Broken down interior, grumpy old bartender lady, and 3 beers on tap. Yep, I'll take it.
While making my way through the Red Light District in Amsterdam (yes, JUST making my way) I stumbled upon Café Dijk almost by accident. Walking by the entrance, I only saw the bartender sitting and chatting with, what looked to be, a couple regulars of the joint. Just chatting and drinking and laughing....somehow, although the bar was otherwise dead, that small social scene of theirs really appealed to me.
I sat at the bar, and promptly ordered an Amstel. Then another one, and another one. I felt like I was right in a neighborhood bar at home like College Inn. Neighborhood regulars, weathered interior, and a bartender that can receive both your orders and your confessions - all form an unbeatable recipe.
So if walking down the narrow, corruption filled alley ways of the Red Light District leave you thirsty for a beer or an aquavit, come on by to Cafe Dijk 120, where you will have a drink in peace, sans loudness and pretention. read more
