Went there with a small group of fellow yelpers. The place was newly opened in a new location. Wijn and Ko doesn't have an ambience of a restaurant or a wine cellar, but more like a big open bar place..I wasnt very impressed with the interior. What about the wine - they have a very big selection of different wines per glass or only per bottle. The prices are pretty steep and they start with 3.75 Euro and quickly go up. I had some wine for 3.75 or 4.75 and they were ok, however I had better and for a lower price. I tried a really nice one for 5.75. It was a good wine, but the price quality wasn't that great. If talking about the food. We had a big meat platter to share and vegetarian platter. They were ok, nothing too fancy and also quite pricey I must say. Later we found out that they also had a special 3 course menu offer for 25 - which sounded like a good deal. We went for dessert only option - creme brullee and cheese platter - they were pretty nice. Service..ah..this is a part that is the cherry on the top and it either makes this a good place or not. The waiter who was taking care of our wine orders wasnt very service oriented. He would bring the wine to men first and then serve the ladies. What even shocked me a lot more..was that they should know what temperature the wine should be served at...When commenting that my red wine was way too cold - negroamaro is not served chilled...he said that it will warm up..right..maybe after 2 hours of warming it with my hands..Luckily owner of the place had a different service approach and exchanged it right away. Did I like this place? It was ok, but because I was in a great company. Would I go back there? I am not sure.

Three hours and 20 minutes later we made the 11 foot hike back to our unique three story lodging (it's the purple fronted place to the left of Wijn and Ko, next door, literally) in a food nirvana state of mind. This is a 6 star place with all the pieces in place.

Since it's my favorite place, I looked it up on maps and saved it. When I was there a month or so later, I was riding my bike in the afternoon and saw someone sitting near the front window working on his MacBook with a nice glass or white wine. I immediately slammed the brakes and parked my bike! Fortunately I had my MacBook so I could get some work done and drink some great wine at 4 PM (16:00 hours). Bottom line is you simply purchase a 20-30 euro card (or whatever you want) when you get there and can just choose from any wine in the restaurant. It's awesome. The notable thing is, the bartenders are wonderful and very helpful. They don't just let you fend for yourself, they assist you, give you advice, even free samples! Awesome place. Also, great food too! Try the oysters! They have bitterballen (of course) all day - then dinner and food all night. My favorite dinner place in Overtoom. Don't be afraid as I was the first time - when it was really crowded. Friendly and warm place - gezellig!

This atmosphere was absolutely beautiful and intimate. A very lovely place if you wanted to go on a date as well. Clean, organised and just lovely. I would highly recommend and would definitely go back if I have the opportunity. At first, you might think it's a little sketchy because it is downstairs but it's only to give you the maximum privacy in a church not to mention!! Remember that these visits are personalised, I'm honestly so happy I found this place and I had a perfect time. You are also not restricted to spending just one hour as per your reservation, there's ample time to lounge and talk. This was great, please go experience!

We are from Virginia which is growing in wine popularity so we've been to our fair share of wineries and wine stores. This place is not like anywhere we've been before. It's underneath Melly's Cookie Bar (http://www.yelp.com/biz/mellys-cookie-bar-amsterdam), meaning you go INTO the Cookie Bar to get to it. But once downstairs you are in a whole different world of coziness and wine with a man (José) who knows his stuff! He is super friendly, but professional and helpful and just wants to find you a wine you will love! I dare you to go here and not love it! I'm taking everyone who visits me here because it is that awesome.

The chicken was juicy and vegetables were tasty. The cheese board was huge with a nice selection of cheese. The pretzels were hot and buttery . They have a few photos on the wall that try to give a more risqué ambience but considering the clientele (largely kids and locals) the posters just kinda stick out. All in all, a welcome spot as long as they don't make walking on the sidewalk up front difficult during the warmer months.

We made a reservation to celebrate a friend's engagement, and so we got to say "one of each!" to every plate. They were so accommodating with dietary restrictions, and carefully mapped out which plates I could have, while adjusting others as possible. Every plate had amazing sauces, so we really put "fare la scarpetta" to work with our bread. Some standouts that we all loved were the langoustine with sweetbread and the eggplant with miso. The atmosphere was cozy and made us reluctant to leave at the end. Thank you, Gertrude, for an amazing dinner. We'll definitely be back!

We were seated outdoors on their charming terrace, facing the street, which is jammed with fun street-side restaurants. Plenty of people watching! We were having a great time and it was clear that the rest of the guests were, too. It felt like a chic and delightful party. The absolute highlight of our meal was the fresh French artichoke, which was nearly as big as my head. That I could have one served to me this minute! It was the BEST I have ever had, and I'm crazy about artichokes. Lamentably, it was served with a bland mayonnaise (or was it a bland Hollandaise?), while it was begging for something acidic (artichokes are alkaline in flavor), so I asked for a vinaigrette. They brought me the mignonette sauce for oysters, instead. Better, but not much. Everything else I sampled was good, but I would go back many times over and simply gorge on artichokes. So would everybody else, from what I could see. Every single table ordered one or more. Gertrude's encourages family-style sharing, and the focus is on dishes that showcase the flavors of a few simple ingredients. There is room for improvement. With just a few tweaks, this place might deserve a Michelin star.
