My company rented out Roller King for 2 hours to host a holiday party. What a blast! Roller King was very accomodating to our group. When I arrived, they knew we were coming (sad to say this has not happened with other coordinated events in the are). I was buzzed into skate room, and went to get my skates. A few notes about skates: they can tighten the wheels to help beginners, and they do have roller blades available, but they cost an extra $3. Before most of our party arrived, the DJ asked what kind of music we wanted to be played. Since it was a family friendly event, our only guideline was "radio edit." I know a few people put in requests, and there were some throwbacks- thriller & pour some sugar on me... They helped us coordinate food - pizza and pitchers of soda. I liked that they taped labels on the sodas, so you knew what you were drinking. I was expecting cardboard pizza, but it was pretty good. Reminded me of Costco. It fueled my skating, that's for sure. I haven't roller skated since probably the 7th grade, so I was apprehensive to say the least. But then I said to myself "Why not get the (free) activity and try something new?" I spent most of our event on the floor- about an hour and a half total. Even 2 days later, I'm still sore!! Cardio does NOT prepare you for the muscles needed to roller skate! The facility itself seemed clean and well maintained. And spacious!! There are several party rooms, and benches/tables throughout the establishment. There are lockers available for rent, and several game machines. Minus one star because the bathroom was closed while our party was ending. I assume that means they keep their restrooms clean, but I had a REALLY long drive home. Also, their sinks are located outside of the restrooms, so you can wash your hands w/o having to go inside. First time at Roller King with my sons 4th grade class. We had the whole rink to ourselves. 60 plus kids. It was so much fun. The kids had a wonderful time. They had those pvc walkers for the kids. Which really helped the kids by the end a lot of kids didn't need it anymore. A parent took a good fall and one of the workers came and asked if she was okay. A kid fell pretty hard and the same worker came to check on the child. I thought that was really nice of him. Towards the end the kids wanted snacks from the vending machine,those machines were old and hard to work with. A child told the worker that he had put his money in the machine but nothing came out. The worker stated she will have to check the cameras to see if he actually put the money in the machine. Over all it was a great day and I want to go back there again. Recently, I bravely volunteered as a chaperone for my kids (2nd Graders) Field trip to Roller King. Just the thought of roller skating brought back so many fun childhood memories. From the tacky carpet, the snack bar and oval shaped rink... Roller King embodied of all that! I'm glad a family owned business like Roller King is still around. I wasn't sure what the field trip would be about but I was pleasantly surprised at how educational it actually was. I guess Roller King participates in a STEM program which comes with a certified instructor. Since the bus driver was late to pick us up, we walked in the midst of her introductions but she was super nice and patient with the kids as they settled in. On each table were roller skates which the kids used for a couple experiments. Besides actually being able to roller skate at the end, taking apart the roller skates with the instructor was a crowd pleaser. My kids had a blast on the field trip and one even asked to have her birthday here. I'm sure who came up with this STEM field trip idea but it was genius! Great program for the little ones but I seen on their website that they offer different types of lessons. The smiles and laughter (some with scraps on their knees;)) Roller King brought to all the kids faces was definitely priceless and I'm glad I joined in on the fun! read more

Went for PG&E family Christmas get together rink is nice but needs some updating. Shares are decent. They have skating guards for the kids. You have to step down for skating floor and bathroom slopes which can both be a hazard if you are a beginner or not skated in forever. Had pizza, salad and dessert but think that was brought in. Needed to leave right when party ended as people were already coming in for a practice session. It's right off freeway which makes it convenient. read more

It is a solidly good place. The arcade was working in the summer and there is plenty of seating with almost everyone being able to get table to put their things. The only thing I wished they would change is the laces on the roller blades. Without the buckle there is not enough support on the ankles. I can only come here if I buy roller skates. I cannot borrow from here. While that is the reason i can't come back yet, I'm not saying that you shouldn't. It's a great place. read more

