with Polish staples. We headed straight to the bakery counter and were met with cases of cakes, cookies, pastries and paczkis. The staff could tell we were struggling to choose and graciously helped us out. We opted for the paczki with rose, a poppyseed Danish and a couple slices of the Chocolate Rolling Hills. When we left, our arms were full of paper bags and plastic containers of sweets. I loved elements of each item we picked. The poppyseed Danish was massive, and cost us less than $2! I loved the sweet, crisp topping of the exterior, but was not a huge fan of the filling. The Chocolate Rolling Hills had a layer of custard that reminded me of a Boston Cream donut. The paczki ($1.50) was stuffed with a fragrant rose jam. Regardless of your tastes, Roly Poly is bound to have something you'll enjoy. Stop by this iconic establishment the next time you're in Little Poland! read more

This is much much more than a bakery. SOoooo many treats and goodies here, from Polish food, pastries and desserts to ethnic and unique grocery items offered, closest to getting them from the old country. Must see this fun atmosphere because it is like the Disney World of "BAKERIES"!! read more

Fantastic food, unbelievable selection, charming, helpful employees. I really miss this store as I have moved.

Love, Love, Love this store. There are other markets that I visit, but this is for sure the best one with one stop shop. Store is always beautifully decorated for all holidays, plenty of staff during busy times, so line moves smoothly. Many employees speak English, and are happy to help. Because they are busy hams and all meats are always fresh. Smacznego! read more

We've been shopping "Little Poland" for years and we just discovered "Roly Poly," which, in our opinion, is like the "Trader Joe's" or "Whole Foods" of all foodstuffs Polish! OMG! Start with the bakery. Case is chock full or all kinds of tortes, donuts, cakes, cookies and everything ever made with poppy seed! Try the poppy seed coffee torte! Outstanding! There is prepared food for take out, with every imaginable type of sweet or savory pieroghi and more. Fried fish, pork and everything fresh, including beet salad, cucumber salad and so much more! They have a large selection of Polish dairy products, butter, sweet, salt, Kefir, milk, Farmer's cheese and everything you need! From now, on, instead of all the smaller stores, we're heading straight to Roly Poly! Service is quick, customers are treated well and the place is super clean and decorated for Easter! DO NOT MISS THIS PLACE! read more

Fantastic for any meat or pickle or Polish foods lover. Freshly baked breads and sweet pastry/cake selection is also fantastic. Looking for Euro chocolates, including illegal Kinder eggs? This is your place. Jars of jams, pickled cabbage or beets, endless choices of horseradish or instant "soup cups" and flavorful seasoning gravy packs: Roly Poly has it. Vegetarians? Not really much here beyond some hummus flavors, interesting cheese spread flavors, cheeses, and a ridiculously tiny fresh vegetable section. We ended up with a bit of everything; jars of pickled veg, Polish Maggi, fresh grainy bread, smoked meats, sweet Polish doughnuts, smoked cheese, chips, chocolate, and a selection of prepared (meat based) hot foods for the coming blizzard this weekend. Quarters are a bit close in the store, but everyone was masked up. Worth a stop whenever in the area! read more

Parking lot was like a new concept here. Nobody knew how to park straight in a spot or yield the right of way. Once inside, super inefficient policy of having baked goods in same line as meats. Got fed up waiting in line and just left. read more

Pretty amazing bakery and market. I've been here multiple times now during my stay in Connecticut for both the delicious baked goods and food from the hot deli section. Quite a nice variety to choose from and was excited to be able to get Paczki's while being away from Detroit this year! read more

This was such a cool place! I really enjoyed walking around looking at all of the imported products, and the pastry counter was impressive. Our only complaint was after we checked out, we realized that we were overcharged for something we bought versus what the sticker price stated. We appreciated that after we disputed it, we were refunded. read more

