Agustin's Exotic Birds and Reptiles - My baby boy!!

Agustin's Exotic Birds and Reptiles

(70 reviews)

Excellent reptile and bird store I've been a customer of since they were located across the street…read morefrom the Michael's/Sprouts complex at Anza and PCH years ago. Agustin's shop is clean, whimsically decorated with a really cool fish and turtle pond in front and the reptiles and birds are very well taken care of. Agustin helped me out a couple of years ago when I had to move my Mom out of her home and into an Assisted Living Facility and had to re-home her two large birds. Agustin found a buyer for her Moluccan Cockatoo at a fair price and a home for her other bird. I continue to frequent Agustin's for a feeder rat for my daughter's snake. I have noticed prices have gone up considerably over the years but what hasn't. I do appreciate their frequent feeder mouse/rat card and that they use double paper bags for the critters because they do like to chew free. They always have a great display of reptiles and birds I like to walk through, too. HIGHLY RECOMMEND for your reptile and bird needs.

Even after you purchase any animal from them, they go above and beyond to support their customers. Couldn't recommend them enough!

Let me start by saying I didn't want to write this review. I only got to this point after trying to…read moreresolve the situation directly with them. I brought my pug, Chloe, in on Thursday 4/23 at 4pm. I've used their $80 grooming service three times prior with no issues. This visit was a completely different experience. I was told the service would take about 50 minutes. When I arrived, the groomer was still not finished, and I waited an additional ~20 minutes. The groomer (I believe his name was Drew) explained that he had cut one of Chloe's nails too short, which caused it to bleed for an extended period. I was obviously concerned, but still paid and left a tip and left. Since that visit, Chloe has developed multiple bumps across her body that appear to be a reaction to the products used. She has been extremely itchy, reluctant to walk, and has had a decreased appetite. This has been ongoing for several days. I reached out to the business to address this, especially as some of the bumps began to look worse. Despite explaining the situation, they declined to take any responsibility. I was also told they rotate between different grooming products depending on the groomer, which was concerning given that Chloe had no issues during her previous visits. I explained that I may need to take her to the vet due to the severity of her symptoms and that I didn't feel comfortable covering both the grooming cost and potential vet expenses given the outcome. Their response was that they would not provide a refund and the only thing offered was to return the $10 tip. Based on the other negative reviews, it appears that the owner is hard to work with and also lacks accountability. If you look at the attached screenshots, i still decided to disengage when she mentioned she was expecting. Regardless, she should have delegated her business to someone else while she is going through something extremely important while instead coming off as dismissive and lacking empathy. I'm very disappointed with how this was handled. Additionally, it took multiple days to confirm my appointment, and I had to follow up the day before to ensure it was still scheduled. Based on this experience, I would not return. Take a look at the screenshots and you be the judge.

Our old groomer moved and was no longer available so we were in the process of trying to find a new…read moreone for our 14 year old dog. His face and body turned out great but his butt and tail, which were areas I specifically asked to focus on, were not. His butt was uneven (left cheek was shaved down, looked neat while right cheek still had a huge chunk of hair) and his tail looked untouched. I didn't realize how bad it was until we got home. I texted the salon back immediately and sent pictures. They offered to fix it if I brought him back but we didn't have time for that. After multiple back and forth with the manager, Paulina, the only resolution they continued to offer was 10% off of a future visit. After this experience, there won't be a future visit so that's not much of a resolution. It was a very disappointing experience and I would not recommend.

We recently took our dog to Love on a Leash Grooming. The actual grooming job was great, her cut…read morelooked clean, even, and the groomer put effort into getting through her matted fur. The pricing and communication were the frustrating part. We were quoted $85 on the phone, which sounded totally fair. When we dropped her off, the price went up to $110 because of matting .. understandable, but would've been good to know before we drove there. After the groom, they added another $10 because our dog was "difficult to work with." When we went to pay, there was also a fee for using a card. None of this was mentioned up front, so the whole experience felt like surprise charges stacked on top of each other rather than a clear price from the start. Unfortunately, our dog developed a UTI afterward. Our vet said the very close shave around her vulva area could have caused irritation and likely played a role. We had to get antibiotics and a follow-up exam, which cost another $140. So, a grooming visit that started at $85 ended up being a lot more than expected and could've been avoided. We don't think anyone meant for this to happen, but being more careful around sensitive spots on female dogs would be appreciated. And being upfront about pricing and possible extra charges would prevent a lot of frustration. Overall, the haircut looked great, but the unexpected fees and the aftermath made it hard to walk away happy. With better communication and gentleness, this could've been a positive experience.