An absolute $h*+ show... I haven't been since 2005 probably... and nothing had changed or been updated. It still has that same smell. It's overpriced for what you get. The main concern are the "skatemates" that you can rent for the little kids who need support. There is no time limit so families literally get ten of them and hog them all while they gorge on pizza. Meanwhile, my two year old is falling over herself the whole time because there were no more skatemates. The cashiers are angsty, disgruntled teens who don't give a flying - and tell you to go kick rocks. Not sure if covid is making all these workers inconsiderate to customers or if they've always been like that. It took an hour to get a skatemates so my kid could finally go and that was only because I asked a fellow customer to borrow hers. It seems you have to get there right at opening to get open otherwise all these people will hog them the whole session while they're not even using them. We only got to skate for an hour or so before they kick everyone out to "sanitize". If you wanted to keep skating, you would have to return everything... stand outside in line, repay for the next session, and then come it again. With small kids, that's not doable. This was super stressful and lackluster experience. Way too overpriced and the staff was not kind. Won't be going back to here - I'll go to sunrise rollerland. Edited to add : I was told by who I'm assuming is the assistant manager (female, African American) that there was no time limit for the skate mates and basically sorry oh well attitude. Absolutely no help from any of your staff or a caring attitude. I was treated as an inconvenience and an annoyance. Since my child is 2, she of course needed one and I spent an hour trying to ask all the people sitting down to eat if they were still using their skate mate (one table had nine skate mates) and despite being at the table eating for over thirty minutes eating, they wouldn't give it up to a two year old. The workers were super rude. There's no waitlist for the skatemates so I wasted my time. When one did come available, even though the manager knew I've been looking for one and checking back in every so often, it was just sitting there behind the register. I would have appreciated a heads up and she come get me and say hey, it's available, I know you've been waiting for one this whole time for your small child. As a business owner, you need to be able to accept constructive criticism on how to improve. The attitudes can be the first to improve. read more

TL;DR: This rink is EXTREMELY UNSAFE, especially for young/inexperienced skaters. Moreover, management resorts to threats and violent behavior to cover up injuries. Here's the root of the problem: the entire northern edge of the rink is bordered by a carpet-covered concrete step about six inches high. When you're a flailing, stumbling new skater, you flail and stumble right over that step and face-plant the metal picnic tables this rink lines up right next to that concrete step. (This is why virtually all other rinks have a three- or four-foot-high WALL surrounding them, rather than a concrete step. Walls prevent serious injuries.) To add to the issue, the floor is "gummy"--that is, it's stickier than a standard wooden skating floor--and that increases the risk of new skaters falling on that concrete edge or the adjacent tables. I'm a skilled skater. For a while, I even refereed roller derby, including many bouts at this rink. I realized the step was a hazard, but figured meh, I just won't trip on it, right? Then I took my seven-year-old child to this rink, and she immediately fell and face-planted the rink's notorious concrete step. Commence two days of concussion-watch, followed by a black eye and a bruised nose. Add to that the rink's COMPLETELY unsympathetic position toward injured children--the "owner" (he's actually the general manager; his father owns the business) had a group of hockey parents forcibly remove my husband and child from the premises after my husband asked for a copy of the rink's incident report documenting our daughter's injury. One of the hockey parents FOLLOWED MY HUSBAND AND DAUGHTER OUT TO THE CAR, threatening them both with physical injury the whole way. This rink masquerades as kid-friendly--but there's a whole lot of money to be made in kid-friendly, isn't there? Apparently it's just not profitable to make the rink KID-SAFE, though. EDIT: Responding to manager's comment below. I am indeed a practicing attorney. Over the phone, I requested a copy of the incident report a rink employee made detailing my daughter's injury. The manager outright refused. I'm sure any sympathetic parent would understand why I would want a copy of a document describing a physical injury my young child suffered at the premises. Regarding the hockey practice: my mistake. It was speed-skating practice, which does not change the fact that a number of adult men from that group harassed and physically threatened my husband (who was taking photos of the concrete step where our daughter's face was smashed), in our daughter's presence. My husband used no profanity--he was there with a school trip full of young children and teachers, all of whom can attest to that. Again, the manager essentially used speed-skating parents as bouncers to oust the father of an injured child, presumably once he realized he might face legal liability for the child's injury. One of the men followed my husband and daughter out to the car, physically threatening them. The manager apparently feels this was appropriate conduct. To be clear, this is precisely the OPPOSITE of a sympathetic response. Lastly, regarding that concrete step and the lack of safety: that step's still there. Young or unskilled skaters will still trip on it and will still injure themselves, potentially severely, when they hit their faces on a metal picnic table. If you have kids, opt for one of the other rinks in town with a nice, high wall around the sides. I repeat my review: this rink is patently unsafe. In light of the manager's reply, I'll add this: when your child is injured, the LAST response you want or expect is the kind of attack the manager left below. Do yourself and your family a favor and avoid this place entirely. There are plenty of other safer, kinder rinks in this city. read more