Roly Poly is the best Polish bakery / deli / grocery store this side of Warsaw. I cooked a few links of their kielbasa last night and my wife said she was going to leave me for Roly Poly's sausage maker. Plus the grocery prices are really reasonable - $1.99 for imported Polish mustard? You can't beat Roly Poly! read more

Today, I stopped in and got a chicken cutlet, a roll, and four pierogi. Then, I took everything over to the dining area, sliced open the roll to make a sandwich (adding some mayo that they had out), and enjoyed an incredibly delicious lunch that you can't get anywhere else for about $7. Remarkable. I also noticed that they'd added a few English labels for some of the hot prepared foods. Appreciated! read more

Tried Roly Poly for the first time today and it lived up to its reputation! We got a few different types of pastries and bread that my fiancé made sandwiches with for dinner and all were fabulous. We will definitely be going back! read more

Cute, delicious food and friendly workers!!! The bakery is to die for!!!! Such a great little store

This place has is beautiful, with so many Eastern European foods and other items. The people were so kind. The store gets 4 stars I would give it 5 stars but I went there to specifically to try a Polish doughnut called Pączki. I first had one at a friends wedding in NY later I would enjoy Big Y's version. I have to say I was disappointed with there Roly polys version, Big Y's is better in my opinion. Although they do have exotic fillings like rose and black current, I did like that there fillings weren't as sweet but the dough was too doughy/ bready not soft enough for me. Also the custard in the Boston cream really didn't taste good. There Pączki gets 1 star. It's possible that they just had a bad day ..idk... we're all allowed one... The store really is lovely. You should visit. Just don't eat the doughnuts. read more

The prices are so high here. It's one-stop shopping for Polish soul food - if you're not in the mood to proceed up Broad Street to shop at their competition. The place is trading on its name. Recently, an $8 loaf of bread was stale. Macaroni salad with vegetables was lackluster - and expensive - at $7. You can get better cold cuts at the top of the hill. There are things here you can't get elsewhere. The staff is brusque yet efficient. They need to smile more. Try it for the sheer size of the place. read more

Little Poland in New Britain is a really cool neighborhood. I encourage everyone to stop and walk around as there are a lot of delis and bakeries. We actually found the area because we were looking for paczkis and Google lead us to the Roly Poly Bakery. (Love the name). This is much more than a bakery. It's a full Polish grocery store with a deli and any item you might need. I picked up a great cherry Kefir from a brand that I'd never heard of and honestly, it's the best Kefir I've had. We also picked up several paczkis (the cream filled were the winners), blood sausage and some yummy Polish candy. Prices were great. It was very crowded which was the only drawback. I hate getting crowded out of aisles and bumped into and that happened several times as I tried to look around the store. We enjoyed the store and the area so much that we're going back for a day trip to explore! read more

If you want the real deal authentic polish food, this is where you go! If you don't speak polish you might have a hard time ordering things but for the most part it's easy to get across what you want. Obviously you need to get kielbasa and pierogis. Ahhhhhmazing. The fresh ones are the best (potatoe and cheese are the best but if they have dessert ones you NEED to buy them because they always sell out) but they have frozen ones imported from Poland which are just as good if you want to make them at home. I recommend the Alexandra brand. All the baked goods are delicious and the breads are great as well. I could spend hours in this store! So many things I can't wait to come back and try. read more

Great super market for all polish items It was worth the 11/2 hour drive They also have a terrific selection of prepared foods read more

The store is great. Offers wonderful selection of products. WHY during the peak of covid are most all of the employees unmasked? All it shows me is the group of you could care less about your customers. Gave me an uncomfortable feeling being there. read more

I have a sweet tooth so the dark-side of me tends to indulge in the various cookies sold here. To begin with, the 1st floor has the mini café, bakery section, meat section, hot meals (Polish) section, & aisles of Polish food for your pantry. The food is fresh & decently-priced. Meanwhile, the 2nd floor is equipped w/ small dining tables & chairs to dine-in. Roly Poly...even the name of this establishment is good. read more

