Despite moving to Colchester, H&P is still my auto mechanic. I don't trust anyone else. Whenever I go, they always tell me what needs to be fixed immediately vs what can wait longer, and for how much longer. They're always honest and I never feel taken advantage of or ripped off - so important when dealing with an auto mechanic. Whenever I've compared prices, H&P always has the best value. I never felt cheated or hoodwinked. Very honest, thorough but quick work. If I could, I would have brought the whole shop along with me when I moved. If ur buying a new car (new new or new used)..he will take it in and spend 8 hours meticulously going thru every part and system of the vehicle to make sure ur not buying a lemon. And oh yeah.. I forgot..HE DOESNT CHARGE A DIME FOR IT!! If you bring him ur car and you think something is wrong with it, he will do a comprehensive exam and if nothing is wrong then he doesn't charge you a single dollar. he charges almost nothing for labor. if he spends the whole day checking stuff out and he doesn't find anything wrong..you will not get a bill. he did a 6 hour tune up and brake job on my truck and charged me $30 dollars TOTAL for labor. while the minimum per hour charge of ANY other mechanic in this state is $75-$90 per HOUR. That saves you, the customer $720 dollars off ur bill. he's a rare man, especially for mechanics.. doesn't try and rope you into buying or paying for stuff you don't need and doesn't do a whole bunch of extra stuff that's unnecessary and once it's fixed it's REALLY fixed and you will have zero concerns. if you are a customer of his and dont have a certain tool or wrench etc..he will let you borrow anything you want, no charge. What mechanic in the world would do that and on top of it wouldn't immediately tell you to come in so he can make money off of you. Do urself a favor and go to B and D automotive. for very special items that only dealers and specialty shops usually do he will refer you to another shop in the area who won't screw you on the price as well. As a single woman I always feel like auto places will take advantage that I know nothing about…read morecars, not the case here! I purchased an older car a few weeks ago for my son. I'd had another auto guy tell me I needed new brakes, new transmission and engine mounts and a bunch of other repairs, so decided to get a quote a 'south street auto' Kevin the owner said I only needed brake bracket parts and cleaning, and something with the power steering but that my brakes were almost new and the engine looked great. I asked him to do everything on the car while I was there to make sure it was safe for my college aged son to drive and it all totaled $414. I saved a few thousand by coming here. I noted that every guy that came in was a 50-70 year old local who had obviously been taking their cars there for years. This is now my go-to auto place. Kevin could have told me anything was wrong with my car and I'd have no clue but he obviously runs a honest and extremely fair priced.

*DO NOT COME HERE UNLESS YOU WANT TO SPEND $10K IN REPAIRS*…read moreMy wife and I were going to the store when our 18' Toyota Tacoma stopped working, so we called AAA to tow our vehicle to the nearest shop which was unfortunately, South Green Automotive. They told us our alternator was dead, so they replaced it. Charged us a good amount of money which we thought was a little bit on the expensive side but they gave us a warranty so we had that to fall back on. At least that's what we thought... Not even six months later, and our alternator failed again which led us to think that maybe they had a defective alternator so we called back to see if we can get into the warranty that they promised us, and basically had to beg them to honor their warranty, which seemed very sketchy and just unprofessional for me. They charged us the parts plus the labor cost when a lot of shops waive the labor because of the warranty and only have the customer pay the parts. Unfortunately, this was not one of the shops. Not even three months later, and the car failed again so I decided to take matters into my own hands and change the alternator and the battery so that way they wouldn't be any failure of the charging system with both parts being brand new. That only lasted for about 2 to 3 weeks, so after being fed up with this issue, I decided to take it to the Toyota dealership which told me that the alternator connector was severed, the pins were damaged and misaligned which caused the alternator to fail. Two years, Four alternators, three batteries and $10,000 later I am now hoping that my car will be fixed tomorrow so I can finally drive it. It is a shame that AAA allows for these kind of shops to continue providing service without any sort of checks or balances, because something as simple as a connector could've been inspected and repaired. Then again, Toyota mentioned that they have only seen BAD MECHANICS sever connectors and wires. There's a reason this place less than 50 reviews.