Went here for a school trip one time in the 5th grade I bought a soda and triped right after the cashier gave it to me. When I asked for a refill she told me I'd have to pay again. I didn't even get to drink it!! And another time I had fallen on the skate floor and I was bleeding. I asked the staff if they had bandaids, and the girl told me I'd be ok without one. I went back on the floor and I left trails of blood behind me. Then I was removed from the skate floor then given a bandaid when I asked again. I've gone more than once and every single time the staff disappoints me. Roller blading is fun but I don't think I would go here to roller blade. read more

They are underhanded. They rent pvc walkers for kids. When you rent them they make you put down a $10 deposit and say they will give $7 back when you return it. What they don't say is that it is $3 per hour and because it's a 1.5 hour session they will charge $6. The money isn't the issue it's the trickery. Come up with a price for the session and be up from about it. I get that it may be a tough business to make money but your going to go out of business if you keep pissing people off. read more

This is a super-simple place--a skating rink with small food area serving chicken strips, hot dogs, cotton candy etc. Cost-wise it's very expensive for what you get (there may be coupons or some other discount that regulars get). My younger kids didn't do very well at the school fundraising event we attended here. They both were more interested in the cotton candy than roller skating. Went here last week for a field trip with my school and pretty much everything was the same as it was 20 years ago. It brought back a lot of memories from the funky patterned carpet to the old arcade games and the snowscape mural on the wall. These other comments about the staff being inattentive and uncaring are untrue. One of our kids fell over and hurt her ankle and within 10 seconds there were two staff members with a leg brace and a bag of ice. Many of the skates' wheels were too loose which was why so many kids were falling over so one of the staff came onto the rink and tightened them all up. I should have asked him to help me out because I was falling over too, haha. They did a quick "four corners" game but they only did that once because all the kids just wanted to roll around. I remember when I was a kid they did games like "red light green light" every 20 minutes or so. The prize is still a free drink when you bring them the plastic cone. We should have done a better job of allocating the walkers because some of our kids didn't need them and were just goofing around. I'm not sure about the food policy because they say outside food and drink are not allowed but pizza was ordered for us from somewhere else. Maybe it was because we had a huge group or because we reserved the place for the morning. Anyway, we had a nice couple of hours skating before they had to prep for the afternoon crowd. read more

We had our daughters 4th birthday at Roller King. We brought themed decorations and when we got the the room nothing was out. Until I went and got it from staff and we put it out ourselves. Our girls have food allergies and I confirmed several times what I had paid for but order was wrong so while the other kids were eating pizza our girls had to wait. When their chicken meals came put they weren't even consistent on the number of chickens. The pizza was not what I expected from a restaurant and $15 for 1 topping. Yhe birthday shout out song. The didn't have her first choice. Her second choice they only played 30 seconds of the song. They were short staff so there were lines for everything. A group of friends and I went to the rink for a fun night together but that's not what we got. Just 10 minutes into our skate session an older man grabbed the waist of one of my friends. She thought he was just holding for balance and that the way he grabbed her he must have been one of her friends. But he was a complete stranger. When she reported the incident, the manager told her she would have to review the tapes, making my friend feel even worse. She even admitted that they've had issues with the same man before (yet they still let him in??). To make it all better the manager offered my friend "ANYTHING SHE WANTS FROM THE SNACK BAR" as if that makes harassment all better. Eventually it took three staff members to tell the man to leave. It is highly unlikely that i will return. Roller king is supposed to be a family friendly place but it's anything but that. stay woke roseville and avoid roller king!!! read more