Whether you are Polish or not, this place is super exciting. Considering it is in the heart of Hard Hittin', this place is impeccable inside while being authentically Polish. I love the fact that many of the items are imported and reasonably priced. The ladies working at the deli were very sweet as I asked for chicken loaf, garlic deli meat ham, and pepper jack cheese. Their seeded rye bread is insanely awesome and this place puts Pol-Mart into shame. I had such a wonderful experience that I may have to go here on a weekly basis to get all of my lunch fixings. read more

I ordered a cake here for my son's birthday party. It cost $69 and was beautiful. After one taste, all of my guests were horrified. It tasted like someone dumped a box of chemical cleaner in the frosting. We were all afraid we would get sick and had no cake for the party. When I took the cake to the store the next day, I was treated like I was trying to get over on them. I was very kind and only asked for a token to make up for the ruined cake, maybe a partial store credit. I was treated horribly and left very upset. I very much DON'T recommend this place to anyone unless you want a ruined party and to be treated like a thief. read more

What a gem! I worked in New Britain for years but this was my first visit but not my last. I was so in awe of the amount of delicacies that I definitely have to return soon. I did manage to get some super sandwich rolls and two kinds of liver wurst. Also found a good variety of Kefir of which I bought a blueberry version and it is delicious. Will be back there soon. read more

The outside of the building doesn't look like much, but the inside is quite impressive! I was blown away when I stepped inside for the first time. It reminds me of a Trader Joes, but filled entirely of Polish food. The sign outside says "Roly Poly Bakery" so I was expecting to find a small bakery inside. But what I found was a mini-market, full of frozen goods, packaged goods, deli meats, pastries, candies, drinks and condiments. All imported from Poland! They even have a hot-foods counter in the rear and a sandwich counter up front. Darn, on the day I visited they were out of kielbasi :-( It's a great store. No wonder on one particular Saturday afternoon the place was packed with customers. They were mostly Polish speaking customers. I think I was the only English speaking customer, but many of the staff do speak English (so no worries with the communications gap). I couldn't read a damn thing but I loved looking at all the European packaging and different brands. It made me feel like I was in Europe. I purchased a few items. Prices were actually very good. Usually imported items from Europe are higher priced but I did not find that to be the case. OMG, I purchased a 10.3 oz candy bar (made in Poland of course) for only $2.09. I thought the price was a misprint because it was such a bargain. It tasted great too! The only thing they don't have is much produce. But I guess the assumption is you can purchase those items from your regular grocery store and they don't need to be imported all the way from Poland. read more

Prices went way up since covid, they have a great selection, prepared foods are really good except I think they changed the pierogi because they seemed thick this time I got them, just everything was outrageously priced I don't think I'll be back, I would always come in pre covid and it would be packed, last weekend I went in and people had masks halfway down the faces and the bread was all out in the open and self serve I was definitely shocked to see that during a pandemic, I steered clear of the bread, got kielbasa and a bunch of prepared food and everything was really good I just can believe how much they went up in pricing though I can't see where the extra cost goes since there isn't much protocol in place for covid read more

Several employees behind the pastry and hot food counts er not wearing masks breathing all over the food. One customer with a baby asked an employee to please wear a mask and the employee screamed all over her "I don't care!" If you value your health, Don't go here. read more

Great grocery/deli/bakery! Stopped in on the weekend after Thanksgiving when we couldn't stand the thought of turkey. Picked up some ready-made food. The galumpkies were incredible! The pierogi were good too but we got the meat ones - next time would get cheese. We will be back! read more

If you've ever wanted to experience the joys of Poland but such a trip isn't in your budget right now, take a trip to Roly Poly. From the outside Roly Poly looks like a non-descript "market/bakery" but inside it is filled with all sorts of good stuff including desserts, deli meat, prepared foods, candy, staples. You name it, you'll find it at Roly Poly. The people who work there are warm and helpful, making it feel like you're part of a family rather than just another customer in a shop. read more
