This place is a lot bigger than the prior two cafes we went to before this, though still felt cozy and intimate. The decor was great, and I loved the carpet (tiny rugs) on the tables. To drink, I ordered a Hazy Jane IPA, which was both tasty and refreshing. We ordered at the bar and grabbed a table at the back of the cafe, which was spacious and relaxing. Service was great during our time here, and prices were in line with everywhere else we had been to. If looking for a cool brown cafe to grab a drink at, Het Elfde Gebod is a great option. I would definitely recommend it, especially for beer drinkers.

Most places that…read moreyou stop off at in the 'Dam will be pouring pitchers of Heineken, and maybe one or two others. But this place has such an amazing selection of beers, you'll want to try at least one of everything (which I don't recommend, because then you'd be dead). But suffice to say, you'll never have to have the same beer twice. We stopped by here early in the evening for a few drinks, and ended up staying until they closed. A fellow traveller kept us company as we dived face first into beer after beer, and before you could say 'silly drunk tourists' we were stumbling out and looking for food. I love Belgian beers, but they're not as common in Amsterdam as one might have hoped for. Stopping by this wonderful bar was exactly what I was craving. This was also the night before King's Day, so it was a bit wild in the city. We were looking for something a little more downtempo, and so this place was perfect. The proprietor was really friendly, as well. I can't speak on the prices, because honestly by the time the bill came round I was more than a bit wasted. And you know what? Some experiences are worth paying a bit for. This is one of them.

Ranked 19 of 3418 restaurants in Amsterdam on Tripadvisor. Good ambiance with a front row seat of a view of the river, and lighted buildings on the other side. Service has to be good, as they offer a daily complimentary breakfast buffet to Hilton Gold and Diamond guests of the hotel . Among their breakfast offerings are fried fish, fried chicken, and beef meatballs. They also offer a late afternoon happy hour with drinks and appetizers in the executive lounge for Hilton Diamond members. We ate here our first night in Amsterdam for dinner, as we were tired and unfamiliar with our surroundings. The 6 euro mixed salad came with cucumbers, raw onion rings, croutons and mixed greens in a vinaigrette sauce. Loved the raw onion rings, which went well with the mixed greens in a large bowl. The 26 euro sea bass came in a tomato risotto with lentils. Portion size on the small side, but wife ate the entire fillet without any problems. Pricey for what you get. The 21 euro hamburger came with the usual lettuce, tomato, but no pickle. Thick rings of raw onions over a half pound medium cooked by default beef patty, along with bacon and cheddar. This burger was so large it was definitely a knife and fork job, as too big for any mouth. I declined the fries, which cost 6 euros, and enjoyed the burger, covered with a zesty bbq sauce. No cheddar cheese for me, as not a cheese fan. Steaks run from the 25-euro 160 gram Lady steak to the 105-euro 1000 gram Bife de Tira sirlon steak. 1 euro is about $1.05. Prices seem expensive but include 9% tax and tip. Also enclosed a picture of the fruit sampling at breakfast, along with a razor thin Dutch pancake. I'll stick to the pancakes back in the USA. BTW no pictures of Clint Eastwood anywhere to be seen.

The place is packed at night and I don't get why maybe because of convenience. I tried their chicken crispy item it is unseasoned, skirt steak which is a piece of meat not really skirt steak unseasoned as well. The burger has no salt or pepper and it has this onion compote that is way too sour. The kimchi served with the h lien is weird. The steam vegetables when brought to the table smelled bad. OK I will stop now and hoping that they will improve the quality taste and presentation.

So this one's for you, American traveler! If you're in Amsterdam, do yourself a huge favor and visit Vesper - especially if you're a real fan of real gin, or genever, or jenever. Or whatever! The menu is delicious. I visited Vesper twice during my trip to Amsterdam. Each night, a very different experience. Both were met with a hospitable warm welcome, a cozy atmosphere, and fine craft cocktails where gin is supreme. Food: (drinks!) On my 1st visit, I enjoyed Vesper's Negroni. Smooth. Easy to drink more than one. While the small space was standing room only when we arrived, once a seat cleared up they brought us a small bowl of bar snacks, common at respectable craft bars in Amsterdam. During the second visit, it started off with us saying, "just one drink" and ended up with us shutting the place down with the bartenders over patron shots. It started off gently with their signature, Vesper - sweet and refreshing, and espresso martini - bold. Then I opened my mouth and we were there until until 2 trying whatever bartender Airto recommended, and you're in good hands when the bartender takes over! Service: On both occasions the bartender's made us feel at home with Joop greeting us at the door with a warm welcome as if we met before and we just stepped into his home. He cares about his customers as much as his neighbors in his quaint, quiet neighborhood. On the second night, our drinks were in the safe hands of Airto. He took great care of us, explaining each drink he crafted. Expanding our knowledge and taste of gin with not one, but two variations of jenever, and old style genever. Ambiance: You never know what you're going to get when you visit Vesper-hospitality and fine cocktails aside. Sure it's cute and quaint with a surprise basement in the floor. I implore you to make nice with your bartenders, explore off menu, be ready to stand, stay awhile to soak up the space, good music, and smooth drinks. I cannot wait for the next opportunity to return and enjoy more of Vesper. Thank you for the generous hospitality and warm welcome by the Vesper staff on the Friday & Saturday of November 11, 2023 of this last visit.