I've been to Roller King quite a few times. It's your basic roller rink. Public skating can get crowded. Roller King is well organized. I really like that they have "walkers" for the kiddos. I also have noticed they have training skates for the kids. Everything is always clean and the staff is always friendly. I have witnessed a few times staff having to deal with difficult customers, and every time the staff member treats the customer with kindness, (even thought that customer is wrong) There was one time an adult was on the floor during public skate without skates on... That's not allowed (understandably) A staff member had to remind everyone over the speaker that in order to be on the floor you needed to have skates on. I mean, they had to get on the speaker multiple times, but every time they sounded so kind. Another time I was at the rink for a private party, a friend of mine had booked the entire rink for a birthday party.... Which by the was was AMAZING. Anyway, I was in the line and there was one lady ahead of me trying to argue with the manager. The lady had a couple kids and wanted them to skate, the manager explained that the rink had been rented out for a private party and that wouldn't be possible. The lady was so rude to the manager and the manager stayed calm and kindly explained that my friend had paid to rent the entire rink. I'm not sure how this lady didn't know there was no public skate at the time, the website has all the skating hours posted. I love Roller King, definetly my favorite place to skate. read more

I wasn't kidding when I said my friends had really gotten into roller skating. One of them joined a roller derby team and invited us to watch it here. For $7 we got admission to the game, followed by a roughly 1 hr 45 min free skating session that included skate rental. Not a bad deal. I admit I don't really understand the game of roller derby and wasn't paying a ton of attention. But the rink, while not fantastically modern, was definitely more current in appearance and vibe than any other rink I've been to in the area (yay, it's the 1980s, not the 1960s!). The wooden rink floor was nice, and the rental skates were the most comfortable ones I've tried yet. The music was a nice assortment of classics with zero ghetto rap to be found. Another big plus was their concession stand, which has more variety than most roller rink concessions. The flat bread sandwich was delicious! The session was super crowded, and I definitely ran into a lot of kids despite the fact that I wasn't going very fast. They did have a couple "fast skate" sessions that separated kids and adults who knew their stuff. The rest of the experience was cool enough that I didn't mind the occasional tripping. read more

Our simple little trek to the Roller Derby (fuk YEAH) turned out to be quite the adventure. We started said pilgrimage at around 3:30. It was supposed to be 3, but I was late picking everyone up. Anyways, it was then discovered that I forgot junk at home, so I had to go back. At around 4:14, we finally hot the Bay Bridge & we on our way! Fast forward past a hundred wrong turns, gas station coffee & the satellite radio breaking...we finally made it to Roseville....FOUR HOURS LATER!!! We arrived at the Roller Derby just in the nick of time. Upon walking into this place, it occurred to me that I had stepped back in time. The smells, the sights, the clientle - everything was exactly how I left it in the 80's - right down to the gnarly acrylic nailed ladies with their french manicures (made "punk rock" by tipping them black??!!). The Roller Derby was RAD & the rink was even more rad for hosting such an event. The only reason it did not get 5 stars from me was because it was in Roseville...bleck. read more

This is where we always went skating when I was a kid, so I have lots of happy memories of this place. However, a lot has changed. They used to have employees on the rink at all times to keep people skating in the right direction, stopping unsafe behavior, etc. Nowadays it's a free-for-all out there. Kids were cutting across the rink with those rolling skate aids and crashing into people. A group of teenage boys were speeding around the rink racing each other, and one guy (who I assume is a regular since I've seen him there before) was skating backwards and knocked a little girl down. Lots of people skating in the opposite direction. I just wish they would patrol the rink a little to keep it safe for the kids. The skates themselves are in ratty shape. It took my daughter 3 tries to get a pair that felt ok and didn't have wobbly wheels. At least all 3 stalls in the women's restroom have doors. Back in the old days, the 3rd stall didn't have a door on it for years, LOL. We had my daughter's birthday party here this year and had a good time. We will still come here to skate, but I wish they would step it up a little. read more

I took my daughter and about 10 friends to Roller King for her 12th birthday yesterday. The entire experience was outstanding. David welcomed us at the front window, taking the time to answer my questions, explaining how everything worked, and reviewing the charges with me. He was noticeably friendly and informative. The skates were all in good repair and the environment was clean. Throughout our 3+ hours there I was incredibly impressed by the attentiveness and professionalism of the staff. I wish I knew each of their names so that I could mention them all here. I do know that Scotty was our party's host. She was warm and and engaging with me and the kids. I spent some time skating with my younger daughter (8 years old). Several times we would sit out together while she rested or recovered from a hard fall or two. I was so impressed by the friendly young staff members who would stop by to check on us. Each of them showed genuine concern for my daughter both physically and emotionally. Twice they offered to bring ice (and promptly did) and several times they offered words of encouragement, sharing stories of how they learned to skate or the last time they took a fall. By the end of our time there, my 8 year old was skating around the rink solo--and I really have the staff to thank for that. Their encouragement and attentiveness made all the difference for her. Scotty was absolutely fantastic with the party group. The kids loved her and she was great at communicating with me throughout the afternoon. We had pizza, drinks, and ice cream from the rink and brought in doughnuts for the "cake." Contrary to other reviews I've read on here, we had absolutely no problems with the entire process. (Plus, the laser lights in the party room were awesome!) We happened to be there until closing time and it was interesting to watch the staff work together to clean up. They worked together as a team and it was very evident that they each take great pride in providing a clean, safe environment for families to enjoy the rink. Before getting there, I was nervous about the party (my wife was out of town so I was flying solo) but the staff really made it great. All in all it was a great experience and I would highly recommend Rollerking for your birthday party needs. Thinking back on the experience, one thing is clear - - Roller King is very well run. It looks to be an organization that has great leadership and a healthy professional culture/work environment where everyone individually takes pride in meeting common goals. From the management to the staff, I was incredibly impressed by the attentiveness, friendly nature, and professionalism I experienced. Great job. We will definitely be back. :) read more

This review rating is for Saturday morning lessons. This is a tough review. Depending on what time of day you go, it will totally change the environment. First, let me start off by saying I'm determined that out of all the sports to try, my child and I are going to get good at roller skating. It's one of the few physical activities that is indoors, doesn't require the participant to be in a team sport but you can still enjoy it with other people, and there's always fun music involved! However, not all times are good for beginners. I'm sure the reverse is true if your really good at it. But my experience has been it can be frustrating and dangerous being in the rink with some not so courteous skaters. I've been nearly crashed into by teenagers and young adults that treat it like a speed racing sport. Which brings me to the research I've done. I have meticulously studied the roller skating hours and times at two locations so that I could know when exactly is a good time to come visit with my 7 year old son. I can tell you the best, okay, and worst times to go. Let's start with the not so great and work our way up. Not for the faint hearted!- Time: Evenings (around 6 pm-on towards midnight) Place: The Rink. Why? A lot of teenagers enjoy their late evening specials. If you're just getting started, you will find its not the best time to start learning. Lots of people, and lots of speed skaters going by. I don't recommend it. Better, but still not feeling it!- Time: Afternoons (around 1-4 pm) Place: The Roller King. Why? Omg, this place gets so packed with birthday parties. Some reserve special rooms. Others just use the tables. For beginners, its a little better. But there's just not a lot of room to skate without feeling like you're going to run into someone else no matter how careful you are. It's a super popular time of day to be there. There isn't a lot of elbow room on or off the skating floor. It's really difficult finding a place to eat a snack or change your shoes that isn't occupied by a birthday party. We did our best, but I was exhausted by the time we left. Great, we found some lessons, but its not what I was expecting!- Time: Sat mornings. Location: The Rink. Why? Two different sections. Advanced and Beginner. The instructor for the beginner lessons looks like an old war time vet. He's not super friendly, and can be a bit intimidating in his approach. My son and I were just not feeling it. It was a lot less busy because only 8 yrs old and under or Adults only. But it felt a little too quiet. I was feeling out of place being there so early in the day. Now, we're talking! I'm ready to learn!- Time: Sat mornings Location: The Roller King Why? Super nice instructor. Three different sections. With even more possibility of advanced classes at 11:30 am. Yes, it's busy but still a lot less crowded than the afternoon pm sessions. You basically get two hours of fun with 30 min of instruction @ $8. It's a little more expensive compared to the Rink ($5 Sat morning Zoo), but the difference in quality of instruction is night and day. They play fun games throughout our lesson and during open session time. 9:30-11:30 am. It helps to not be so crowded because of its age limitations of 12 and under or Adults only. I'm loving it!!! We'll definitely be back again. Finally! I think we have a shot at learning some good skills and have some breathing room. For adults, if you're interested in learning the basics but don't want to be taking lessons with children there's another option. There's a beginners class offered at a different rink that is not listed as open to the public. You can try out to be on the Roller Derby team (or become a Ref eventually) after taking that course. You don't have to know anything to start. Check out Sac City Rollers website if that's sounds of interest to you. I've heard good things about that program. But since I'm planning on only skating with my kid I decided to go this route. read more

As a parent, I'm concerned with several things. Safety - The facility was in good repair. The skates were in good repair. The carpeted areas were reasonably padded. Bullies - I did not see any issue with bigger kids bullying little kids. To the contrary, I saw several cases of older kids or more advanced skaters, offering to help the inexperienced. Cleanliness - The facility was clean. The food preparation area was clean (prices were reasonable). There were waste cans around. The carpet was picked up. Parking - Easy parking, private lot. Staff - the staff was friendly and service was prompt. My daughter can now skate well enough to enjoy the activity. We'll be back next weekend to enjoy skating at Roller King. read more

I came here recently with a group of 8 of us adults. The rink is kept up, it's got that retro vibe, and the music was pretty good (they even played some older hits - Michael Jackson & Chaka Khan). **I went to another skate rink in Sac a couple years back and all they would play is christian music, it took me a while to realize that we didn't recognize any songs. So thank you Roller King for playing music for all age groups to appreciate. I really appreciate places like this giving kids and adults an escape for a few hours since all the great old school establishments have slowly disappeared over time. Great rink, good music, and good mix of kids and adults. I spotted some adults making their way around who could still pull out all the moves- backwards skating, side crab, and just plain boogie-ing down on their skates. This is a great place to blow off steam and have active fun with your friends. On a Saturday afternoon (1-4PM), there's mostly kids and some adults, not a bunch of rowdy teenagers or hoodsters- just good fun. Get off your butts, get active and check out Roller King! read more

Roller King in Roseville is a town classic and must-do. This place hasn't changed a bit from when I was kid and I love it all the same. I love coming to watch Sacred or just to bring my kids for a few hours of skate time. I took away one star for the skates. After our trip this past Wednesday, I noticed how run down the skates are becoming. The smell coming from the pairs my son's had were horrible. If they had their own skates we would bring them. Games are always fun to play. As a kid I never won any of them so as an adult I tried my wheels at red light, green light. When I won it felt like cheating hahaha...my rug burn on my knee from a quick stop was myu punishment I guess. read more

I've just been recently contacted by Roller King management with an effort to make things right. I guess there was a misunderstanding about my previous post regarding the extra $2 spectator charge. It was explained to me that it was Stoneridge Elementary School that wanted to add that extra fee on top of the regular admission fee for the skaters. Let me clarify this, Roller King does NOT charge $2 for spectator fee. If you're not skating, you DO NOT pay! (my apologies for assuming that RK was the one implementing those charges) The issue about the staff not wanting to give my daughter some "ice" for her injury has also been explained to me. The management thinks that the clerk that helped (or should I say "did not help") my daughter that time was probably new & didn't know any better. I was assured by the management that their staff is always willing to help specially any injury related matter. The manager made things right for us & was assured that this issue will be brought out to their next meeting & will be addressed to assure that it doesn't happen again. I will be reviewing RK again after our next couple of trips & I am hoping to bring my ratings to 5 star... read more

I held a party here for my 2 girls- I didn't do it through their conventional party option, I did it as a group. I rented a room and ordered pizzas and soda on my own. It was a great price and the kids (and grown ups) had a blast. The staff was super helpful and they were on it! They were always emptying garbage cans, etc- They also gave a us a free song dedication for the girls' birthdays so that was cute. * if you want to bring in your own cupcakes/cake you have to rent a room or do the bday party option because no outside food/drinks are allowed. read more
